The performance of batch-mode dehumidifier dryers undergoes significant changes during the drying process due to the range of temperature and humidity conditions experienced. Consequently steady-state methods are inapplicable for determining the performance of such kilns. In this paper a dynamic dehumidifier kiln model is used to estimate the drying speed, energy use and annual income for a batch-mode dehumidifier kiln. The model has been validated at both the dryer and dehumidifier levels, and the product is Pinus radiata, an easy-to-dry plantation soft-wood. The results show that control limits for the evaporating and condensing temperatures must be well matched to maximise the drying speed in the constant rate period. In the falling rate period, it is important not to place a lower limit the relative humidity unnecessarily. The use of supplementary heat to accelerate the kiln start-up is shown to have only a small influence on the kiln performance.  相似文献

Nutrients should be viewed as the earliest of the hormone signals which allowed an organism to respond to changes in its nutrient environment. Defining nutrient function at the nuclear level will permit us to understand how our dietary environment is related to the development of nutritionally related pathophysiologies such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Moreover, through the application of molecular techniques, we will begin to understand how specific nutrients govern the developmental pattern of specific organs such as the kidney. In this review, the fatty acid synthase gene is employed as a model to demonstrate how one sequentially approaches questions pertaining to the regulation of gene expression by a nutrient, and the article presents a nuclear explanation for how dietary polyunsaturated fats decrease blood triglycerides. More importantly, studies of this nature provide a basis for screening genetically susceptible populations and information that will allow the nutritionists of the 21st century to customize a diet for patients at risk.  相似文献

In lexically based studies, we derived Filipino personality dimensions and related them to the Big Five model. In Study 1, Filipino high-school and college students (N = 629) rated themselves on a near-comprehensive list of 861 Filipino (Tagalog) trait adjectives. In Study 2, Filipino high-school and college students (N = 1,531) rated 280 markers of dimensions identified in Study 1. Some students (n = 473) also completed the NEO Five-Factor Inventory. Seven comparable Filipino dimensions were identified in factor analyses in the two studies. We concluded that the dimensions we labeled Concern for Others (vs. Egotism), Conscientiousness, Gregariousness, and Intellect were quite similar to Big Five Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, and Intellect, respectively. The Filipino Self-Assurance dimension was most similar to Big Five Neuroticism. The Filipino Temperamentalness dimension was more complex in Big Five terms, overlapping Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Neuroticism. A final Filipino factor resembled a Negative Valence or Infrequency dimension. More than five factors had to be extracted to obtain Philippine dimensions resembling all of the Big Five.  相似文献

We previously reported that single administration of ibogaine, an indol alkaloid with antiaddictive properties, dose dependently reduced alcohol intake in three strains of alcohol-preferring rats. The present study examined the effect of different doses of a newly developed nontoxic ibogaine analogue, 18-methoxycoronaridine (18-MC), on alcohol intake. Selectively bred alcohol-preferring rats received a single intraperitoneal injection of vehicle or 5, 20 and 40 mg/kg of 18-MC at 9:30 AM, and their consumption of alcohol, water and food was measured for 24 h. Our results demonstrate that a single injection of 18-MC significantly and dose dependently attenuated alcohol consumption and preference and commensurately increased water intake. Only the highest dose of 18-MC significantly decreased food intake. Although the true mechanism of action of 18-MC in suppressing alcohol intake is not yet fully understood, it may, like ibogaine, exert its attenuating effects on alcohol consumption by modulating neurotransmitters believed to be involved in the regulation of alcohol intake.  相似文献
