A ‘tubeless syphon’ was used as an elongational viscometer for the purpose of measuring elongational viscosities of glass bead suspensions in dilute polymer solutions. It was found that while the shear viscosities increased, the elongational viscosities decreased very sharply with increasing bead concentration. The conclusions from the present data are then compared with the observed changes in the elastic properties of two phase molten polymer systems. A double shift procedure has been successfully adopted to correlate the experimental data.  相似文献

Intercalated nanocomposites with poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) incorporated between the montmorillonite layers were synthesized from dimethyl terephthalate and 1,4-butane diol by using an in situ interlayer polymerization. The PBT nanocomposites were melt-spun at different organoclay contents to produce monofilaments. The samples were characterized by using wide angle X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, thermal analysis, and tensile testing. The extent of the clay layer in the PBT was confirmed by using X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy, and the clay layer was found to be highly dispersed on a nanometer scale. The addition of only a small amount of organoclay was enough to improve the thermo-mechanical properties of the PBT hybrid fibers. The hybrids were extruded with various draw ratios (DRs) to examine the tensile mechanical property of the fibers. At DR=1, the ultimate tensile strength of the hybrid fibers increased with the addition of clay up to a critical content and then decreased. However, the initial modulus monotonically increased with increasing amount of organoclay in the PBT matrix. When the DR was increased from 1 to 6, for example, the strength and the initial modulus values of the hybrids containing 3 wt% organoclay decreased linearly.  相似文献

A method is described for sintering of highly loaded (≤20 vol%) alumina matrix/silicon carbide whisker or platelet composites to closed porosity. The method uses controlled heterogeneous precipitation in a suspension of whiskers or platelets. The suspension-coated particles are calcined to produce a free-flowing composite powder which can be hot-pressed or free-sintered to high density. The results of consolidation and mechanical property testing are reported.  相似文献

Non-Markovian diffusion transport in polymers was studied. Applying the results of various researchers, a stretched exponential relaxation function was obtained and a linear viscoelastic constitutive equation formulated. Frequency dependent material functions, obtained from this constitutive equation were studied and the results successfully compared with experimental data for polyethylene oxide solutions. New equipment and procedures for chemical and microbiological tests, simulating biogenic sulfuric acid corrosion in sewerage systems, are presented. Subsequent steps of immersion and drying, combined with mechanical abrasion, were applied to simulate events occurring in sewer systems. Both chemical and microbiological tests showed that the aggregate type had the largest effect on degradation. Concrete with limestone aggregates showed a smaller degradation depth than did the concrete with inert aggregates. The limestone aggregates locally created a buffering environment, protecting the cement paste. This was confirmed by microscopic analysis of the eroded surfaces. The production method of concrete pipes influenced durability through its effect on W/C ratio and water absorption values. In the microbiological tests, HSR Portland cement concrete performed slightly better than did the slag cement concrete. A possible explanation can be a more rapid colonisation by microorganisms of the surface of slag cement samples. A new method for degradation prediction was suggested based on the parameters alkalinity and water absorption (as a measure for concrete porosity).  相似文献
