Nitrification of simulated secondary effluent solution using a variant of the vertical flow bed constructed wetland was studied. In this system oxygen required for the nitrification process is supplied by a passive air pump. The passive air pump is based on a fill and draw cycle, where oxygen depleted air is removed from the system while fresh air is introduced. Each volume of effluent drained is displaced by an equal volume of fresh air. Spatial and temporal oxygen distribution in the system as a function of drained effluent volume was investigated. Experimental results of nitrification and the corresponding oxygen consumption show good agreement with theoretical calculations based on physico–chemical considerations. Observations show that while oxygen distribution within the media was found to be non-uniform at the beginning of each cycle, it approached more uniform distribution with time. The latter resulted mainly from diffusion of oxygen in the gaseous phase.  相似文献

We set out to estimate the value of ultrasonographic parameters as prognostic indicators of implantation following in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and embryo transfer. Our survey included 414 natural cycles, 3558 cycles following ovarian stimulation for IVF and embryo transfer, and 411 cycles with hormone replacement therapy for oocyte donation, reviewing 27 reports identified in a computerized literature research. The ultrasonographic prognostic indicators for implantation evaluated included peri-ovulatory endometrial thickness and pattern and Doppler measurements of uterine artery blood flow. Topics include: definitions of the ultrasonographic parameters proposed to evaluate uterine receptivity; the clinical context in which they were used; the proposed optimal timing for sonographic evaluation; and, finally, their actual correlation with pregnancy rate following assisted reproductive technologies. For various sonographic parameters, negative predictive value, positive predictive value, sensitivity and specificity were calculated, based on published data. Sonographic parameters had a high negative predictive value and sensitivity, but a limited positive predictive value and low specificity. Several confounding factors may influence the interpretation of reports, and the statistical evaluation sometimes lacks calculation of the positive and negative predictive values of the parameters examined. Although ultrasonographic parameters of endometrial receptivity have a strong negative value in setting some minimum criteria, their value as prognostic indicators for implantation following embryo transfer has yet to be proved.  相似文献

A measurement of the effectiveness of the material management process is needed in order to analyze problems, suggest solutions, and assess the impact of modifications to the process. Such measurement is also required for any benchmarking effort. Research was conducted to apply a set of key effectiveness measures on 17 ongoing industrial projects. This research showed that most of the measures were easily obtainable, but some were difficult to obtain. Research also showed that it was possible to obtain the highest score on all measures, indicating that best practice in industry is achieving highly successful results. Most of the projects appeared to have a highly effective materials management process, as indicated by the fact that median values of these measures were much closer to the best values than those of the mean values. A utilization plan for the measurement of the effectiveness of the material management process is presented.  相似文献

Studies were carried out to investigate the role of 1,25(OH)2D3 in the skeletal resistance to the calcemic action of parathyroid hormone. The change in serum calcium after the intravenous infusion of 2 U of parathyroid extract (PTE)/kg body wt/hr for eight hours was evaluated in thyroparathyroidectomized (T-PTX) dogs before, and one, two and three days after, induction of uremia by bilateral ureteral ligation (11 dogs) or by bilateral nephrectomy (8 dogs). In another six nephrectomized and T-PTX dogs, 0.68 ug of 1, 25 (OH)2D3/day was given on the day of nephrectomy and for two days thereafter. Serum creatinine in each day of the study was not different among the three groups. The study also included the evaluation of the effect of sham operation (five dogs) and the administration of 1,25 (OH)2D3 to dogs with normal renal function (four dogs) on the calcemic response to PTE, as well as the reproducibility of such a response in the same animal. The results showed that 1) the calcemic response to PTE was markedly impaired after one day of bilateral ureteral ligation or nephrectomy, but the impairment was more severe after nephrectomy; 2) the calcemic response to PTE after two or three days of bilateral ureteral ligation was similar to that seen at one day after nephrectomy; 3) 1, 25 (OH)2D3 partially restored the calcemic response to PTE in the nephrectomized animals to levels similar to those seen after one day of bilateral ureteral ligation; 4) sham operation did not affect the response to PTE, and repeated infusion of PTE produced similar changes in the concentrations of serum calcium. The data indicate that (a) a deficiency of 1,25 (OH)2D3 is at least partly responsible for the skeletal resistance to the calcemic action of PTH in uremia; (b) uremia, per se, may also contribute to this phenomenon; and (c) the kidney after one day of complete bilateral ureteral ligation may still produce 1,25 (OH)2D3, but this ability is compromised after two days of ureteral obstruction.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a distributed symbolic algorithm for model checking of propositional μ-calculus formulas. μ-calculus is a powerful formalism and μ-calculus model checking can solve many problems, including, for example, verification of (fair) CTL and LTL properties. Previous works on distributed symbolic model checking were restricted to reachability analysis and safety properties. This work thus significantly extends the scope of properties that can be verified distributively, enabling us to use them for very large designs.The algorithm distributively evaluates subformulas. It results in sets of states which are evenly distributed among the processes. We show that this algorithm is scalable and therefore can be implemented on huge distributed clusters of computing nodes. The memory modules of the computing nodes collaborate to create a very large memory space, thus enabling the checking of much larger designs. We formally prove the correctness of the parallel algorithm. Supported nickel catalysts of composition Ni/Y2O3–ZrO2 were synthesized in one step by the polymerization method and compared with a nickel catalyst prepared by wet impregnation. Stronger interactions were observed in the formed catalysts between NiO species and the oxygen vacancies of the Y2O3–ZrO2 in the catalysts made by polymerization, and these were attributed to less agglomeration of the NiO during the synthesis of the catalysts in one step. The dry reforming of ethanol was catalyzed with a maximum CO2 conversion of 61% on the 5NiYZ catalyst at 800 °C, representing a better response than for the catalyst of the same composition prepared by wet impregnation.  相似文献

Wastewater treatment consists of three or four sequential stages: preliminary, primary, secondary, and tertiary. Each stage can comprise multiple alternative technologies that can perform the same tasks with different efficiencies, operating times, and costs. Thus, we propose a systematic approach for designing wastewater treatment networks by utilizing principles of mathematical modeling and generating an exhaustive enumeration of all the possible technologies and their connections during the early stages of designing a treatment facility. Some of these structures are nonintuitive and include recycling, reprocessing, bypasses, and multiple technologies in parallel or series to remove the same contaminant. The nonintuitive structures with multiple technologies may provide a measure of resilience compared to typical heuristic designs. Thus, the combination of P-graph methodology and the sequence of treatment technologies predicted via the optimization algorithm from the maximal structure is based on holistic considerations and does not lead to suboptimal solutions.  相似文献

Replacement of the damaged scar tissue created by a myocardial infarction is the goal of cardiac tissue engineering. However, once the implanted tissue is in place, monitoring its function is difficult and involves indirect methods, while intervention necessarily requires an invasive procedure and available medical attention. To overcome this, methods of integrating electronic components into engineered tissues have been recently presented. These allow for remote monitoring of tissue function as well as intervention through stimulation and controlled drug release. Here, an improved hybrid microelectronic tissue construct capable of withstanding the dynamic environment of the beating heart without compromising electronic or mechanical functionality is reported. While the reported system is enabled to sense the function of the engineered tissue and provide stimulation for pacing, an electroactive polymer on the electronics enables it to release multiple drugs in parallel. It is envisioned that the integration of microelectronic devices into engineered tissues will provide a better way to monitor patient health from afar, as well as provide facile, more exact methods to control the healing process.  相似文献

This study aimed to develop a new method for detoxification of milk from aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) by using Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG biofilm. After inoculation of milk contaminated with AFM1 into L. rhamnosus GG biofilm, the unbound AFM1 was extracted and quantified by HPLC. The stability of the formed AFM1/biofilm complex using different AFM1 contamination levels of milk was also studied. We found that the percentages of bound AFM1 by L. rhamnosus GG biofilm reached up to 60.74%. While no significant difference in milk proteins content was observed after AFM1 binding, some changes in total dry matter and fat content were noticed.  相似文献

Here, we have systematically investigated how the nature of the support influenced the oxygen mobility and activities in catalysts comprised of AgPt nanoshells deposited over inorganic oxides. We first synthesized AgPt nanoshells by galvanic replacement reaction between Ag nanospheres and PtCl6 2? (aq) combined with Pt reduction using hydroquinone as an auxiliary reducing agent. The nanoshells were then supported over TiO2, Al2O3 and CeO2. Through this methodology, we prepared materials with similar metallic nanoparticle AgPt compositions (~0.99 wt% Pt), sizes (43 ± 2 nm diameter), spherical shapes, surface morphologies, number of active sites \( (\sim4.5\;\upmu{\text{mol}}\;{\text{g}}_{{{\text{cat}} .}}^{ - 1} ) \) and uniform distribution over the supports, differing only in terms of the nature of the support. The oxide reduction temperature, its capability of re-oxidation and the presence of oxygen mobility were strongly dependent on the metal–support interaction between AgPt nanoshells and oxide supports. These properties have significantly influenced their catalytic performances toward the CO oxidation. At 230 °C, the CO oxidation TOF was 40.4 ± 0.4, 6.9 ± 1, 1.4 ± 0.8 min?1 for AgPt/CeO2, AgPt/TiO2, AgPt/Al2O3, respectively. These differences were attributed to the concentration of oxygen vacancies in each catalyst, which presented exactly the same trend as that of the catalytic activities. Our results may have important contributions to the design of highly active metal oxide-based catalysts toward gas-phase oxidation transformations.  相似文献
