POLARISCOPIC EXAMINATION OF GLASS CONTAINER SECTIONS*

The ring-section technique has been studied by the Standard Testing Procedure Committee of the Glass Container Association, and a tentative Standard Method of Examining and Grading Glass Container Ring Sections is proposed. The scope, method, and frequency of sampling, method of examination, and the methods used for ware-quality grading and glass-quality grading are described.     

GosiP: A GKS3D Shell for PHIGS

Gosip is an implementation of a GKS-3D level 2c interface to PHIGS. It allows GKS applications to run on PHIGS platforms, offering performance and portability across a wide range of high-performance 3D workstations. Compatibility of the standards is reviewed. A selection of design solutions is given for the problems of error processing, non-retained primitives and attribute management. The concepts of Workstation Display Session and atmbute state are introduced. Some comments are made on implementation dependencies, performance and portability.     

COLEMANITE AS GLAZE MATERIAL1

Experiments were made to find a natural frit which would replace lead and eliminate fritting. Colemanite supplemented by kryolith was found satisfactory, at least at certain temperatures.     

CHARACTERISTIC INTERFERENCE PATTERNS OF PLATE AND WINDOW GLASS*

An optical setup for photographing the interference patterns of a piece of flat glass is described, and photographs of characteristic patterns for several samples of plate and window glass are reproduced. Such photographs identify an unknown piece of glass as plate glass or window glass and also reveal information as to its flatness and optical polish.

Planning for urban forestry at the municipal level

Abstract

The goods and services produced by urban forests can benefit both urban and rural communities. But there is a need to incorporate urban forests as integral and formal components into municipal planning programmes. The case is presented to indicate that significant municipal savings could be possible in establishing urban forests. Such forests are for the needs of the community, and can provide food, shelter belts, enjoyment, products, and employment, especially with labour-intensive management. The establishment of an urban forest is discussed with particular reference to a ‘model’ urban forest in Moore Park, Sydney. Suggestions are offered for future municipal action in establishing urban forests.     

专家委员会工作总结

1995年,在协会第八次会员大会上，我们将原顾问委员会和咨询委员会合并组建了中国氯碱工业协会专家委员会，其成员组成除原顾委和咨委中有专长，身体较好能胜任工作的顾问外，新增加了企业和政府有关部门中有一定知名度的现职技术，经济和管理专家，为发挥各个专家的专长，便于今后开展活动，根据协会开展工作的实际需要，组建了“氯碱经济政策研究组“，“氯碱发展战略研究组”，“氯碱生产技术研究组”，“现代企业管理研究组”和“氯碱信息编著组”等6个专业研究组，而后根据形势需要，又成立了“氯碱市场营销策略研究组”，“石化原料专题组”和“电力及价格研究组”，这些专业组的组建为专家委员会开展工作奠定了组织基础。     

发展电子商务,推进国家信息化

电子商务概念和内涵不断地充实和扩展，已成为当前信息化的重要内容，并推动着工业社会向信息社会转变。因此，通过电子商务，以服务带动产品，已成为为业界领头企业的发展战略。我国要根据自己的国情，积极稳妥地推进电子商务在我国的发展。上关政策和措施即将出台试点工作正在展开，认证机构等相关部门及配套法律正在研究和建设之中。
