Natural convection flows are studied numerically for porous media and homogeneous fluids inside a rectangular cavity with inclination. These thermal fluid flows are considered under the respective two-dimensional unsteady Boussinesq approximation in stream function and vorticity variables. The study depends on the Rayleigh number, angle of inclination, and the aspect ratio of the cavity. At the validation stage our results are in good agreement with those reported by other authors. Results suppose to be new are presented either for angles of inclination not reported before or for high Rayleigh numbers with large aspect ratios. In rectangular porous cavities with Rayleigh number 102 multiple cells appear for some angles. In homogeneous fluids, for Rayleigh numbers of the order of 105–106 in large enough vertical cavities at most secondary cells appear for some angles and the flow becomes more complex and looks like to be oscillatory.  相似文献

The durability of an organic color and its resistance against external chemical agents and exposure to light can be significantly enhanced by hybridizing the natural dye with a mineral. In search for stable natural pigments, the present work focuses on the association of indigo blue with several zeolitic matrices (LTA zeolite, mordenite, MFI zeolite). The manufacturing of the hybrid pigment is tested under varying oxidizing conditions, using Raman and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrometric techniques. Blending indigo with MFI is shown to yield the most stable composite in all of our artificial indigo pigments. In the absence of defects and substituted cations such as aluminum in the framework of the MFI zeolite matrix, we show that matching the pore size with the dimensions of the guest indigo molecule is the key factor. The evidence for the high color stability of indigo@MFI opens a new path for modeling the stability of indigo in various alumino-silicate substrates such as in the historical Maya Blue pigment.  相似文献

The concept of significance is fundamental to environmental impact assessment (EIA). Even though there are many guidelines describing technical characteristics of impacts (such as magnitude, geographic extent, extent and frequency) that should be considered, there has remained a long-standing need for increased clarity on how significance determinations are ultimately reached by significance determiners, those who, on behalf of governments, make a legal determination of significance in EIAs. This involves the application of societal values, in the form of subjective informed judgement, about the acceptability of the predicted impacts. This paper introduces the significance spectrum, a graphic model that illustrates a process for determining significance, using the following steps: (1) determining the threshold of significance for each valued component; (2) weighing the evidence and considering predicted impacts; (3) deciding which side of the threshold the predicted adverse impact falls on; and (4) for unacceptable impacts, deciding if mitigations can make the residual impact acceptable. Concepts such as ecological significance should not be confused with significance in EIAs, which may not only include ecological significance but also considers societal values. We provide specific steps for determining significance that help clarify this fundamental aspect that lies at the core of EIA decision-making.  相似文献

The paper reports all-organic strain and stress sensitive films that use electrical monitoring approach. The films were prepared by self-metallizing polycarbonate films with the single component molecular conductor [Au(α-tpdt)2]0 (tpdt = 2,3-thiophenedithiolate). It was shown that [Au(α-tpdt)2]0 by its nature is able to form metallic solid material with low crystallinity. Electromechanical tests demonstrated that the developed films are strain-resistive materials with advanced elastic properties: their electrical resistance varies linearly with uniaxial elongation up to relative strain being of 1.0% that is about five times larger than that for conventional metals. The gauge factor of the films is 4.4 and stress sensitivity is 30 Ω/bar. The processing characteristics of polycarbonate films, self-metalized with a metallic [Au(α-tpdt)2]0-based layer, make them potentially useful for engineering flexible, lightweight, strain and pressure sensors. Due to electromechanical characteristics these films are suited to strain sensing applications requiring miniature strain control in a wide deformation range.  相似文献

Probing contact properties between an ultrathin conjugated polymer film and metal electrodes in field effect transistors (FETs) is crucial not only to understanding charge transport properties in the accumulation layer but also in building organic sensors with high sensitivity. We investigated the contact properties between gold electrodes and poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) as a function of film thickness using gated four-point sheet resistance measurements. In an FET with a 2 nm thick P3HT film, a large voltage drop of 1.9 V (V(D) = -3 V) corresponding to a contact resistance of 2.3 × 10(8) Ω was observed. An effective FET mobility of 1.4 × 10(-3) cm(2)/(V s) was calculated when the voltage drop at the contacts was factored out, which is approximately a factor of 3 greater than the two-contact FET mobility of 5.5 × 10(-4) cm(2)/(V s). A sharp decrease in the ratio of the contact resistance to the channel resistance was observed with increasing film thickness up to a thickness of approximately 6 nm, separating a contact limited regime from a charge transport limited regime. The origin of the large contact resistance observed in the device prepared with an ultrathin P3HT film is discussed in light of results from X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies.  相似文献

The paper describes a study to characterize intentional human dynamic loads (vandal loads) and their induced effects on a footbridge. A numerical model to characterize the dynamic behavior of the footbridge has been developed, is experimentally validated, and is used to numerically simulate the response induced by groups of pedestrians synchronized at critical bridge frequencies. The vandal load associated with a single pedestrian is characterized and compared with definitions in the literature. The response is then calculated considering the measured load and compared with the measured response to the excitation induced by a single pedestrian or a group with varying dimensions. The definition of a general load model for vandal excitation, including a tentative definition for synchronization is discussed.  相似文献

Six‐ and seven‐membered benzo‐fused cyclic homoallylic alcohols can be readily synthesized by a tandem chiral Brønsted acid‐catalyzed allyl (crotyl)boration/ring closing metathesis sequence performed under orthogonal relay catalysis conditions. Excellent enantio‐ and diastereoselectivities are obtained in most of the cases. In addition, the parent crotylboration/RCM process is also described. The required substrates, ortho‐vinylbenzaldehydes, are readily available in one step from commercially available starting materials. Both catalysts and reactants are also available from commercial suppliers. The reaction shows broad functional group compatibility and is also suitable for heteroaromatic substrates. Substitution at any position of the aromatic ring is tolerated; however, substitution at position 6 results in a substantial drop in enantioselectivity.  相似文献

The adsorption process of two dyes as a function of pH on three different adsorbents (goethite, Co-goethite, and magnetite) has been analyzed. Typical anionic adsorption behavior was observed for both dyes onto goethite and Co-goethite. The adsorption level was practically constant in the range of pH studied when the adsorbent was magnetite. The constant capacitance model (CCM) was employed to fit the experimental results. The surface complexes proposed from the adsorption data were in agreement with the patterns obtained from FTIR spectroscopy and a molecular mechanics calculation. Goethite has very good performance as adsorbent of Alizarin and Eriochrome Blue Black R. The presence of a foreign cation in Co-goethite does not improve the adsorption abilities of goethite. At low pH, the amounts of Alizarin and Eriochrome Blue Black R adsorbed on goethite and Co-goethite are similar. However, a higher dependence with the increase of pH is observed by Eriochrome Blue Black R. On magnetite, the dye adsorption shows less affinity for both dyes. Electronic and steric considerations can explain the trends found in the adsorption of the two dyes on the three iron oxides studied in this work.  相似文献

Gymnosporia arenicola Jordaan (Celastraceae) is a shrub or small tree, which naturally occurs in coastal sand dunes of Southern Mozambique and South Africa. Its dried leaf is often used in traditional medicine for the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases. Hereby, we present results of studies carried out according to the pharmacopoeia standards for the identification of herbal drugs, in the whole, fragmented, and powdered plant material. These results were complemented with scanning electron microscopy and histochemical techniques. The leaf microscopic analysis revealed a typical dorsiventral mesophyll with a corresponding spongy parenchyma–palisade parenchyma ratio of 0.60, anomocytic and paracytic stomata, papillate cells with a diameter of 4.00 ± 0.40 µm, multicellular uniseriate nonglandular trichomes with a length of 27.00 ± 4.10 µm and cristalliferous idioblasts containing calcium oxalate cluster crystals with a diameter of 23.04 ± 5.84 µm. The present findings demonstrate that the G. arenicola leaf has both nonglandular trichomes and hypoderm, features not previously described in the corresponding botanical section (Gymnosporia sect. Buxifoliae Jordaan). The establishment of these new botanical markers for the identification of G. arenicola leaf is essential for quality, safety and efficacy reasons. Microsc. Res.
