The aim of this research was to study the behaviour of the drying kinetics of pepino fruit (Solanum muricatum Ait.) at five temperatures (50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 °C). In addition, desorption isotherms were determined at 20, 40 and 60 °C over a water activity range from 0.10 to 0.90. The Guggenheim, Anderson and de Boer model was suitable to depict the desorption data. A monolayer moisture content from 0.10 to 0.14 g water g−1 d.m. was reported. The equations of Newton, Henderson–Pabis, Modified Page, Wang–Singh, Modified Henderson–Pabis, Logarithmic as well as standardised Weibull were tested for modelling drying kinetics. Besides, Fick’s second law model was used to calculate the water diffusion coefficient which increased with temperature from 2.55 to 7.29 × 10−10 m2 s−1, with estimated activation energy of 27.11 kJ mol−1. The goodness of fit of the models was evaluated using sum squared error and chi-square statistical tests. The comparison of the experimental moisture values with respect to the calculated values showed that the standardised Weibull model presented the best goodness of fit, showing that this equation is very accurate for simulating drying kinetics for further optimisation of drying times.  相似文献

Endothelial and epithelial barrier function is crucial for the maintenance of physiological processes. The barrier paracellular permeability depends on the composition and spatial distribution of the cell-to-cell tight junctions (TJ). Here, we provide an experimental workflow that yields several layers of physiological data in the setting of a single endothelial cell monolayer. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells were grown on Transwell filters. Transendothelial electrical resistance (TER) and 10 kDa FITC dextran flux were measured using Alanyl-Glutamine (AlaGln) as a paracellular barrier modulator. Single monolayers were immunolabelled for Zonula Occludens-1 (ZO-1) and Claudin-5 (CLDN5) and used for automated immunofluorescence imaging. Finally, the same monolayers were used for single molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) of ZO-1 and CLDN5 at the nanoscale for spatial clustering analysis. The TER increased and the paracellular dextran flux decreased after the application of AlaGln and these functional changes of the monolayer were mediated by an increase in the ZO-1 and CLDN5 abundance in the cell–cell interface. At the nanoscale level, the functional and protein abundance data were accompanied by non-random increased clustering of CLDN5. Our experimental workflow provides multiple data from a single monolayer and has wide applicability in the setting of paracellular studies in endothelia and epithelia.  相似文献

Fiber wireless access networks (FiWi) are capable of providing broadband 100 Mbit/s services with acceptable costs and can be considered as a competitive alternative to fiber to the home (FTTH). Techno‐economic analysis of viable FiWi architectures is needed in order to obtain the most suitable solution taking into account both technical and economical viewpoints. In this paper, a new approach to techno‐economic analysis of the FiWi networks is proposed. The proposed approach is based on the net present value calculation with the source packet traffic generation rate and traffic intensity as input parameters. As a precondition to net present value calculation, a traffic optimization procedure that assures the quality of experience is performed. Mistletoe (Viscum album) is mostly used in its herbal form owing to its content of diverse biologically active substances. In Croatia's Adriatic region, it is used for production of Biska, a strong alcoholic beverage produced by maceration of mistletoe in spirit or brandy, with or without the addition of honey. In this work, Biska was characterised by analysis of aroma compounds and physicochemical parameters and is the first study of the aroma profile of a strong alcoholic beverage produced with mistletoe. The aroma of 14 samples of Biska – five commercial and nine homemade – was analysed using GC/MS with solid‐phase microextraction. A total of 166 aroma compounds were detected. Major components were ethyl esters (medium and long chain fatty acids), fatty alcohols, isopropyl myristate, aldehyde decanal and some terpenes. The distribution of aroma compounds was evaluated by principal component analysis. Some significant differences in physicochemical properties were observed including ethanol concentration (28–44% v/v) and pH (4.4–6.5). Although the colour of Biska was light brown with greenish reflections, there were differences in chromatic parameters. The commercial samples were darker and were less transparent than homemade Biska, perhaps reflecting more extensive maceration/extraction or the addition of caramel. © 2018 The Institute of Brewing & Distilling  相似文献

In the framework of extreme pollution concentrations being more and more frequent in many cities nowadays, air quality forecasting is crucial to protect public health through the anticipation of unpopular measures like traffic restrictions. In this work, we develop the core of a 48 h ahead forecasting system which is being deployed for the city of Madrid. To this end, we investigate the predictive power of a set of neural network models, including several families of deep networks, applied to the task of predicting nitrogen dioxide concentrations in an urban environment. Careful feature engineering on a set of related magnitudes as meteorology and traffic has proven useful, and we have coupled these neural models with mesoscale numerical pollution forecasts, which improve precision by up to 10%. The experiments show that some neural networks and ensembles consistently outperform the reference models, particularly improving the Naive model’s results from around (20%) up to (57%) for longer forecasting horizons. However, results also reveal that deeper networks are not particularly better than shallow ones in this setting.

The influence of operating and environmental conditions on the microbial populations of the enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR) process at seven full-scale municipal activated sludge wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in The Netherlands was studied. Data from the selected WWTPs concerning process configuration, operating and environmental conditions were compiled. The EBPR activity from each plant was determined by execution of anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic batch tests using fresh activated sludge. Fractions of Accumulibacter as potential phosphorus accumulating organisms (PAO), and Competibacter, Defluviicoccus-related microorganisms and Sphingomonas as potential glycogen accumulating organisms (GAO) were quantified using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). The relationships among plant process configurations, operating parameters, environmental conditions, EBPR activity and microbial populations fractions were evaluated using a statistical approach. A well-defined and operated denitrification stage and a higher mixed liquor pH value in the anaerobic stage were positively correlated with the occurrence of Accumulibacter. A well-defined denitrification stage also stimulated the development of denitrifying PAO (DPAO). A positive correlation was observed between Competibacter fractions and organic matter concentrations in the influent. Nevertheless, Competibacter did not cause a major effect on the EBPR performance. The observed Competibacter fractions were not in the range that would have led to EBPR deterioration. Likely, the low average sewerage temperature (12+/-2 degrees C) limited their proliferation. Defluviicoccus-related microorganisms were seen only in negligible fractions in a few plants (<0.1% as EUB), whereas Sphingomonas were not observed.  相似文献

The production of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells enriched with copper and the effects of adding copper ions to different media on yeast cell growth and ethanol production were studied. In the media Cu(2+) concentrations of up to 0.094 mM had no effect on alcoholic fermentation, whereas higher Cu(2+) concentrations markedly decreased yeast cell growth rate and ethanol production. Under static conditions, the maximum amounts of copper uptake (i.e., 1.16 mg/g, 1.2 mg/g and 0.81 mg/g dry matter yeast biomass for glucose, sucrose and molasses media, respectively) were obtained after 8 h of fermentation, whereas under dynamic conditions smaller amounts of copper uptake (i.e., 0.98 mg/g, 1.02 mg/g and 0.7 mg/g dry matter yeast biomass for glucose, sucrose and molasses media, respectively) were obtained after 6 h of fermentation.  相似文献

Tiling modification in fullerene modeling can be achieved by some map operations. In this respect, sequences of classical operations, or single generalized operations, were used to obtain corannulene-like azulenic patterns. The aromaticity of such cages tessellated by "corazulenic" supra-faces is discussed in terms of several criteria. Particularly, the number of Kekulé valence structures, was considered as a rough measure of the fullerene aromaticity and implicitely of their stability. The covering was given as a pi-electron partition within some Kekulé valence structures. The well-known geometric index of aromaticity HOMA (harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity) enabled the evaluation of local aromaticity of the discussed supra-faces and brought evidence for several dominant Kekulé valence structures.  相似文献
