Samples consisting of the whole above-ground part of the oilseed rape plant (Brassica napus L), were taken every 2 weeks from before stem extension to maturity. The plants were separated into vegetative tissue, floral tissue, pods and seeds (when these components appeared), and the individual glucosinolates present were quantified by high performance liquid chromatography. A high glucosinolate variety (Rafal) and a low glucosinolate variety (Cobra) were compared. The effect of sulphur (32 kg ha?1 elemental sulphur applied at the beginning of stem extension) on the various parts of the plant was investigated. Total glucosinolate concentration in all plant parts was higher in Rafal than in Cobra. Glucosinolate concentration in the vegetation declined over time, most noticeably when the flowers and seeds were produced, and glucosinolate concentration of the pods also fell as that of the seeds rose. It is suggested that there may have been some redistribution of glucosinolates or glucosinolate precursors within the plant as maturity approached. Changes occurred in the proportions that individual glucosinolates contributed to the total glucosinolate content, and this may be relevant to plant/pathogen relationships. Sulphur application increased the glucosinolate concentration of the vegetative tissue by mid April and also increased the glucosinolate concentration of the flowers. An experimental study was carried out on n-pentane nucleate boiling at atmospheric pressure and saturation temperature for different gap sizes. The boiling was investigated in a confined space delimited by two horizontal discs, a heated surface and an adiabatic surface, for distances varying between 0.1 mm and 13 mm. Tests were carried out on heated surfaces of 12 mm and 20 mm diameter. The effects of the gap size on the partial boiling curve and the diameter of the heated surface were studied. Total cyanide analysis by distillation is used most commonly to assess cyanide content of water samples. This manual method is robust but slow and provides no information about cyanide speciation, a significant limitation in that cyanide species have substantially different toxicity characteristics. Seven alternative methods for the analysis of cyanide species or groups of species were evaluated in reagent water and five different contaminated water matrices, including five species-specific methods--weak acid dissociable (WAD) cyanide, free cyanide by microdiffusion, available cyanide, automated WAD cyanide by thin film distillation, metal cyanides by ion chromatography--and two automated techniques for total cyanide--total cyanide bythin film distillation and total cyanide by low-power UV digestion. The species-specific cyanide analytical techniques achieved low, ppb-level detection limits and exhibited satisfactory accuracy and precision for most contaminated waters. Analysis of low concentrations of cyanide species in raw wastewater was problematical for the available cyanide and ion chromatography methods, which experienced significant interference problems and/or low recoveries. There was recovery of significant diffusible cyanide in microdiffusion tests with nickel-cyanide-spiked samples, reflecting dissociation of this weak metal-cyanide complex during the test and demonstrating that the test can recover some fraction of WAD cyanide in addition to free cyanide. The automated total cyanide methods, which involve UV digestion, achieved low detection limits for most waters but exhibited low recoveries for some waters. 相似文献

Shutter glasses, polarized glasses, and head-mounted displays (HMDs) have become common technologies for providing the illusion of 3D. Shutter glasses, popularized by StereoGraphics as CrystalEyes, use an LCD shutter over each eye to enable stereo viewing. The shutters are rendered alternately opaque and transparent so that only one eye can see through the glasses at any moment. The glasses are synchronized to the display system presenting the right and left images at the same frequency as the shutters' phase shifts. These systems can work with televisions, computer monitors, or projectors, but require that the display system can generate images at twice the frequency desired for viewing, because each frame must be shown twice (once for each eye). Although they can cause some loss of image brightness and can suffer from crosstalk, shutter glasses work well and permit full-spectrum color. However, especially with low-cost systems, they can cause eyestrain and other discomfort. In addition, the eyewear is bulky and often heavy, which makes using shutter glasses for long periods of time somewhat uncomfortable. Autostereoscopic displays (ASDs) use several technologies to present different images to both of a viewer's eyes. Volumetric display systems (VDSs) create an image with true depth, letting the eyes and brainwork in natural manner. The use of SP2340 glass capillary columns for the estimation of thetrans fatty acid content of foods
Glass capillary gas chromatography (GCGC) on 100-m and 60-m SP2340 columns was used for quantitation of thetrans unsaturated fatty acids in shortenings and fast foods. The separation of thecis andtrans octadecenoates on GCGC was evaluated by preparatory argentation thin layer chromatography. In addition, thetrans content of shortening samples obtained by GCGC was compared totrans content determined by infrared analysis.
