The structure and properties of fibers prepared from copolymers of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) in which 2‐methyl‐1,3‐propanediol (MPDiol® Glycol is a registered trademark of Lyondell Chemical Company) at 4, 7, 10, and 25 mol% was substituted for ethylene glycol were studied and compared with those of PET homopolymer. Filaments were melt spun over a range of spinning conditions, and some filaments that were spun at relatively low spinning speeds were subjected to hot drawing. The filaments were characterized by measurements of birefringence, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) crystallinity, melting point, glass transition temperature, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction patterns, boiling water shrinkage, tenacity, and elongation to break. Filaments containing 25 mol% MPDiol did not crystallize in the spinline at any spinning speed investigated, whereas the other resins did crystallize in the spinline at high spinning speeds. However, compared with PET homopolymer, increasing substitution of MPDiol reduced the rate at which the crystallinity of the melt spun filaments increased with spinning speed and reduced the ultimate crystallinity that could be achieved by high‐speed spinning. The rate of development of molecular orientation, as measured by birefringence, also decreased somewhat with increasing MPDiol content. Shrinkage in boiling water decreased at high spinning speeds as the amount of crystallinity increased; however, the shrinkage decreased more slowly with increase in spinning speed as MPDiol content increased. Tenacity also decreased slightly at any given spinning speed as MPDiol content increased, but there was no significant effect on elongation to break. The addition of MPDiol in amounts up to 7 mol% increased the maximum take‐up velocity that could be achieved at a given mass throughput. This result indicates that the use of higher spinning speeds could potentially increase the productivity of melt spun yarns. Copolymer filaments spun at low speeds were readily drawn to produce highly oriented fibers with slightly less birefringence, crystallinity, and tenacity than similarly processed PET homopolymer. Multifunctional monomers, m‐xylylenedimaleimide, p‐phenylenedimaleimide, m‐phenylenedimaleimide, and p‐phenylenedinadimide, all of which have maleimide groups, were synthesized to increase thermal and radiation stabilities. The synthesized multifunctional monomers showed good compatibility with low‐density polyethylene (LDPE). Mixtures of LDPE and these multifunctional monomers were irradiated with γ‐rays from a Co‐60 source at room temperature in a nitrogen atmosphere. The absorbed dose ranged from 0 to 160 KGy. Among these multifunctional monomers, m‐xylylenedimaleimide was the best in gel fraction enhancement. Crosslinked LDPE with m‐xylylenedimaleimide displayed a higher modulus than that of crosslinked LDPE with triallyl cyanurate. For the elongation property, LDPE with m‐xylylenedimaleimide as a multifunctional monomer showed better results than that with commercial multifunctional monomers such as triallyl cyanurate (TAC) and trimethylol propane triacrylate (TMPTA). © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The goal of the current study was to investigate regulation of key genes involved in lipid metabolism in adipose and liver to relate lipolytic and lipogenic capacities with physiological changes at the pre-laying, onset of laying, and actively laying stages of quail. Followed by a 50 % increase from pre-laying to onset of laying, adipose to body weight ratio was significantly reduced by 60 % from the onset of laying to the actively laying stage (P < 0.05), mainly resulting from the significantly increased adipocyte size from the pre-laying stage to the onset of laying and reduction of adipocyte size from the onset of laying to the actively laying stage (P < 0.05). In the adipose tissue of actively laying quail, increased protein expression and phosphorylation of adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) together with an elevated mRNA expression of comparative gene identification-58, an activator of ATGL, contributes to increased lipolytic activity, as proved by increased amounts of plasma non-esterified fatty acid (P < 0.05). In addition, decreased mRNA expression of fatty acid transport protein in the actively laying quail could contribute to the adipocyte hypotrophy (P < 0.05). In the liver, relative mRNA expression of apo-very low density lipoprotein (VLDL)-II increased significantly from the pre-laying to actively laying stages (P < 0.05), indicating increased apoVLDL-II actively facilitated VLDL secretion in the actively laying quail. These results suggest that the laying birds undergo active lipolysis in the adipocyte, and increase VLDL secretion from the liver in order to secure a lipid supply for yolk maturation.  相似文献

Nucleic acid-based aptamers have been developed for the specific delivery of diagnostic nanoprobes. Here, we introduce a new class of smart imaging nanoprobe, which is based on hybridization of a magnetic nanocrystal with a specific aptamer for specific detection of the angiogenic vasculature of glioblastoma via magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. The magnetic nanocrystal imaging core was synthesized using the thermal decomposition method and enveloped by carboxyl polysorbate 80 for water solubilization and conjugation of the targeting moiety. Subsequently, the surface of the carboxylated magnetic nanocrystal was modified with amine-functionalized aptamers that specifically bind to the vascular growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) that is overexpressed on angiogenic vessels. To assess the targeted imaging potential of the aptamer-conjugated magnetic nanocrystal for VEGFR2 markers, the magnetic properties and MR imaging sensitivity were investigated using the orthotopic glioblastoma mouse model. In in vivo tests, the aptamer-conjugated magnetic nanocrystal effectively targeted VEGFR2 and demonstrated excellent MR imaging sensitivity with no cytotoxicity.  相似文献

The influences of heat-treatment temperature and activation time on the properties of TiO2 supported on spherical activated carbon (TiO2/SAC) were investigated. Nano-sized TiO2 was dispersed on the spherical activated carbon with the size of 10–30 nm. Some anatase phase of TiO2 was transformed to rutile phase of TiO2 with an increase of heat-treatment temperature. All of the TiO2/SAC photocatalysts had microporous structure, with the mesopore volume increasing over an activation time of 6 h. The TiO2/SAC photocatalysts obtained at activation times of 6 h and 9 h were observed synergistic effects between adsorption and photocatalysis in the removal of humic acid.  相似文献

There have been many studies on the use of photocatalysts as an advanced oxidation process (AOP) to oxidize and degrade organic-based contaminants. This research group has previously reported a production process of Ti based spherical activated carbon and the characteristics of the product. This paper further examines the process of fenton oxidation and the process of Ti-spherical carboneous material (Ti-SCM) photolysis to evaluate their respective advantages and disadvantages. Non-biodegradable humic acid (HA) was chosen for the purpose of the study to observe the degradation. It is demonstrated that fenton oxidation is fast and efficient in a low organic viscous solvent. Ti-SCM is not greatly affected by variation of the pH level and the process is also fast and efficient. Moreover, the process's retention rate of catalysts and its reusability were greater than that of fenton oxidation, which required pH balancing and produced sludge.  相似文献

Measurements of thermally stimulated currents were made on ionomer/polyethylene blends. The objective of this work was to study space charge formation in these materials. Two ionomers were compared; both ionomers contained methacrylic acid, neutralized by zinc in one and by sodium in the other. A large current peak centered near 60°C was observed in all blends and associated with the motion of space charges injected into the blends during poling. All blends accumulated large negative space charge concentrations. The approach to the equilibrium space charge distribution (negative and spatially uniform in all blends) is much more rapid in the blends containing the sodium ionomer than in the blends containing the zinc ionomer  相似文献

The formation of space charge in polycarbonate (PC)/poly (styrene-co-acrylonitrile) (SAN) blends containing poly (ϵ-caprolactone) (PCL) as a compatibilizer for improving the miscibility, has been studied by measuring spatial charge distributions. It is found that the miscibility of PC/SAN blends is improved as the PCL content increases. The amount of charge accumulated in the blends decreases when the PCL content increases to 15% by weight and then increases when the PCL content is >15% wt. The decrease of charge at the PCL content <15% wt was attributed to the combined effects of changes in conductivities and the molecular interactions at the domain interfaces. The increase of charge at the PCL content >15% wt was attributed to the trapping of charge at the amorphous and crystalline phases of PC and PCL  相似文献

This study aimed to find a way to remove organic pollutants, phenol and humic acid in aqueous solutions using TiO2 spherical activated carbon (Ti-SPAC). The Ti-SPAC was manufactured by resin ion-exchange and a heating process. This method was very effective not only in creating TiO2 on the surface of the supports evenly, but also in making activated carbon that has highly-developed micro pores. To estimate whether Ti-SPAC has the proper features as a photocatalyst and adsorbent, it was examined in detail by X-ray patterns, SEM image, EDXS, BET, EPMA. The results proved that Ti-SPAC is a very useful material for treating wastewater by photocatalysis and absorption.  相似文献
