A mixed-mode very large scale integration (VLSI) processor for acoustic transient classification performs a running correlation between a time-frequency decomposed analog input signal and a corresponding template. Differential encoding of the inputs allows simplification of the multiply-and-accumulate operations, operating on binary templates and positive-valued inputs, implemented in current mode with eight MOS transistors per cell including SRAM template storage. The use of a bucket-brigade device (BED) instead of a charge-coupled device (CCD) for shift-and-accumulate operations allows long integration times necessary for acoustic transients spanning several hundred milliseconds. Correlated double sampling at the output compensates for dark current losses in the BED and other common-mode effects. The 64×16 time-frequency correlator measures 700 μm×1170 μm in a 1.2-μm CMOS process and dissipates an average of 30 μW in continuous operation  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To compare transesophageal atrial pacing stress echocardiography with dobutamine stress echocardiography for feasibility, safety, duration, patient acceptance and concordance in inducing wall motion abnormalities. BACKGROUND: Transesophageal atrial pacing is an effective method of increasing heart rate and has been used in the assessment of coronary artery disease. METHODS: Both tests were performed in sequence on the same patients in random order. Transesophageal atrial pacing stress echocardiography began at a heart rate of 10 beats/min above the baseline value and was increased by 20 beats/min every two min until 85% of the age-predicted maximum heart rate or another end point was reached. Dobutamine echocardiography was performed using three-min stages and a maximum dose of 40 microg/kg per min. Atropine (total dose < or =2 mg) was administered at the start of the 40 microg/kg per min stage if needed to augment heart rate or during pacing if Wenckebach heart block occurred. RESULTS: Transesophageal atrial pacing stress echocardiography was feasible in 100 of 104 patients (96%); the duration (8.6+/-3.6 min) was significantly shorter than that of dobutamine stress echocardiography (15.1+/-3.9 min) (p = 0.0001). With transesophageal atrial pacing stress echocardiography, the recovery period was shorter, symptoms and dysrhythmias were fewer, hypertension and hypotension were less common and target heart rate was more frequently achieved. No complications occurred with either test. Patient acceptance was satisfactory. Agreement between results of both tests was good for segmental wall motion scoring with a 16-segment model, scores 1 to 5 (kappa: rest, 0.79; peak, 0.57) and test interpretation (normal, ischemia, infarction or resting wall motion abnormality with ischemia) (kappa: 0.77). CONCLUSIONS: Transesophageal atrial pacing stress echocardiography is a feasible, well-tolerated alternative to dobutamine stress echocardiography. It can be performed rapidly and shows good agreement with dobutamine stress echocardiography in the induction of myocardial ischemia.  相似文献

Bone tumors of the coracoid process of the scapula are rare, and diagnosis and treatment often are delayed. The records of 18 patients with bone tumors of the coracoid process were reviewed. Histologic types included eight cases of ordinary chondrosarcoma, three cases of dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma, two cases of osteoid osteoma, and one case each of osteosarcoma, plasmacytoma, lymphoma, giant cell tumor, and aneurysmal bone cyst. All 18 patients had shoulder pain, and eight of them had been treated with steroid injections for nonneoplastic conditions. Radiologically, chondrosarcoma did not always show clear cortical destruction, and one giant cell tumor had features mimicking those of chondrosarcoma. Five patients (three with dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma, one with chondrosarcoma, one with plasmacytoma) died of disease. The coracoid process was the site with a markedly high proportion of chondrosarcomas. Bone tumors of the coracoid process may be difficult to detect on plain radiographs. In the patient with persistent shoulder pain unresponsive to the selected treatment, additional imaging studies should be considered to eliminate the possibility of a bone lesion.  相似文献

The feasibility of bench scale sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) in treating a bottling plant effluent is demonstrated at various influent chemical oxygen demands (CODs) ranging from 300 to over 4,000 mg∕L. The SBRs removed over 75% of the biodegradable fraction of the influent COD at a fixed react time of 5.5 h. An easy to use process model is presented to predict the temporal variations of substrate, biomass, and dissolved oxygen concentrations during the fill and react periods in SBRs. The model satisfactorily predicted effluent COD and final biomass concentrations, as well as temporal variations of COD, biomass, and dissolved oxygen throughout the fill and react cycles.  相似文献

Activation induced cell death (AICD) plays a critical role in eliminating autoimmune cells and limiting inflammation after activation. The two major signaling molecules for AICD are the Fas and TNF-R pathways of apoptosis. Defective Fas apoptosis in lpr/lpr mice results in a compensatory increase in TNF-R/TNF-mediated apoptosis. TNF/TNF-R has been shown to be a compensatory pathway of apoptosis in T cells and macrophages of lpr/lpr mice. Therefore, early production of TNF/TNF-R limit an immune response by inducing AICD in the absence of an intact Fas/Fas ligand apoptosis pathway. However, increased TNF production in lpr mice also lead to increased susceptibility to septic shock and autoimmune disease such as arthritis. Therefore TNF production during an inflammatory response can downmodulate this response, but this also results in the failure to downmodulate TNF production leading to septic shock and arthritis. A second pathway of AICD is mediated by Nur77 after T cell stimulation through the CD3 molecule. Mice with defective Nur77 signaling undergo AICD using the Fas-Fas ligand pathway to eliminate autoreactive T cells. A third defect of AICD is observed in HCP-mutant me/me (motheaten) mice which develop autoimmune disease related to defective Fas apoptosis signaling. Therefore, multiple interactive pathways play a role in limiting development of autoimmunity.  相似文献

The rpL34 gene, which encodes a cytoplasmic ribosomal protein with a high homology to the rat 60S r-protein L34, was isolated from a genomic library of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Xanthi-nc). A 1500 bp upstream promoter fragment was fused to the chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (CAT) reporter gene or beta-glucuronidase (GUS) reporter gene and transferred into tobacco plants by the Agrobhacterium-mediated leaf disk transformation method. Analysis of CAT activity in leaf tissues showed that mechanical wounding increased the rpL34 promoter activity about 5 times as compared to untreated controls and that the promoter activity was further enhanced by plant growth regulators, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and benzyladenine. Histochemical GUS staining patterns of the transgenic plants showed that the rpL34 promoter activity is high in actively growing tissues, including various meristems, floral organs, and developing fruits. A series of 5' deletion analyses of the rpL34 promoter indicated that a 50 bp region located between -179 and -129 is essential for wound, auxin and cytokinin responses. Deletion of this region reduced the promoter activity to an undetectable level. Insertion of the 50 nucleotide sequence into a minimal promoter restored the promoter activity and the promoter strength was proportional to the copy number of the upstream sequence. The role of TATA and CAAT box regions was studied by a series of 3' deletion analyses. A 3' deletion up to -28 did not significantly affect the promoter strength. However deletion of the promoter up to 70 bp, which deleted the TATA box region, significantly reduced promoter activity. Further deletion of the promoter up to - 104. eliminating the CAAT box region, abolished the promoter activity. These results suggest that the TATA box and CAAT box regions are also important for the rpL34 promoter activity in addition to the 50 bp upstream region.  相似文献

In order to investigate radiation risks associated with low dose and low dose-rates, pregnant Swiss albino mice were exposed to gamma rays, 0.80 Gy from a cobalt-60 source at two different dose-rates (0.0795 and 0.0012 Gy/min) on 18 day post conception. In females exposed to lower dose-rate (0.0012 Gy/min), litter size was found to be decreased, while those exposed to higher dose-rate (0.0795 Gy/min), it remained unaltered. In both groups, appearance of fur and development of complete fur were delayed, whereas gait was delayed only in higher dose-rate group. Male offspring exhibited a biphasic mode of weight loss, while female offspring after an initial weight loss at 1 week, displayed a continuous recovery, but could not attain the normal weight till 12 weeks of age. It appears that higher dose-rate is more effective in delaying the appearance of physiological markers and weight loss, while in terms of litter size lower dose-rate (0.0012 Gy/min) is more effective.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Human serum represents an important barrier to the entry of most mucosal organisms into tissues and to the systemic circulation. If at all present, Helicobacter pylori within gastric tissue is rare, and bacteremia for this organism has been described only once. METHODS: To assess the susceptibility of H. pylori to the bactericidal activity present in normal human serum (NHS), we examined 13 H. pylori isolates. To assess the contributions of the classical and alternative complement pathways to killing, we added either C2-deficient or factor B-deficient serum, respectively, to heat-inactivated NHS. Also we assessed the ability of the strains to bind 125I-C3. RESULTS: After incubation for 60 minutes at 37 degrees C, all 13 H. pylori strains were killed by NHS; heating to 56 degrees C for 30 minutes ablated killing, indicating complement dependence for this phenomenon. In the absence of an antibody source, there was no killing when either an alternative or classical complement pathway source was used. Adding B-deficient serum to heat-inactivated normal human serum did not restore killing, but adding C2-deficient serum permitted partial killing. All of the 13 strains bound 125I-C3. Although the kinetics varied from strain to strain, C3 bound was significantly correlated (r = 0.61, p = 0.03) with serum susceptibility. CONCLUSIONS: H. pylori are susceptible to complement, alternative pathway activation appears critical, and C3 binding is a major locus of variability.  相似文献
