The high-peaked BL Lac object Pks2155-304 shows high variability at multiwavelengths, i.e. from optical up to TeV energies. A giant flare of around 1 h at X-ray and TeV energies was observed in 2006 [1]. In this context, it is essential to understand the physical processes in terms of the primary spectrum and the radiation emitted, since high-energy emission can arise in both leptonic and hadronic processes. In this contribution, we investigate the possibility of neutrino production in photo-hadronic interactions. In particular, we predict a direct correlation between optical and TeV energies at sufficiently high optical radiation fields. We show that in the blazar Pks2155-304, the optical emission in the low-state is sufficient to lead to photo-hadronic interactions and therefore to the production of high-energy photons.  相似文献

Cocaine lowers brain reward thresholds, reflecting increased brain reward function. The authors investigated whether, similar to acute cocaine administration, cocaine-predictive conditioned stimuli would lower intracranial self-stimulation (ICSS) thresholds. Rats received a saline injection for 5 days, a cocaine injection (10 mg/kg) for 20 consecutive days, then saline for 5 additional days. Thresholds were measured immediately before and 10 min after each injection. The initial 5 saline injections had no effect on thresholds, whereas cocaine significantly lowered thresholds for 20 days. There was no tolerance or sensitization to this effect of cocaine over days. During the last 5 days when cocaine administration was substituted with saline, rats demonstrated a conditioned lowering of thresholds during the 2nd daily ICSS session. These data demonstrate that cocaine-predictive conditioned stimuli induce a conditioned facilitation of brain reward function. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

The apolipoprotein E receptor 2 (ApoER2), expressed predominantly in forebrain regions including the hippocampus, is 1 of 2 receptors for the extracellular matrix protein reelin, which is critical for cortical development. Previous studies of ApoER2 mutant mice have indicated deficits in synaptic plasticity and learning. The current authors assessed learning and memory of ApoER2 knockout and wild-type mice on the Barnes circular maze. Mice were trained in this task for 22 days, followed by memory recall and reversal tests. ApoER2 knockout mice were initially slower to complete the task, but by Day 22 they were more accurate than wild-type mice on several indices. There were no differences in memory assessed by the recall task, but ApoER2 knockout mice performed significantly worse on the memory reversal task. ApoER2 knockout mice also displayed altered use of specific search strategies and relationship of these strategies to errors made on the maze. The surface tension of protein isolates from common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) and scarlet runner bean (Phaseolus coccineus L.), prepared by isoelectric precipitation and ultrafiltration was evaluated, with respect to protein concentration (0.001–0.1% w/v) and pH (pH 4.5, 5.5, 7.0 and 8.0). Surface tension was most reduced, and with a higher rate of reduction at higher protein concentration and at pH 8.0. Foams (1, 2% w/v protein), at the same pH values, with and without the addition of polysaccharides, were studied. The proteins’ foaming behaviour was related to their adsorption behaviour. Arabic gum, locust bean gum (0.1% and 0.25% w/v), xanthan gum and a xanthan/locust bean gum mixture (0.1% w/v) had a positive effect on foam creation. All polysaccharides increased foam stability, probably due to the viscosity increase and to the creation of a network, which prevents the air droplets from coalescence. Isolates from P. coccineus and isolates obtained by ultrafiltration seemed to exhibit better foaming properties.  相似文献

Cereal β-glucan concentrates can be used in gluten-free breads to improve dough handling properties and quality of final products as well as to enhance their nutritional value; however, the presence of endogenous β-glucanases in rice flour, in combination with prolonged mixing, fermentation, and proofing time, can cause a substantial reduction in β-glucan molecular weight, affecting detrimentally their efficacy for bioactivity. In this study, microwave (MIWA) heating was applied to the rice flours before breadmaking at different flour water contents (13–25%) and treatment times (0-4 min) to reduce β-glucanase activity. Gluten-free breads made from the MIWA-treated rice flours were fortified with oat β-glucan concentrate to enhance their nutritional profile. The molecular weight of added β-glucan in the final products increased with increasing both flour water content and time of MIWA treatment, reflecting the magnitude of residual β-glucanase activity in the flour. Pretreatment with MIWA radiation for 4 min of the rice flour tempered at 25% moisture resulted in negligible residual β-glucanase activity and preserved to a great extent the molecular weight of β-glucans in the enriched breads. End-product quality was not affected by flour MIWA pretreatment, and even a slightly higher loaf specific volume was noted for breads made from the MIWA-treated flours (4 min MIWA at 25% moisture content) compared to that of untreated flour. These findings can contribute to the improvement of nutritional value of rice-based gluten-free breads for celiac consumers as well as of any β-glucan-containing yeast-leavened bakery product without altering its sensorial attributes. Additional studies are still required for further evaluation of the effect of more intense microwave treatment on rice flour and its application on breadmaking.  相似文献

This article presents a panhellenic social survey regarding environmental subjects in Greece. It is a well-known fact that Greece is suffering from an economic crisis among other European Union countries. This crisis coincides with the time that Greece is supposed to take measures for Environmental Protection that should aim both at Energy Saving and at energy production from Renewable Sources. The specific research presented here investigates how people's attitudes and views towards the environmental subjects and the use of renewable energy sources are affected by the economic crisis, and a rather dystopian future. Also, we investigated how serious are the environmental issues considered to be when people feel that their everyday way of life is threatened. This is researched through analysing the data gathered through questionnaires for the survey.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to estimate the radiation exposure of children, during cardiac catheterisations for the diagnosis or treatment of congenital heart disease. Radiation doses were estimated for 45 children aged from 1 d to 13 y old. Thermoluminescent dosemeters (TLDs) were used to estimate the posterior entrance dose (DP), the lateral entrance dose (DLAT), the thyroid dose and the gonads dose. A dose-area product (DAP) meter was also attached externally to the tube of the angiographic system and gave a direct value in mGy cm2 for each procedure. Posterior and lateral entrance dose values during cardiac catheterisations ranged from 1 to 197 mGy and from 1.1 to 250.3 mGy, respectively. Radiation exposure to the thyroid and the gonads ranged from 0.3 to 8.4 mGy to 0.1 and 0.7 mGy, respectively. Finally, the DAP meter values ranged between 360 and 33,200 mGy cm2. Radiation doses measured in this study are comparable with those reported to previous studies. Moreover, strong correlation was found between the DAP values and the entrance radiation dose measured with TLDs.  相似文献

A 37‐year‐old hemodialysis patient appeared with unusual somnolence during 2 successive hemodialysis sessions. Blood gas analysis revealed hypercapnic respiratory failure and spirometry restrictive lung disease. After exclusion of other causes of restrictive lung disease with chest CT‐scan and cerebrum MRI, electrophysiological study revealed myopathy. Because besides lordosis and limb‐girdle gait the patient was ambulant the possibility of late‐onset Pompe's disease was set and confirmed with evaluation of α‐glucosidase activity and genetic analysis. Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with aglucosidase alfa was started. Due to inaccessibility of veins in the arm without the arteriovenous fistula, during the last 1 year, the patient received the ERT through the venous line of the hemodialysis circuit. Three years later the patient remains ambulant without the need of any assistant device and preserved his pulmonary function. This is the first described case of late‐onset Pompe's disease in a hemodialysis patient treated with ERT.  相似文献

Water‐soluble galactomannans were isolated from the seeds of 12 carob tree populations grown in different regions of southern Greece. Their structures, molecular weight distributions and rheological properties were examined. The intrinsic viscosity values and estimated average molecular weights varied in the ranges 8.15–13.02 dl g−1 and (2.3–3.9) × 106 respectively. Molecular sieve chromatography showed large variations in the molecular size distributions. The Manp/Galp ratio varied between 3.08 and 3.82, as determined by GC analysis of the alditol acetate derivatives of the monomeric constituents. There were also differences in the relative distribution of the free (Manp‐Manp), monosubstituted (Manp‐Manp(Galp)) and disubstituted (Manp(Galp)‐Manp(Galp)) dyads of β‐(1→4)‐mannose, as revealed by 13C NMR spectroscopy of the native polysaccharides. The pseudoplastic behaviour of galactomannan solutions (10–20 g l−1) was confirmed by steady shear and dynamic rheological tests. Aqueous galactomannan (5 g l−1)–xanthan gum (5 g l−1) mixed systems gave gels on cooling (G′ ≫ G″). Galactomannans with high limiting viscosities, high Manp/Galp ratios and a low proportion of the Manp(Galp)‐Manp(Galp) dyad yielded the strongest mixed gel network structures with xanthan, implying that interchain associations between the two polymers occur via the unsubstituted segments (‘smooth regions’) of the carob galactomannan chains. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
