Data from exercise tests, echocardiograms, and lung perfusion scans were analyzed to determine whether the excessive minute ventilation (VE) often encountered among patients with tetralogy of Fallot is due to ventilation-perfusion mismatch secondary to branch pulmonary artery stenoses. Patients with branch PA stenoses had lower peak oxygen consumptions and higher VE during exercise than did patients without stenoses, and a strong correlation existed between the degree of pulmonary blood flow maldistribution on lung perfusion scan and the amount of excessive VE during exercise.  相似文献

The H3 complex, on mouse Chromosome 2, is an important model locus for understanding mechanisms underlying non-self Ag recognition during tissue transplantation rejection between MHC-matched mouse strains. H3a is a minor histocompatibility Ag gene, located within H3, that encodes a polymorphic peptide alloantigen recognized by cytolytic T cells. Other genes within the complex include beta2-microglobulin and H3b. A yeast artificial chromosome (YAC) contig is described that spans the interval between D2Mit444 and D2Mit17, a region known to contain H3a. This contig refines the position of many genes and anonymous loci. In addition, 23 new sequence-tagged sites are described that further increase the genetic resolution surrounding H3a. A novel assay was developed to determine the location of H3a within the contig. Representative YACs were modified by retrofitting with a mammalian selectable marker, and then introduced by spheroplast fusion into mouse L cells. YAC-containing L cells were screened for the expression of the YAC-encoded H3a(a) Ag by using them as targets in a cell-mediated lympholysis assay with H3a(a)-specific CTLs. A single YAC carrying H3a was identified. Based on the location of this YAC within the contig, many candidate genes can be eliminated. The data position H3a between Tyro3 and Epb4.2, in close proximity to Capn3. These studies illustrate how genetic and genomic information can be exploited toward identifying genes encoding not only histocompatibility Ags, but also any autoantigen recognized by T cells.  相似文献

This paper investigates the speed improvements available when using a graphics processing unit (GPU) for evaluation of individuals in a genetic programming (GP) environment. An existing GP system is modified to enable parallel evaluation of individuals on a GPU device. Several issues related to implementing GP on GPU are discussed, including how to perform tree-based GP on a device without recursion support, as well as the effect that proper memory layout can have on speed increases when using CUDA-enabled nVidia GPU devices. The specific GP implementation is designed to evolve stock trading strategies using technical analysis indicators. The second goal of this research is to investigate the possible improvement in performance when training individuals on a larger number of stocks and training days. This increased training size (nearly 100,000 training points) is enabled due to the speedups realized by GPU evaluation. Several different scenarios were used to test various speed optimizations of GP evaluation on the GPU device, with a peak speedup factor of over 600 (when compared to sequential evaluation on a 2.4 GHz CPU). Also, it is found that increasing the number of stocks and the length of the training period can result in higher out-of-training testing profitability.  相似文献

Viscosities of several mono-, di-, and trialkylamines have been measured in the temperature range 298 to 333 K. It is observed that viscosities are highly dependent on shape, size, and association through H-bond or through dipole. Following the transition state theory, energy, Gibbs free energy, and entropy of activation of viscous flow have been calculated. The values of expansion energy for these liquids have also been calculated using free volume theory, and subsequently amines have been classified as volume-restrained or energy-restrained liquids. The group contribution method of Van Velzen, Cardozo, and Langenkamp for estimating viscosity has been examined with the present and literature data, and the new group contribution increments N i and B i for amines have been evaluated.  相似文献

This paper explores the issues involved in moving from ethnographic explorations of work in context to a practical contribution to system design. It does so using the example of an interdisciplinary research project involving sociologists and computer scientists in the domain of air traffic control systems. It forms a pair with another paper (Sommerville et al., 1992) exploring these questions from the perspective of our computer science partners. We characterise ethnography as a research method, and consider the differences between undertaking it for strictly sociological or anthropological purposes by contrast with interdisciplinary and design purposes. We summarise some of our results in ethnographic explications of the work of air traffic controllers, and the sociality which it manifests. We describe the dialogues involved in rendering these observations informative for systems design, and the mutual translations implied in attempting to reconcile sociological with software engineering questions about supporting the work. We conclude by specifying some features of cooperative work which an engineering approach is in danger of overlooking; the ways, and limits, in which ethnographers can form a bridge between users and designers; and some of the conflicts of interest entrained in generating technical change.The research is funded by the UK MRC/SERC/ESRC Cognitive Science/HCI Initiative with the title Social Analysis of Control Systems for HCI Design, grant number SPG 8931598. Efficient Implementation of the Fuzzy c-Means Clustering Algorithms   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10  
This paper reports the results of a numerical comparison of two versions of the fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering algorithms. In particular, we propose and exemplify an approximate fuzzy c-means (AFCM) implementation based upon replacing the necessary ``exact' variates in the FCM equation with integer-valued or real-valued estimates. This approximation enables AFCM to exploit a lookup table approach for computing Euclidean distances and for exponentiation. The net effect of the proposed implementation is that CPU time during each iteration is reduced to approximately one sixth of the time required for a literal implementation of the algorithm, while apparently preserving the overall quality of terminal clusters produced. The two implementations are tested numerically on a nine-band digital image, and a pseudocode subroutine is given for the convenience of applications-oriented readers. Our results suggest that AFCM may be used to accelerate FCM processing whenever the feature space is comprised of tuples having a finite number of integer-valued coordinates.  相似文献

The last decade has witnessed the development and uprising of social media web services. The use of these shared online media as a source of huge amount of data for research purposes is still a challenging problem. In this paper, a novel framework is proposed to collect training samples from online media data to model the visual appearance of social events automatically. The visual training samples are collected through the analysis of the spatial and temporal context of media data and events. While collecting positive samples can be achieved easily thanks to dedicated event machine-tags, finding the most representative negative samples from the vast amount of irrelevant multimedia documents is a more challenging task. Here, we argue and demonstrate that the most common negative samples, originating from the same location as the event to be modeled, are best suited for the task. A novel ranking approach is devised to automatically select a set of negative samples. Finally the automatically collected samples are used to learn visual event models using Support Vector Machine (SVM). The resulting event models are effective to filter out irrelevant photos and perform with a high accuracy as demonstrated on various social events originating for various categories of events.  相似文献

Electronic calendars are important tools that are used by consumers on a daily basis. However, scheduling a meeting that involves persons with different commitments and preferences remains a difficult task. Meeting scheduling is difficult because current calendaring applications cannot handle the responsibility of automatically and autonomously managing time slots. This paper presents a distributed multi-agent system architecture in which each person is represented by an agent. These agents automatically and autonomously work together to assist different users to book meetings on their behalf. Each agent has the capability to manage, negotiate and schedule tasks, meetings, events, appointments for its assigned user. In this multi-agent system, the agents coordinate their activities and negotiate on behalf of their associated users to find a solution that satisfies the users' meeting requirements and preferences. A prototype of this system is implemented to demonstrate how the agents can automatically book meetings.  相似文献
