The nonlinear Boussinesq equation is used to understand water table fluctuations in various ditch drainage problems. An approximate solution of this equation with a random initial condition and deterministic boundary conditions, recharge rate and aquifer parameters has been developed to predict a transient water table in a ditch-drainage system. The effects of uncertainty in the initial condition on the water table are illustrated with the help of a synthetic example. These results would find applications in ditch-drainage design.Notation

Barium ferrite has been prepared by a novel non-conventional preparation method known as the liquid mix technique which involves the preparation of citrates of the metals concerned. The decomposition of the citrates indicated a gradual transition from an amorphous material to a crystalline phase leading to the formation of barium ferrite at 600° C as indicated by the X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer measurements. Submicrometre-sized particles of the ferrite could be obtained directly on decomposition of the citrates, thus avoiding the milling or grinding operations normally employed to reduce the particles to the size required for obtaining good magnetic properties. The best properties (coercivity and remanence) were obtained for the ferrite sintered around 990° C. 相似文献

A new manganite type CMR material, La0.7Hg0.3MnO3 has been successfully synthesized and has been found to exhibit magnetoresistance (≈9%) at low fields (≈1.5 kG). The synthesis has been carried out through a solid state reaction route consisting of the formation of La0.7MnO3 followed by diffusion of Hg leading to La0.7Hg0.3MnO3. The as grown samples are polycrystalline and correspond to an orthorhombic unit cell with the lattice parameters; a=5.5183 Å, b=5.6383 Å and c=7.5368 Å. The typical grain size as revealed by scanning electron microscopy is in the range of 0.5–2 μm. The ρ–T behaviour shows a peak at TIM=227 K. The ρ–T behaviour above this temperature corresponds to that of an insulator and below this to that of a metal. The ρ–T behaviour remains unaltered when a magnetic field (Hdc=1.5 kG) is applied. However, with this magnetic field a drop in the resistivity is observed up to 77 K. At room temperature the magnetoresistance ratio (MRR) is too small but it steadily increases as the temperature is decreased. Thus, MRRs at 227.13 and 77 K are 3.41 and 9.05%, respectively, in an applied field of Hdc=1.5 kG. At a given temperature the variation in MRR with field Hdc is rapid at lower field values (Hdc<1.2 kG) and scales linearly for higher field values (Hdc>1.2 kG). It may be mentioned that the present work on the synthesis and magnetoresistance behaviour of La0.7Hg0.3MnO3, is the first of its type. 相似文献

Thus it may be summarised that work hardening behaviour of the alloy superni 263 can not be analysed using the simple power law equation. The work hardening behaviour is satisfactorily analysed using the modified power law equation (Ludwigson equation). There is systematic variation in the different work hardening parameters K1, n1, K2, n2 and C with the period of ageing at 800 °C. Disruption of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE barrier integrity is a hallmark feature of various retinal blinding diseases, including diabetic macular edema and age-related macular degeneration, but the underlying causes and pathophysiology are not completely well-defined. One of the most conserved phenomena in biology is the progressive decline in mitochondrial function with aging leading to cytopathic hypoxia, where cells are unable to use oxygen for energy production. Therefore, this study aimed to thoroughly investigate the role of cytopathic hypoxia in compromising the barrier functionality of RPE cells. We used Electric Cell-Substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS) system to monitor precisely in real time the barrier integrity of RPE cell line (ARPE-19) after treatment with various concentrations of cytopathic hypoxia-inducing agent, Cobalt(II) chloride (CoCl2). We further investigated how the resistance across ARPE-19 cells changes across three separate parameters: Rb (the electrical resistance between ARPE-19 cells), α (the resistance between the ARPE-19 and its substrate), and Cm (the capacitance of the ARPE-19 cell membrane). The viability of the ARPE-19 cells and mitochondrial bioenergetics were quantified with 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and seahorse technology, respectively. ECIS measurement showed that CoCl2 reduced the total impedance of ARPE-19 cells in a dose dependent manner across all tested frequencies. Specifically, the ECIS program’s modelling demonstrated that CoCl2 affected Rb as it begins to drastically decrease earlier than α or Cm, although ARPE-19 cells’ viability was not compromised. Using seahorse technology, all three concentrations of CoCl2 significantly impaired basal, maximal, and ATP-linked respirations of ARPE-19 cells but did not affect proton leak and non-mitochondrial bioenergetic. Concordantly, the expression of a major paracellular tight junction protein (ZO-1) was reduced significantly with CoCl2-treatment in a dose-dependent manner. Our data demonstrate that the ARPE-19 cells have distinct dielectric properties in response to cytopathic hypoxia in which disruption of barrier integrity between ARPE-19 cells precedes any changes in cells’ viability, cell-substrate contacts, and cell membrane permeability. Such differences can be used in screening of selective agents that improve the assembly of RPE tight junction without compromising other RPE barrier parameters. 相似文献

Tribological properties of Ti3SiC2 ceramic and Ti3SiC2/GNP composite were investigated using fretting sliding against Si3N4 ball counter body at a load of 50 N for a sliding distance of 900 m, under non-textured lubricated (NTL), textured lubricated (TL) condition, and textured lubricated high temperature (TLHT). This paper presents the influence of laser surface texturing (LST) on Ti3SiC2 and its graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) reinforced composite established through spark plasma sintering (SPS), tested under fretting wear conditions. The coefficient of friction and wear rate of Ti3SiC2 and its graphene nanoplatelets reinforced composites were incontrovertibly enhanced with laser surface texturing as compared to non-textured Ti3SiC2 and its GNP composite. The TL surface of Ti3SiC2 composite reinforced with 15% GNP showed the lowest COF and wear rate. Almost negligible changes were observed for TLHT tests. The LST proved to an efficient technique for enhancing the friction and wear properties of Ti3SiC2 and Ti3SiC2/GNP composite. 相似文献
