A Nom historical document recognition system is being developed for digital archiving that uses image binarization, character segmentation, and character recognition. It incorporates two versions of off-line character recognition: one for automatic recognition of scanned and segmented character patterns (7660 categories) and the other for user handwritten input (32,695 categories). This separation is used since including less frequently appearing categories in automatic recognition increases the misrecognition rate without reliable statistics on the Nom language. Moreover, a user must be able to check the results and identify the correct categories from an extended set of categories, and a user can input characters by hand. Both versions use the same recognition method, but they are trained using different sets of training patterns. Recursive XY cut and Voronoi diagrams are used for segmentation; kd tree and generalized learning vector quantization are used for coarse classification; and the modified quadratic discriminant function is used for fine classification. The system provides an interface through which a user can check the results, change binarization methods, rectify segmentation, and input correct character categories by hand. Evaluation done using a limited number of Nom historical documents after providing ground truths for them showed that the two stages of recognition along with user checking and correction improved the recognition results significantly.  相似文献

We present a method to control the phase of an optical lattice according to an external trigger signal. The method has a latency of less than 30 μs. Two phase locked digital synthesizers provide the driving signal for two acousto-optic modulators which control the frequency and phase of the counter-propagating beams which form a standing wave (optical lattice). A micro-controller with an external interrupt function is connected to the desired external signal, and updates the phase register of one of the synthesizers when the external signal changes. The standing wave (period λ/2 = 390 nm) can be moved by units of 49 nm with a mean jitter of 28 nm. The phase change is well known due to the digital nature of the synthesizer, and does not need calibration. The uses of the scheme include coherent control of atomic matter-wave dynamics.  相似文献

In this study, we propose a revised radial basis function (RBF) neural network algorithm and apply this algorithm to computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) of the liver. First, the revised RBF neural network algorithm is applied to recognition of the liver regions, and the recognition results are compared with those obtained using the conventional RBF neural network and the conventional multilayered neural network trained using the back-propagation algorithm. It is shown that the revised RBF neural network is accurate, and is a useful method because the parameters are automatically determined. Then, the revised RBF neural network is applied to CAD of the liver cancer called hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).  相似文献

We have cooled a3He-4He dilute solution down to 97 K, which is the lowest temperature ever been achieved in a dilute mixture. However, there is no sign of the superfluid transition of3He quasiparticles in the solution. In the sub-millikelvin region, we have measured the thermal boundary resistance between the solutions and sintered metal powder as a function of temperature T. We find that the thermal boundary resistence is proportional to T–2 below 1 mK and that the resistance shows a strong dependence on magnetic fields below 0.1 T. These results suggest that the magnetic coupling is dominant in this temperature region. We have also estimated the heat leak into the dilute solution. It is found that the heat leak is proportional to the power of one third of inverse time, and the main source of the heat leak is ascribed to the viscous movement of3He quasiparticles.  相似文献

A unidirectional solidification method was investigated to manufacture Al2O3/YAG eutectic composites with high-temperature resistance that would make them usable at very high temperatures. We were successful in manufacturing a single-crystal Al2O3/single-crystal YAG eutectic composite with a dimension of 40 mm in diameter and 70 mm in length containing no colonies or pores. This composite also displayed excellent high-temperature strength characteristics. The flexural strength was in the range 350400 MPa from room temperature up to 2073 K (just below its melting point of about 2100 K) with no apparent temperature dependence. During tensile tests above 1923 K, the eutectic composite showed evidence of plastic deformation occurring by dislocation motion, and a yield phenomenon similar to many metals was observed. In addition, the microstructure of the composite was extremely stable: after 1000 h of heat treatment at 1973 K in an air atmosphere there was no growth. The above superior high-temperature characteristics are caused by such factors as the eutectic composite having a single-crystal Al2O3/single-crystal YAG structure, the formation of a compatible interface with no amorphous phase and thermal stability, and the combined effect of a YAG phase with superior high-temperature characteristics. © 1998 Chapman & Hall  相似文献

We have developed a technique for the anisotropic extension of fragile molecular crystals. The pressure medium and the instrument, which extends the pressure medium, are both made from epoxy resin. Since the thermal contraction of our instrument is identical to that of the pressure medium, the strain applied to the pressure medium has no temperature dependence down to 2 K. Therefore, the degree of extension applied to the single crystal at low temperatures is uniquely determined from the degree of extension in the pressure medium and thermal contractions of the epoxy resin and the single crystal at ambient pressure. Using this novel instrument, we have measured the temperature dependence of the electrical resistance of metallic, superconducting, and insulating materials. The experimental results are discussed from the viewpoint of the extension (compression) of the lattice constants along the parallel (perpendicular) direction.  相似文献

This paper describes a model-based investigation of inspection standards being developed as a recommended practice for eddy current (EC) NDT of aerospace structures for surface cracks. Compared to experimental investigations that can be laborious and expensive, model-based approach provides cost-effective and quantitative verifications of the recommended practice that covers wide ranges of materials, probes, instruments, frequencies, and test conditions. Probe signals for a number of specified standard notches are predicted and the expected amplitudes and phase-angle ranges are determined for various test conditions, in order to examine the influence of material electrical conductivity, frequency, and probe types. For a few selected situations, the model predictions are validated against experimental data. This study verifies the adequacies of the recommended specifications, especially of the reference notch selections and their response amplitudes for various test conditions, as well as confirming the suitability of using vertical amplitude alone for all the test situations. The influence of probe cable and the issue of three-point calibration are also discussed specifically in this investigation.  相似文献

Safety demonstration tests using the High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) will be conducted for the purpose of demonstrating inherent safety features of High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors (HTGRs) as well as providing the core and plant transient data for validation of HTGR safety analysis codes. The first phase safety demonstration test items include the reactivity insertion test and the coolant flow reduction test. In the reactivity insertion test, which is the control rod withdrawal test, one pair out of 16 pairs of control rods is withdrawn, simulating a reactivity insertion event. The coolant flow reduction test consists of the partial loss of coolant flow test and the gas circulators trip test. In the partial loss of coolant flow test, primary coolant flow rate is slightly reduced by control system. In the gas circulators trip test one and two out of three gas circulators are run down, simulating coolant flow reduction events. The gas circulators trip tests, in which position of control rods are kept unchanged, are simulation tests of anticipated transients without scram (ATWS).  相似文献

Car navigation systems play a prominent role in road traffic safety and traffic regulation. However, it is necessary to improve the route guidance of car navigation systems so that they accurately and quickly recognize small differences in location. Thus, to increase the ease of understanding and safety of car navigation systems, navigation systems based on augmented reality have been proposed for providing guidance at road intersections. We are currently developing a car navigation system based on augmented reality, called AR‐Navi. We investigated designs for the display of road intersection guidance that can be easily understood even when limited information is available and proposed a “best shot” display method that does not use moving images. In addition, we implemented a prototype system that includes these methods and conducted driving experiments on public roads to evaluate the ease of understanding and safety of AR‐Navi. Using the evaluation results, we confirmed that the ease of understanding and safety is similar in the case of AR‐Navi and CG‐Navi.
