The effects of organoclay type, compatibilizer, and the addition order of components during melt‐blending process on the morphology and thermal, mechanical, and flow properties of ternary nanocomposites based on low‐density polyethylene (LDPE) were investigated. As a compatibilizer, ethylene/methyl acrylate/glycidyl methacrylate (E‐MA‐GMA), as organoclays Cloisites® 15A, 25A, and 30B were used. All samples were prepared by a corotating twin screw extruder, followed by injection molding. The highest increase of the basal spacing for ternary nanocomposites was obtained in LDPE/E‐MA‐GMA/Cloisite® 30B nanocomposites with interlayer spacing of 59.2 Å. Organoclay and compatibilizer addition did not influence the melting/crystallization behavior of the compositions, and both compatibilizer and organoclays had no significant nucleation activity in LDPE. Among the ternary nanocomposites, the maximum increase in tensile strength and tensile modulus values was observed for nanocomposites containing organoclay Cloisite® 15A. The improvement with respect to neat LDPE was 43% for tensile strength and 44% for tensile modulus. According to the mechanical analysis, the best sequence of component addition was the one in which LDPE, organoclay, and compatibilizer were simultaneously fed to the extruder in the first run, and the product of the first run was extruded once more. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four experiments with rats studied the effects of switching the context after Pavlovian conditioning. In three conditioned suppression experiments, a large number of conditioning trials created "inhibition with reinforcement" (IWR), in which fear of the conditional stimulus (CS) reached a maximum and then declined despite continued CS-unconditional stimulus pairings. When IWR occurred, a context switch augmented fear of the CS; IWR and augmentation were highly correlated. Neither IWR nor augmentation resulted from inhibition of delay (IOD): In conditioned suppression, IWR and augmentation occurred without IOD (Experiment 3), and in appetitive conditioning (Experiment 4), IOD occurred without IWR or augmentation. IWR may occur in conditioned suppression because the animal adapts to fear of the CS in a context-specific manner. The authors discuss several implications. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are employed to study N2O decomposition on relaxed [(SiH3)4AlO4M] (where M = Fe, Co) cluster models representing Fe- and Co-ZSM-5 surfaces and Fe-ZSM-5 channel cluster. The catalytic cycle steps are completed both for Fe- and Co-ZSM-5 clusters. It is found that the general trend of the results obtained is in agreement with experimental and theoretical literature: Co-ZSM-5 has a lower activation energy barrier than Fe-ZSM-5 and O2 desorption step is the rate-limiting step for both clusters. The activation barrier for the decomposition of the first N2O molecule inside a Fe-ZSM-5 channel cluster increases in comparison with that of the cluster model indicating a channel effect on the activation barrier. The activation barrier reported for the channel cluster is 12.63 kcal/mol. This is also in good agreement with experimental literature. 相似文献

In this study, the effect of organically modified clay on the orientation enhancement in Nylon 11 in melt casting was investigated. Nylon 11 was mixed with 1 and 3 wt% Cloisite 20A using twin screw extrusion and they were cast into films with varying take-up speeds. The addition of clay in Nylon 11 helped increase orientation levels substantially in melt cast films, both as a function of clay concentration as well as take-up speeds. This was primarily due to shear amplification effect caused by the movement of adjacent clay nanoparticles due to the shear flow gradient within the die. At low clay concentrations, the sub-Tm stretchability, and electrical breakdown strength improve as the presence of clay reduces inter/intrachain hydrogen bonding. At higher clay concentrations, both orientation and electrical breakdown levels decrease. The latter is primarily caused by increased percolation path of charge carriers. Nevertheless, clay nanoplatelets were very effective in their role as melt processing aids, as they enhance orientation levels of Nylon 11 thin films by shear amplification effect where they increase local chain orientation of chains trapped between clay platelets while their orientation relaxation is suppressed. 相似文献

Characterized by their strong 1D confinement and long-lifetime red-shifted emission spectra, colloidal nanoplatelets (NPLs) with type-II electronic structure provide an exciting ground to design complex heterostructures with remarkable properties. This work demonstrates the synthesis and optical characterization of CdSe/CdSeTe/CdTe core/crown/crown NPLs having a step-wise gradient electronic structure and disproportional wavefunction distribution, in which the excitonic properties of the electron and hole can be finely tuned through adjusting the geometry of the intermediate crown. The first crown with staggered configuration gives rise to a series of direct and indirect transition channels that activation/deactivation of each channel is possible through wavefunction engineering. Moreover, these NPLs allow for switching between active channels with temperature, where lattice contraction directly affects the electron–hole (e–h) overlap. Dominated by the indirect transition channels over direct transitions, the lifetime of the NPLs starts to increase at 9 K, indicative of low dark-bright exciton splitting energy. The charge transfer states from the two type-II interfaces promote a large number of indirect transitions, which effectively increase the absorption of low-energy photons critical for nonlinear properties. As a result, these NPLs demonstrate exceptionally high two-photon absorption cross-sections with the highest value of 12.9 × 106 GM and superlinear behavior. 相似文献
