The potential of poly(ethyleneterephthalate) glycolysates toward improving the energy absorption characteristics of cycloaliphatic epoxy resins has been explored. Microwave‐assisted glycolytic depolymerization of PET was performed in the presence of polyether diols of different molecular weights. The obtained glycolysates were blended with epoxy, and their mechanical properties were studied under both quasi‐static and dynamic conditions. Significant improvements were observed, which were found to depend both on the amount as well as nature of glycolysate. Amine functionalities were introduced at the terminal positions of glycolysates to improve the compatibility between the two phases. The amine derivatives exhibited superior performance and the Mode I fracture toughness (KIC) of epoxy increased by ~18% in optimized compositions, which is indicative of its improved notch sensitivity. Neat epoxy specimens fractured in a brittle fashion, but all the blends exhibited ductile failure, as evidenced by surface morphological investigations. The mechanical properties of epoxy blends prepared with analogous aliphatic polyols, both before and after amine functionalization, were also studied which clearly reveal the beneficial role of aromatic groups toward improving the toughness of the base cycloaliphatic epoxy resin without compromising on the material stiffness. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. There has been much debate in the literature over the past 60 years regarding an appropriate oven-drying temperature for water content determinations in peat and other organic soils. For inorganic soils, the water content is usually based on the equilibrium dry mass corresponding to drying temperatures in the range 100–110°C. However, for peat and other organic soils, several researchers have recommended lower drying temperatures in the range 60–90°C in an attempt to prevent possible charring, oxidation, and/or vaporization of substances other than pore water. However, all of the relevant water is not fully evaporated at too low a temperature, and because specimen dry mass is a function of drying temperature, the resulting water content values are lower than those determined for the temperature range 100–110°C. Experimental data reported in this article show that oven drying of peat and other organic soils at 100–110°C using either gravity–convection or forced-draft ovens is acceptable for routine water content determinations. Because a standardized oven temperature is desirable when correlating water content with other material properties, it is recommended that oven drying of peat and other organic soils be performed over temperature ranges of either 105–110°C or 105 ± 5°C, in line with standardized ranges for inorganic soils. 相似文献

A study was conducted to determine the most suitable lactic culture combinations and the techniques for the preparation of low moisture part skim (LMPS) mozzarella cheese (pizza cheese) with a low level of galactose. The cheesemaking time tested for all 12 culture combinations was less than 3 h and hence was found suitable for pizza cheesemaking. The initial accumulated galactose concentration was lower in unstretched curd followed by no-brine curd and stretched curd in ascending order. During storage of the cheese for 7 days, the galactose percentage in the cheeses prepared using cultures comprising galactose-fermenting strains of Lactobacillus helveticus and Streptococcus thermophilus was 0.30 in stretched curd, 0.04 in unstretched curd and 0.03 in no-brine curd. The degree of reduction in the level of galactose in pizza cheese during storage was maximum with the no-brine curd technique followed by the unstretched and stretched curd techniques in that order. This study provides information regarding selection of starter culture combinations and techniques for pizza cheesemaking based on consumer preference for low or moderate browning mozzarella cheese as a result of its galactose concentration. 相似文献

Bioactive fraction of brown algae Sargassum wightii (SWE) was obtained using silica column chromatography and preparative Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). FT-IR and LC–mass spectrometry ESI analysis revealed presence of various phlorotannins in the SWE. The IC50 value of SWE was found to be 59.91, 51.04, and 55.21 μg/ml for scavenging of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, 2,2-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid), and Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power assay, respectively. SWE inhibited angiotensin-I-converting enzyme (ACE) in mixed-type manner with IC50 value of 56.96 µg/ml and Ki value of 45 µg/ml. The dual function such as antioxidant and ACE inhibition of SWE warrants further study to understand the antihypertensive potential in vivo. 相似文献

A double layer coating was evaluated for maintenance of quality of dragon fruit during storage at 10?±?2 °C and 80?±?5 % RH for 28 days. Significant differences (p?<?0.05) were observed between control and the treated fruit. However, a double layer coating with 600 nm droplet size?+?1.0 % conventional chitosan showed promising results in all the tested parameters, while the fruit treated with 1,000 nm droplet size?+?1.0 % conventional chitosan showed some negative effects on fruit surface. Increase in weight loss was 12.0 % in fruit treated with 600 nm droplet size and 1.0 % conventional chitosan as compared to the control. Antioxidants and gaseous analysis also proved the efficacy of double layer coatings with 600 nm droplet size?+?1.0 % conventional chitosan. Thus it can be concluded from the present investigation that double layer coating could be used for maintaining quality in dragon fruit for up to 28 days without any off-flavours. 相似文献

The ultrasonic‐assisted extraction of polysaccharides (PS) from Ganoderma lucidum, was subjected to a scale‐up study. 0.25 L extractor was used to optimize the extraction conditions toward maximum yield of PS. The extracted PS was observed to be reduced by increasing the scale from 1 to 6 L. To intensify the extraction, axial circulation at different stirring rates was induced and optimized in a 3 L U‐tube extractor. Although circulation at 300 rpm improved the yield of PS for 3 L, introducing dispersion geometry (conical funnel) and adjusting the radiation distance in a 6 L U‐tube extractor further intensified the extraction efficiency. A radiation distance of 4 cm and circulation induced using 600 rpm enhanced the PS as compared to the conventional 6 L extractor. Overall, the scale‐up from 0.25 to 6 L was successful and introducing circulation and dispersion geometry intensified the extraction efficiency under similar dissipation of ultrasonic power. © 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 61: 1483–1491, 2015 相似文献

Electrochemical treatment of real acidic effluent of copper phthalocyanine dye manufacturing plant with a view to explore the feasibility of the simultaneous removal of copper and phthalocyanine using a bipolar disc electrochemical reactor has been investigated. Experiments were conducted in a bipolar capillary gap disc stack electrochemical reactor under batch recirculation mode. Electrodes were RuO2 and IrO2 coated on titanium as anode and titanium as cathode. Effects of current density, electrolysis time and effluent flow rate on copper recovery and simultaneous COD removal and energy consumption were critically examined. The current density of 2.5 A dm−2 and flow rate of 20 L h−1 achieved 91.1% COD removal and 90.1% copper recovery with the energy consumption of 50.86 kWh kg−1 for COD removal and simultaneous recovery of copper in a bipolar disc stack reactor. 相似文献
