Nanocomposites of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoparticles treated with a silane coupling agent were successfully prepared by twin screw extrusion and injection molding. Some of the samples were annealed after the injection molding. The silane treatment promoted an improvement of the short‐ and long‐term mechanical properties of the nanocomposites. A higher stress and a six times higher deformation at break and a higher impact strength were observed in the silane‐treated nanocomposites when compared to the nontreated ones. The number of cycles to fail of the treated nanocomposites was almost 200% higher than the number of cycles to fail of the nontreated samples. The treatment also decreased the glass transition temperature and amount of crystallinity of the samples. This improvement in mechanical properties obtained from the silane treatment was attributed to the strengthening of the PEEK/HA interfacial bond, to the plasticization of the PEEK matrix by silane oligomers produced during the processing and to a better dispersion of the HA nanoparticles within the PEEK matrix. Samples annealing, however, diminished all these properties due to the increase in crystallinity. Studies of the short‐ and long‐term mechanical properties of these nanocomposites under physiological conditions and of the proliferation of stem cells are under way. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Developing robust technologies to remove emerging pollutants from water is urgent since conventional treatments are not technically prepared to remove them. This paper investigated the ibuprofen (IBU) adsorption capacity onto natural zeolite (NZ) and hydrothermally modified zeolite in an acidic medium followed by impregnation with the cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) (MZHT-CTAB). The materials characterization included scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA/DTG), N2 adsorption/desorption isotherm (BET), Zeta Potential (ZP), and Point of Zero Charge (pHPZC). The adsorptive capacity studies were carried out by varying the pH solution, a kinetic study at three concentrations (25, 50, and 100 mg L−1), and the contaminant concentration influence (5–100 mg L−1).  相似文献

The consumption of diet products has increased greatly in recent years. The objectives of the study were to develop a bittersweet chocolate added inulin and stevias with different rebaudioside A contents (60%, 80%, and 97%). Five chocolate samples were formulated with different sucrose concentrations to determine the ideal sucrose concentration for bittersweet chocolate. The use of just‐about‐right scale identified an ideal sucrose concentration of 47.5% (w/w). The sweetness equivalence in sugar‐free bittersweet chocolates was determined by the time–intensity method by 14 selected and trained judges. The data collected during each session of sensory evaluation furnished the following parameters in relation to the sweet stimulus: Imax (maximum intensity recorded), Timax (time at which the maximum intensity was recorded), Area (area of time × intensity curve), and Ttot (total duration time of the stimulus). The time–intensity analysis indicated that the percentages of rebaudioside A did not interfere with the sweetness intensity of the sweetener stevia in bittersweet chocolate and there was no significant difference in the concentrations tested (0.16%, 0.22%, 0.27%) of each stevia, in relation to the parameters evaluated. In addition, the reduction in fat content did not alter the perception of the sweetness intensity of the samples. These results showed important information to research and development of chocolate products. Therefore, the use of the lowest stevia concentration tested (0.16%) is the most indicated for use, since this quantity was sufficient to reach the ideal sweetness of the product, so there was no point in adding more.  相似文献

Mauritia flexuosa L. (Arecaceae) is a popular Brazilian fruit known as “buriti” and belonging to the category of functional foods. This work reviewed the phytochemistry profile, nutritional and pharmacological activities of M. flexuosa. The main bioactive compounds reported to buriti were carotenoids, tocopherols, ascorbic acid, phenolic compounds, fiber, phytosterols, and mono‐ and poly‐unsaturated fatty acids. These compounds were mainly related to antioxidant, hypolipemiant, photoprotector, antiaggregant, antithrombotic, anti‐inflammatory, hypoglycemiant, antimicrobial, and antitumor activities. Furthermore, some compounds present in buriti fruit and its properties were tested in vitro and in vivo and showed biotechnology applications, especially for extraction of fiber, polysaccharides, pigments, antioxidants, and oil. Howerer, the buriti fruit shows great relevance to the development of new products in food, pharmaceutical and chemical industry, this fruit is still underexploited and it has need to expand its production chain and processing to encourage their consumption and utilization.  相似文献

For more than 50 years dequalinium chloride has been used successfully as an antiseptic drug and disinfectant, particularly for clinical purposes. Given the success of dequalinium chloride, several series of mono- and bisquaternary ammonium compounds have been designed and reported to have improved antimicrobial activity. Furthermore, many of them exhibit high activity against mycobacteria and protozoa, especially against plasmodia. This review discusses the structure-activity relationships and the modes of action of the various series of (bis)quaternary ammonium compounds.  相似文献

Sialorrhea is a disorder which causes an increase in salivation. Scopolamine butylbromide (SBB) can be administrated to treat sialorrhea and its transdermal application minimizes the occurrence of side effects. This work compared SBB adsorption and release from two polymer matrices, polycaprolactone and natural rubber latex, as well as the matrices modified by gamma irradiation-induced graft copolymerization of acrylic acid (AAc). Grafting with AAc-introduced carboxylate groups onto the surface of the matrices evident from chemical analysis and resulted in increased hydrophilicity evident from contact angle measurements. SBB adsorbed to the matrices without changing its structure and for the AAc-grafted matrices this was governed by electrostatic interactions. Higher SBB loading was observed for the AAc-grafted matrices while SBB release was slower for the non-grafted matrices than the grafted matrices. The four different matrices produced are candidates for the development of a transdermal drug delivery system.  相似文献
