Anode region design and focusing properties of STAR silicon drift detectors

Electron collection at the anodes of large-area silicon drift detectors was studied with STAR2 prototypes. Results of measurements of anode leakage currents, signal dependence on focusing voltages, anode uniformity, and model simulations are reported. A design of the anode region is presented. The design optimization is discussed.     

Towards a performance theory of robust adaptive control

We consider standard robust adaptive control designs based on the dead‐zone and projection modifications, and compare their performance w.r.t. a worst case transient cost functional penalizing the ??^∞ norm of the output, control and control derivative. If a bound on the ??^∞ norm of the disturbance is known, it is shown that the dead‐zone controller outperforms the projection controller if the a priori information on the uncertainty level is sufficiently conservative. The second result shows that the projection controller is superior to the dead‐zone controller when the a priori information on the disturbance level is sufficiently conservative. For conceptual clarity the results are presented on a non‐linear scalar system with a single uncertain parameter and generalizations are briefly discussed. Biological production of semisynthetic opiates using genetically engineered bacteria

Semisynthetic derivatives of morphine and related alkaloids are in widespread clinical use. Due to the complexity of these molecules, however, chemical transformations are difficult to achieve in high yields. We recently identified the powerful analgesic hydromorphone as an intermediate in the metabolism of morphine by Pseudomonas putida M10. Here we describe the construction of recombinant strains of Escherichia coli that express morphine dehydrogenase and morphinone reductase. These strains are capable of efficiently transforming the naturally occurring alkaloids morphine and codeine to hydromorphone and the antitussive hydrocodone, respectively. Our results demonstrate the potential for recombinant DNA technology to provide biological routes for the synthesis of known and novel semisynthetic opiate drugs.

2014年1-6月我国胶鞋行业的经济运行平稳,我国胶鞋出口单价有所提高。近年来我国胶鞋行业供大于求的局面加剧,胶鞋企业向东南亚以及我国中西部地区转移。我国胶鞋的进口单价仍远高于出口单价,美国一直是我国胶鞋出口量和出口额第一的国家。调整产品结构、逐步转型升级、打造品牌竞争力是我国胶鞋行业发展的必由之路。     

Photothermal nanoblade for large cargo delivery into mammalian cells

It is difficult to achieve controlled cutting of elastic, mechanically fragile, and rapidly resealing mammalian cell membranes. Here, we report a photothermal nanoblade that utilizes a metallic nanostructure to harvest short laser pulse energy and convert it into a highly localized explosive vapor bubble, which rapidly punctures a lightly contacting cell membrane via high-speed fluidic flows and induced transient shear stress. The cavitation bubble pattern is controlled by the metallic structure configuration and laser pulse duration and energy. Integration of the metallic nanostructure with a micropipet, the nanoblade generates a micrometer-sized membrane access port for delivering highly concentrated cargo (5 × 10(8) live bacteria/mL) with high efficiency (46%) and cell viability (>90%) into mammalian cells. Additional biologic and inanimate cargo over 3-orders of magnitude in size including DNA, RNA, 200 nm polystyrene beads, to 2 μm bacteria have also been delivered into multiple mammalian cell types. Overall, the photothermal nanoblade is a new approach for delivering difficult cargo into mammalian cells.

生产与出口同步增长——非金属矿行业2003年上半年发展形势分析与展望
