Conductive polymer composites (CPCs) with pyroresistive behaviour are of interest for a wide variety of applications such as safe batteries, resettable fuses, temperature sensors and self‐regulating heating devices. Due to their ease of processing, low density, tunable electrical properties, good oxidation resistance, and good flexibility and toughness, CPCs have become the preferred choice of pyroresistive materials in a number of applications. The pyroresistive behaviour of CPCs can be tuned to satisfy the specific requirements of different applications. In this perspective paper, recent progress in the use of pyroresistive CPCs is reviewed. In particular, various factors influencing their performance are discussed and compared, in connection with the associated application, with a special focus on reproducibility and positive temperature coefficient intensity levels. Some of the remaining challenges are identified, together with future prospects in this evolving field. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Protein–protein interactions involving disordered partners have unique features and represent prominent targets in drug discovery processes. Intrinsically Disordered Proteins (IDPs) are involved in cellular regulation, signaling and control: they bind to multiple partners and these high-specificity/low-affinity interactions play crucial roles in many human diseases. Disordered regions, terminal tails and flexible linkers are particularly abundant in DNA-binding proteins and play crucial roles in the affinity and specificity of DNA recognizing processes. Protein complexes involving IDPs are short-lived and typically involve short amino acid stretches bearing few “hot spots”, thus the identification of molecules able to modulate them can produce important lead compounds: in this scenario peptides and/or peptidomimetics, deriving from structure-based, combinatorial or protein dissection approaches, can play a key role as hit compounds. Here, we propose a panoramic review of the structural features of IDPs and how they regulate molecular recognition mechanisms focusing attention on recently reported drug-design strategies in the field of IDPs.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a novel interface circuit suitable for the read-out of both wide range floating capacitive and grounded/floating resistive sensors. This solution, employing only two Operational Amplifiers (OAs) as active blocks and some passive components, is based on a square-wave oscillating circuit topology which, instead of a voltage integration typically performed by other solutions in the literature, operates a voltage differentiation. Therefore, the proposed circuit, performing an impedance-to-period (ZT) conversion, results to be suitable as first analog front-end for both wide variation capacitive (e.g., relative humidity) and resistive (e.g., gas) sensors. Its sensitivity and dynamic range can be easily set through external passive components. Preliminary experimental measurements, which have characterized and validated this solution, have been conducted through a suitable prototype PCB fabricated with discrete commercial components. Then, the proposed interface has been also designed at transistor level, in a standard CMOS technology (AMS 0.35 um), developing a single-chip integrated circuit with low-voltage (1.8 V, single supply) low-power (about 350 μW) characteristics in a very small silicon area (lower than 0.6 mm2) which results to be suitable for sensor array configurations and portable applications. Further experimental results, achieved utilizing commercial sample resistors and capacitors to emulate sensor behavior, have shown a linear trend and a satisfactory accuracy in the evaluation of floating capacitive (in the range 10 pF–1 μF), grounded resistive (in the range 150 kΩ–1.5 MΩ) and floating resistive (in the range 10 MΩ–1 GΩ) variations, also when compared to other solutions presented in the literature. The satisfactory interface behavior has been also confirmed by the measurement of both relative humidity through the commercial sensor Honeywell HCH-1000 (capacitive) and carbon monoxide CO through the commercial air quality sensor FIGARO TGS-2600 (resistive).  相似文献

SiC–AlN composites can be pressureless sintered with the addition of rare-earth oxides (RE = Y, Yb, Er, Lu, Ho, Sm, Ce) and without protective powder bed. Sintered bodies showed high density (≥97% T.D.) and were mainly composed by 2H SiC–AlN solid solution with additive containing grain boundary phases. The high temperature strength and oxidation resistance of the composites were also investigated and correlated with the cationic radii of the oxide additives. The flexural strength at 1500 °C increased from 269 MPa to 587 MPa as direct consequence of the rare-earth cationic radius decrease. The specific weight gain during oxidation at 1500 °C for 200 h showed the same behaviour, decreasing from 12.60 mg/cm2 to 3.13 mg/cm2.  相似文献

The neuropeptide Y Y2 receptor is one of six receptor subtypes mediating the multiform physiological actions of neuropeptide Y. The Y2 receptor has been demonstrated to be the most predominant receptor subtype in the human brain and appears to be involved in many neuropeptide Y actions, such as the regulation of locomotor activity, cardiovascular functions, memory processing, circadian rhythms and release of other neurotransmitters. We have recently demonstrated the widespread and abundant distribution of neuropeptide Y Y1 receptor messenger RNA in the human cerebral cortex (different laminar patterns within distinct cortical regions), hippocampal dentate gyrus and striatum. To assess a possible differential distribution of Y1 and Y2 receptor messenger RNAs, the regional expression of neuropeptide Y Y2 messenger RNA-containing cells in the human brain was analysed, in particular within the cerebral cortex and striatum. In situ hybridization experiments revealed the localization of the Y2 messenger RNA signal throughout all cortical regions, with the highest intensity per cell apparent in lamina IV, with the exception of the striate cortex, which showed an intense labelling primarily in layer VI. The striatum expressed low to undetectable levels of the Y2 receptor messenger RNA. The dentate gyrus and the CA2 region presented the highest hybridization signals, while a very weak Y2 messenger RNA expression was found in the CA1 region and subiculum. Positive Y2 messenger RNA hybridization signals were also detected in the lateral geniculate nucleus, amygdala, substantia nigra, hypothalamus, cerebellum and choroid plexus. These results demonstrate the widespread distribution of neuropeptide Y Y2 receptor messenger RNA in the human brain, with a pattern of expression distinct from the Y1 subtype, suggesting that these two receptor subtypes may mediate different neuropeptide Y functions in the human brain, mainly through actions on different neuronal systems.  相似文献

The implementation of Monte Carlo dose calculation algorithms in clinical radiotherapy treatment planning systems has been anticipated for many years. Despite a continuous increase of interest in Monte Carlo Treatment Planning (MCTP), its introduction into clinical practice has been delayed by the extent of calculation time required. The development of newer and faster MC codes is behind the commercialisation of the first MC-based treatment planning systems. The intended scope of this article is to provide the reader with a compact 'primer' on different approaches to MCTP with particular attention to the latest developments in the field.  相似文献

Singlet molecular oxygen is a reactive oxygen species that plays an important role in a number of biological processes, both as a signalling agent and as an intermediate involved in oxidative degradation reactions. Singlet oxygen is commonly generated by the so-called photosensitization process wherein a light-absorbing molecule, the sensitizer, transfers its energy of excitation to ground-state oxygen to make singlet oxygen. This process forms the basis of photodynamic therapy, for example, where light, a sensitizer, and oxygen are used to initiate cell death and ultimately destroy undesired tissue. Although the photosensitized production of singlet oxygen has been studied and used in biologically pertinent systems for years, the photoinitiated behaviour is often indiscriminate and difficult to control. In this Concept, we discuss new ideas and results in which spatial and temporal control of photosensitized singlet oxygen production can be implemented through the incorporation of the sensitizer into a conjugate system that selectively responds to certain triggers or stimuli.  相似文献
