The mechanical properties of seven types of silicone methacrylate microparticles prepared by solution polymerization with a Pickering emulsifier were investigated by Atomic Force Microscope force–displacement curves acquired in air with the Colloidal Probe Technique, i.e., with spherical SiO2 particles of known radius glued on tipless cantilevers. The deformation curves derived from the force–displacement curves were fitted with Hertz equation for the contact between two spherical particles, which lead to the determination of the elastic modulus of the samples.  相似文献

The heat transfer through a horizontally arranged ceramic fiber insulation operating at high pressure and temperature is studied theoretically. The contributions of heat conduction, natural convection and thermal radiation are considered. With an increasing value of the product of the Rayleigh and Darcy numbers, (Ra, Da), the natural convection is amplified, thus diminishing the efficiency of the thermal insulation. For high temperatures the thermal radiation is no longer negligible. The results of the computer code agree well with experiments available up to a temperature of 670 K and up to a pressure of 40 bar in helium or air. Finally, the heat transfer of a fiber insulation operating under high temperature reactor conditions is predicted, demonstrating that natural convection is nearly suppressed when an insulant bulk density of b = 165 kg/m3 is provided.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: We sought to demonstrate that direct current (DC) shocks to the heart generate free radicals. BACKGROUND: Although it is a lifesaving maneuver, defibrillation is known to have myocardial toxicity. The mechanism of this toxicity is unknown. If DC shocks generate free radicals, free radicals could be a mechanism of myocardial injury. METHODS: In a canine model, DC shocks of 10 to 100 J were delivered to the epicardium of both beating and fibrillating hearts, and 200-J transthoracic shocks were administered in dogs with beating hearts. Ascorbate free radical (AFR) concentration was measured in arterial blood and blood continuously withdrawn from the coronary sinus. In some dogs, the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (15,000 U/kg) and catalase (55,000 U/kg) (SOD/Cat) were administered before shocks. RESULTS: Ascorbate free radicals were generated by DC shocks. A peak AFR increase of 14 +/- 2% (mean +/- SEM) was seen 5 to 6 min after 100-J epicardial shocks. A peak AFR increase of 7 +/- 5% occurred after transthoracic shocks. There was a significant linear relation between the shock energy and peak percent AFR increase: %AFR increase = 0.18 (Shock energy) + 2.9 (r = 0.73, p < 0.0001). Shocks delivered to hearts in ventricular fibrillation (30 s) resulted in generation of AFR equal to but not greater than that observed during similar shocks delivered to beating hearts in sinus rhythm. Multiple successive shocks (100 J delivered twice or five times) did not result in a greater AFR increase than single 100-J shocks, indicating that peak, not cumulative, energy is the principal determinant of AFR increase. Animals receiving SOD/Cat before shock administration showed significant attenuation of the AFR increase. CONCLUSIONS: Direct current epicardial and transthoracic shocks generate free radicals; antioxidant enzymes reduce the free radical generation by shocks.  相似文献

Successful defibrillation depends on delivery of adequate electrical current to the heart; one of the major determinants of current flow is transthoracic resistance (TTR). To study the factors influencing TTR, we prospectively collected data from 44 patients undergoing emergency defibrillation. Shocks of 94-450 J delivered energy were administered from specially calibrated Datascope defibrillators that displayed peak current flow, thereby permitting determination of TTR. Shocks were applied from standard (8.5-cm diameter) or large (13 cm) paddles placed anteriorly and laterally. First-shock TTR ranged from 15-143 omega. There was a weak correlation between TTR and body weight (r = 0.45, p less than 0.05) and a stronger correlation between TTR and chest width (r = 0.80, p less than 0.01). Twenty-three patients who were defibrillated using standard 8.5-cm paddles had a mean TTR of 67 +/- 36 omega (+/- SD), whereas 21 patients who received shocks using paddle pairs with at least one large (13 cm) paddle had a 21% lower TTR of 53 +/- 24 omega (p = 0.05, unpaired t test). Ten patients received first and second shocks at the same energy level; TTR declined only 8%, from 52 +/- 19 to 48 +/- 16 omega (p less than 0.01, paired t test). In closed chest dogs, shocks were administered using a spring apparatus that regulated paddle contact pressure against the thorax. Firmer contact pressure caused TTR to decrease 25%, from 48 +/- 22 to 36 +/- 17 omega (p less than 0.01, paired t test). Thus, human TTR varies widely and is related most closely to chest size. TTR declines only slightly with a second shock at the same energy level. More substantial reductions in TTR and declines only slightly with a second shock at the same energy level. More substantial reductions in TTR and increases in current flow can be achieved by using large paddles and applying firm paddle contact pressure.  相似文献

A Josephson binary counter using single-flux quanta transitions of DC SQUIDs (superconducting quantum interference devices) has been fabricated using an eight-level NbN-based process. High-speed binary division has been demonstrated at 4.2 K, with single-cell counting observed at 60 GHz using the Josephson voltage-to-frequency relationship. Count rate was primarily limited by conservative process and design rules. The counter was designed for operation at 4.2 K. At 8-10 K, the βL of the SQUIDs would not allow operation, though the junction characteristics were good  相似文献

Nowadays, there is a strong trend towards rendering to higher‐resolution displays and at high frame rates. This development aims at delivering more detail and better accuracy, but it also comes at a significant cost. Although graphics cards continue to evolve with an ever‐increasing amount of computational power, the speed gain is easily counteracted by increasingly complex and sophisticated shading computations. For real‐time applications, the direct consequence is that image resolution and temporal resolution are often the first candidates to bow to the performance constraints (e.g. although full HD is possible, PS3 and XBox often render at lower resolutions). In order to achieve high‐quality rendering at a lower cost, one can exploit temporal coherence (TC). The underlying observation is that a higher resolution and frame rate do not necessarily imply a much higher workload, but a larger amount of redundancy and a higher potential for amortizing rendering over several frames. In this survey, we investigate methods that make use of this principle and provide practical and theoretical advice on how to exploit TC for performance optimization. These methods not only allow incorporating more computationally intensive shading effects into many existing applications, but also offer exciting opportunities for extending high‐end graphics applications to lower‐spec consumer‐level hardware. To this end, we first introduce the notion and main concepts of TC, including an overview of historical methods. We then describe a general approach, image‐space reprojection, with several implementation algorithms that facilitate reusing shading information across adjacent frames. We also discuss data‐reuse quality and performance related to reprojection techniques. Finally, in the second half of this survey, we demonstrate various applications that exploit TC in real‐time rendering.  相似文献

When human luminance perception operates close to its absolute threshold, i. e., the lowest perceivable absolute values, appearance changes substantially compared to common photopic or scotopic vision. In particular, most observers report perceiving temporally‐varying noise. Two reasons are physiologically plausible; quantum noise (due to the low absolute number of photons) and spontaneous photochemical reactions. Previously, static noise with a normal distribution and no account for absolute values was combined with blue hue shift and blur to simulate scotopic appearance on a photopic display for movies and interactive applications (e.g., games). We present a computational model to reproduce the specific distribution and dynamics of “scotopic noise” for specific absolute values. It automatically introduces a perceptually‐calibrated amount of noise for a specific luminance level and supports animated imagery. Our simulation runs in milliseconds at HD resolution using graphics hardware and favorably compares to simpler alternatives in a perceptual experiment.  相似文献

We are interested in 3-dimensional images given as arrays of voxels with intensity values. Extending these values to a continuous function, we study the robustness of homology classes in its level and interlevel sets, that is, the amount of perturbation needed to destroy these classes. The structure of the homology classes and their robustness, over all level and interlevel sets, can be visualized by a triangular diagram of dots obtained by computing the extended persistence of the function. We give a fast hierarchical algorithm using the dual complexes of oct-tree approximations of the function. In addition, we show that for balanced oct-trees, the dual complexes are geometrically realized in R3 and can thus be used to construct level and interlevel sets. We apply these tools to study 3-dimensional images of plant root systems.  相似文献
