This research develops a typology of atmospherics that contains user-identified modules and modular options for personalizing 3D virtual fashion stores. A content analysis of 46 focus group discussions (n = 170) was conducted to understand the user’s perspective for personalizing 3D virtual fashion store atmospherics. Based on three atmospheric categories (pathfinding assistant, environment, and the manner of product presentation), 17 modules and 207 modular options were identified for personalizing 3D virtual stores. This research pioneers the development of an atmospherics typology for personalizing 3D virtual shopping environments as a persuasive selling tool in the emerging field of 3D virtual reality (VR) retailing.  相似文献

We developed an intelligent tutoring system (ITS) that aims to promote engagement and learning by dynamically detecting and responding to students' boredom and disengagement. The tutor uses a commercial eye tracker to monitor a student's gaze patterns and identify when the student is bored, disengaged, or is zoning out. The tutor then attempts to reengage the student with dialog moves that direct the student to reorient his or her attentional patterns towards the animated pedagogical agent embodying the tutor. We evaluated the efficacy of the gaze-reactive tutor in promoting learning, motivation, and engagement in a controlled experiment where 48 students were tutored on four biology topics with both gaze-reactive and non-gaze-reactive (control condition) versions of the tutor. The results indicated that: (a) gaze-sensitive dialogs were successful in dynamically reorienting students’ attentional patterns to the important areas of the interface, (b) gaze-reactivity was effective in promoting learning gains for questions that required deep reasoning, (c) gaze-reactivity had minimal impact on students’ state motivation and on self-reported engagement, and (d) individual differences in scholastic aptitude moderated the impact of gaze-reactivity on overall learning gains. We discuss the implications of our findings, limitations, future work, and consider the possibility of using gaze-reactive ITSs in classrooms.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to identify how physiological measures relate to self-reported vehicle seating discomfort. Twelve subjects of varied anthropometric characteristics were enrolled in the study. Subjects sat in two seats over a 2-h period and were evaluated via three physiological measures (near-infrared spectroscopy, electromyography and pressure mapping) yielding six testing sessions. Subjective discomfort surveys were recorded before and after each session for nine regions of the body. Conditional classification discomfort models were developed through dichotomised physiological responses and anthropometry to predict subjective discomfort in specific body locations. Models revealed that subjects taller than 171 cm with reduced blood oxygenation in the biceps femoris or constant, low-level muscle activity in the trapezius tended to report discomfort in the lower extremities or neck, respectively. Subjects weighing less than 58 kg with reduced blood oxygenation in the biceps femoris or unevenly distributed pressure patterns tended to report discomfort in the buttocks. The sensitivities and specificities of cross-validated models ranged between 0.69 and 1.00.  相似文献

An abdominal wall hernia is a protrusion of the intestine through an opening or area of weakness in the abdominal wall. Correct pre-operative identification of abdominal wall hernia meshes could help surgeons adjust the surgical plan to meet the expected difficulty and morbidity of operating through or removing the previous mesh. First, we present herein for the first time the application of image analysis for automated identification of hernia meshes. Second, we discuss the novel development of a new entropy-based image texture feature using geostatistics and indicator kriging. Third, we seek to enhance the hernia mesh identification by combining the new texture feature with the gray-level co-occurrence matrix feature of the image. The two features can characterize complementary information of anatomic details of the abdominal hernia wall and its mesh on computed tomography. Experimental results have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed study. The new computational tool has potential for personalized mesh identification which can assist surgeons in the diagnosis and repair of complex abdominal wall hernias.  相似文献

Random Forests receive much attention from researchers because of their excellent performance. As Breiman suggested, the performance of Random Forests depends on the strength of the weak learners in the forests and the diversity among them. However, in the literature, many researchers only considered pre-processing of the data or post-processing of the Random Forests models. In this paper, we propose a new method to increase the diversity of each tree in the forests and thereby improve the overall accuracy. During the training process of each individual tree in the forest, different rotation spaces are concatenated into a higher space at the root node. Then the best split is exhaustively searched within this higher space. The location where the best split lies decides which rotation method to be used for all subsequent nodes. The performance of the proposed method here is evaluated on 42 benchmark data sets from various research fields and compared with the standard Random Forests. The results show that the proposed method improves the performance of the Random Forests in most cases.  相似文献

The Artificial Reaction Network (ARN) is a Cell Signalling Network inspired connectionist representation belonging to the branch of A-Life known as Artificial Chemistry. Its purpose is to represent chemical circuitry and to explore computational properties responsible for generating emergent high-level behaviour associated with cells. In this paper, the computational mechanisms involved in pattern recognition and spatio-temporal pattern generation are examined in robotic control tasks. The results show that the ARN has application in limbed robotic control and computational functionality in common with Artificial Neural Networks. Like spiking neural models, the ARN can combine pattern recognition and complex temporal control functionality in a single network, however it offers increased flexibility. Furthermore, the results illustrate parallels between emergent neural and cell intelligence.  相似文献
