Perchlorate is known to be a minor component of the hyperarid Atacama Desert salts, and its origin has long been a subject of speculation. Here we report the first measurement of the triple-oxygen isotope ratios (18O/16O and 17O/16O) for both man-made perchlorate from commercial sources and natural perchlorate extracted from Atacama soils. We found that the delta 18O values (i.e., normalized 18O/ 16O ratios) of man-made perchlorate were at -18.4+/-1.2%, whereas natural perchlorate has a variable delta 18O value, ranging from -4.5% to -24.8%. The delta 18O and delta 17O values followed the bulk Earth's oxygen isotope fractionation line for man-made perchlorate, but all Atacama perchlorates deviated from this line, with a distinctly large and positive 170 anomaly ranging from +4.2% to +9.6%. These findings provide a tool for the identification and forensics of perchlorate contamination in the environment. Additionally, they confirm an early speculation that the oxidation of volatile chlorine by 03 and the formation of HClO4 can be a sink (albeit a minor one) for atmospheric chlorine. 相似文献

Automobile catalyst emissions have resulted in the occurrence of elevated Pt, Pd, and Rh concentration in the urban and roadside environment. We investigate the chronology of platinum group elements (PGE) accumulation in dated sediments from an urban lake near Boston, MA. Chronological profiles demonstrate that Pt, Pd, and Rh concentrations increased following the introduction in catalysts with accumulation rates 6-16 times larger in 1992-2002 than prior to the introduction of catalysts. Ratios of these elements closely match their ratios in catalysts, providing further evidence of an automobile source. Iridium and Ru accumulation in sediments also increased following the introduction of catalysts, and while past Os contamination is associated with leather tanning, recent changes in the isotopic composition of Os indicate another anthropogenic source for this element. The PGE have similar geochemical properties and are difficult to separate from one another, and therefore, we suggest that automobile catalyst emissions also result in increasing environmental concentrations of Ir, Ru, and Os, which occur as impurities in catalysts. An automobile catalyst source of Ir and Os is supported by elevated concentrations of these elements in a tunnel dust sample. 相似文献

Pressure processing of foodstuff has been applied to produce or modify proteinaceous gel structures. In real pressure processing the treatment is non-isothermal, due to the adiabatic nature of the process and the heat loss from the product to the vessel. In order to estimate the effect of pressurization on milk constituents pressure and temperature dependent kinetics were determined separately from each other. In a detailed kinetic study whey protein isolate was treated under isobaric (200 to 800 MPa) and isothermal conditions (-2 to 70 degrees C), and the resulting degree of denaturation of beta-lactoglobulin A and B and alpha-lactalbumin was analysed. Kinetic parameters of denaturation were estimated using a one step non-linear regression method which allowed a global fit of the whole data set. The isobaric isothermal denaturation of beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactalbumin was found to follow third and second order kinetics, respectively. Isothermal pressure denaturation of both beta-lactoglobulin fractions do not differ significantly and were characterized by an activation volume decreasing with increasing temperature from -10 to about -30 ml mol(-1), which demonstrates that the denaturation rate is accelerated with increasing temperature. The activation energy of about 70 to 100 kJ mol(-1) obtained for beta-lactoglobulin A and B is not dependent to a great extent on the pressure which indicates that above 200 MPa denaturation rate is limited by the aggregation rate while pressure forces unfolding of the molecule. 相似文献

The fate of ivermectin (IVM) residues was studied throughout the processing of daily bulk milk from 30 ewes (taken up to 33 d following subcutaneous administration of 0.2 mg IVM/kg b.w.) in the following milk products: yoghurt made from raw and pasteurized milk; cheese after pressing; 30- and 60-day ripened cheese; and whey, secondary whey and whey proteins obtained after cheese-making (albumin cheese). The concentration of the H2B1a component of IVM was analysed in these dairy products using an HPLC method with fluorescence detection. The mean recovery of the method was, depending on the matrix, between 87 and 100%. Limits of detection in the order of only 0.1 microg H2B1a/kg of product were achieved. Maximum concentrations of IVM were detected mostly at 2 d after drug administration to the ewes. The highest concentration of IVM was found on day 2 in 60-day ripened cheese (96 microg H2B1a/kg cheese). Secondary whey was the matrix with the lowest concentration of IVM (<0.6 microg H2B1a/ kg). Residue levels fell below the limits of detection between day 5 (for secondary whey) and day 25 (for all cheese samples). In the matrices investigated, linear correlations between daily concentrations of IVM, milk fat and solid content were evident. During yoghurt production, fermentation and thermal stability of IVM was observed. During cheese production, approximately 35% of the IVM, present in the raw (bulk) milk samples, was lost. From the results it was concluded that the processing of ewes' milk did not eliminate the drug residues under investigation. The consequences of IVM in the human diet were discussed. Milk from treated animals should be excluded from production of fat products like cheese for longer after treatment with IVM than for lower fat products. 相似文献

Effects of including silage in the diet on volatile compound profiles and their modification during ripening of Montasio cheeses were examined. Twelve farms were selected and grouped according the type of forage in the ration: hay-based diets (four farms); hay and corn silage-based diets (four farms); and diets based on hay, corn silage and grass silages (four farms). For cheesemaking, 1000 kg of milk collected from two consecutive milkings was sampled from each farm and processed in the same cheese factory. Cheeses were ripened in the same cellar, in controlled humidity (78-85% relative humidity) and temperature (9-12 degrees C), until analysis. After 68 (62-74), 200 (194-206) and 360 (354-366) d of ripening, a cheese from each batch was analysed for moisture, protein and fat, volatile fatty acids (VFA) and volatile compounds. These latter were analysed by dynamic reverse carrier gas headspace gas chromatographic mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique, scanning from m/z 29 to m/z 300 at 0.5 s cycle time. Total and individual VFA contents of cheeses did not differ between the different dietary treatments and increased linearly (P<0.01) during ripening, indicating that there were no appreciable defects of fermentation. Sixty-two volatile compounds were identified in the cheese samples: 12 aldehydes, 9 ketones, 16 alcohols, 17 esters, 2 hydrocarbons, 4 sulphur-containing compounds and 2 terpenes. Diet significantly affected the amount of total alcohols, ethanol, isobutanol, 1-penten-3-ol, 2-methyl-1-butanol and the sum of all the volatile compounds. Significant variations of 33 volatile compounds (9 aldehydes, 4 ketones, 6 alcohols, 10 esters, 1 hydrocarbons, 2 sulphur containing compounds, and 1 terpene) were observed during ripening. These results suggest that the influence of diet composition on volatile compounds of matured cheeses are related more to effects on microbial and chemical fermentations in cheese during ripening rather than to a direct transfer of molecules from milk. 相似文献

DGAT1 polymorphism in Bos indicus and Bos taurus cattle breeds 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
As a result of multiple QTL-mapping projects in recent years, a quantitative trait locus for milk fat percentage and milk yield has been described on BTA14. Recent reports name the acyl-CoA : diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT1) gene on BTA14 as a potential candidate gene, with a nonconservative substitution of lysine by alanine (K232A) producing a major effect on milk composition and yield. DGAT1K appears to be the ancestral allele and the K232A substitution probably occurred after the divergence of the Bos indicus and Bos taurus lineages. These findings prompted us to genotype 1748 DNA samples of 38 different Bos taurus and Bos indicus cattle breeds from 13 countries on five continents (Europe, Africa, Asia, North America and South America), to examine the occurrence of the DGAT1 polymorphism and characterize the K232A substitution in cattle breeds of different origins and selected for different purposes (e.g., beef, dairy and dual purpose). Calculating pairwise FST values for pooled subpopulations showed least divergence for Bos indicus breeds with high milk fat percentage. Fixation of DGAT1A was found in some Bos taurus breeds and fixation of DGAT1K in one Bos indicus breed. Breeds of no known organized breeding background from the Near East domestication centre of Bos taurus and taurine African N'Dama cattle were found to possess intermediate frequencies of DGAT1K. While beef breeds tended to harbour higher DGAT1A levels, dairy cattle showed everything from very low levels of DGAT1K to unexpectedly high frequencies of this allele. 相似文献

A brain-computer interface (BCI) is a system that should in its ultimate form translate a subject's intent into a technical control signal without resorting to the classical neuromuscular communication channels. By using that signal to, e.g., control a wheelchair or a neuroprosthesis, a BCI could become a valuable tool for paralyzed patients. One approach to implement a BCI is to let users learn to self-control the amplitude of some of their brain rhythms as extracted from multichannel electroencephalogram. We present a method that estimates subject-specific spatial filters which allow for a robust extraction of the rhythm modulations. The effectiveness of the method was proved by achieving the minimum prediction error on data set IIa in the BCI Competition 2003, which consisted of data from three subjects recorded in ten sessions. 相似文献

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a technique that computes the cross-sectional impedance distribution within the body by using current and voltage measurements made on the body surface. It has been reported that the image reconstruction is distorted considerably when the boundary shape is considered to be more elliptical than circular as a more realistic shape for the measurement boundary. This paper describes an alternative framework for determining the distinguishability region with a finite measurement precision for different conductivity distributions in a body modeled by elliptic cylinder geometry. The distinguishable regions are compared in terms of modeling error for predefined inhomogeneities with elliptical and circular approaches for a noncircular measurement boundary at the body surface. Since most objects investigated by EIT are noncircular in shape, the analytical solution for the forward problem for the elliptical cross section approach is shown to be useful in order to reach a better assessment of the distinguishability region defined in a noncircular boundary. This paper is concentrated on centered elliptic inhomogeneity in the elliptical boundary and an analytic solution for this type of forward problem. The single-beat reconstruction of electrical cardiac sources from body-surface electrocardiogram data might become an important issue for clinical application. The feasibility and field of application of noninvasive imaging methods strongly depend on development of stable algorithms for solving the underlying ill-posed inverse problems. We propose a novel spatiotemporal regularization approach for the reconstruction of surface transmembrane potential (TMP) patterns. Regularization is achieved by imposing linearly formulated constraints on the solution in the spatial as well as in the temporal domain. In the spatial domain an operator similar to the surface Laplacian, weighted by a regularization parameter, is used. In the temporal domain monotonic nondecreasing behavior of the potential is presumed. This is formulated as side condition without the need of any regularization parameter. Compared to presuming template functions, the weaker temporal constraint widens the field of application because it enables the reconstruction of TMP patterns with ischemic and infarcted regions. Following the line of Tikhonov regularization, but considering all time points simultaneously, we obtain a linearly constrained sparse large-scale convex optimization problem solved by a fast interior point optimizer. We demonstrate the performance with simulations by comparing reconstructed TMP patterns with the underlying reference patterns. 相似文献
