Additive manufacturing, sometimes referred to as 3D printing is a new, rapidly developing technology which has the potential to revolutionize fabrication of certain high value, complex products. Until now conventional elastomers have not been widely used in the additive manufacturing process. The goal of our work was to determine the feasibility of additive manufacturing using ink jet printing of elastomeric latex materials. Particle size, viscosity, and surface tension were measured for five different latex materials—poly(2‐chloro‐1,3‐butadiene), carboxylated styrene‐butadiene rubber, carboxylated butadiene‐acrylonitrile copolymer, natural rubber, and prevulcanized natural rubber. The XSBR latex was predicted as the one most likely to be printable. Printing trials carried out with the XSBR as the ink proved it to be printable, although technical problems of agglomeration and print head clogging need to be addressed and both the material and process need to be optimized for consistent printing to be achieved. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Noncompliance is a common problem exhibited by children with developmental delay (DD; Walker, 1993). The authors evaluated whether performance on the Assessment of Basic Learning Abilities (ABLA) test would predict compliance of children with and without DD to instructions alone (IA) versus instructions with modelling and/or gestures (IMG) administered by their caregivers. The ABLA test uses standard prompting and reinforcement procedures to assess the ease or difficulty with which a testee is able to learn a simple imitation and five two-choice discriminations. Twenty-one children without DD and 16 children with DD were presented with five age-appropriate educational tasks by their respective caregivers in a structured teaching session that included IA on some trials and IMG on others. The ABLA test performance reliably predicted the compliance of the children in the two conditions, and the results were consistent across both groups. The results are important for providing information to caregivers on how best to instruct their children in an effort to increase compliance. Electron beam x-ray tomography is an imaging technique, which can provide cross-sectional images of an object of interest with about 1 mm spatial resolution at frame rates of up to 10,000 frames per second. As a non-intrusive method it is especially suited for studying multiphase flows. For this purpose we devised an experimental limited-angle scan setup which utilizes linear beam deflection to generate radiographic projections. This setup was employed in the study of gas–liquid flow in an experimental flow loop operated at different liquid and gas flow rates. Electron-beam tomography images were compared with image data of a wire-mesh sensor. The latter is a fast but intrusive imaging device which is commonly used in gas–liquid flow imaging and achieves comparable frame rates but at lower spatial resolution. As a novelty we implemented a dual-plane limited-angle electron beam x-ray tomography which allows us to gain information about the phase velocities using cross-correlation data analysis. 相似文献

Color improvement of commercial C9 hydrocarbon resin (c‐C9HR) and prepared C9 hydrocarbon resin (p‐C9HR) has been investigated under various hydrogenation conditions over 2% Pd/γ‐alumina catalysts. The degrees of aromatic rings hydrogenation (DHs) and molecular structure of resin were determined from nuclear magnetic resonance of 1H and 13C (1H‐NMR and 13C‐NMR) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analyses. The starting c‐C9HR presented in yellow color (Gardner color No. 8.4). Under the hydrogenation conditions used (H2 pressure 70 bar, 250°C, and 8 h), the ethylenic proton in c‐C9HR was completely removed, but the aromatic rings content remained unaltered and very little change in resin color was observed (Gardner color No.8.1). On the other hand, the starting p‐C9HR contained only unsaturated aromatic proton with Gardner color No.17.1. Under similar conditions, aromatic rings in p‐C9HR were converted to alicyclic rings, and its color was reduced to Gardner color No.5.7. By varying the DH of aromatics in p‐C9HR, two‐step decolorization was observed in which at lower DH (≤10%) the color decreased sharply from 17.1 to 9.3, while further color reduction to 5.7 was obtained when the DH was increased to 94%. It is suggested that both color body and aromatic rings were the main sources contributing to C9HR color. Emu oil is derived from the emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae), which originated in Australia, and has been reported to have anti-inflammatory properties. Inflammation was induced in
anesthetized CD-1 mice by applying 50 μL of 2% croton oil to the inner surface of the left ear. After 2 h, the area was treated
with 5μL of emu, fish, flaxseed, olive, or liquified chicken fat, or left untreated. Animals were euthanized at 6 h postapplication
of different oils, and earplugs (FP) and plasma samples were collected. Inflammation was evaluated by change in earlobe thickness,
increase in weight of EP tissue (compared to the untreated ear), and induction in cytokines interleukin (IL)-1α and tumor
necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in EP homogenates. Al-though reductions relative to control (croton oil) were noted for all treatments,
auricular thickness and EP weights were, significantly reduced (−72 and −71%, respectively) only in the emu oil-treated group.
IL-1α levels in homogenates of auricular tissue were significantly reduced in the fish oil (−57%) and emu oil (−70%) groups
relative to the control group. The cytokine TNF-α from auricular homogenates was significantly reduced in the olive oil (−52%)
and emu oil (−60%) treatment groups relative to the control group. Plasma cytokine levels were not changed by croton oil treatment.
Although auricular thickness and weight were significantly correlated with each other (r=0.750, P<0.003), auricular thickness but not weight was significantly correlated with cytokine IL-1α (r=0.750, P<0.006) and TNF-α (r=0.690, P<0.02). These studies indicate that topical emu oil has anti-inflammatory properties in the CD-1 mouse that are associated
with decreased auricular thickness and weight, and with the cytokines IL-1α and TNF-α. 相似文献

In this paper, we report first principles calculations and experimental studies of the optical and microstructural properties of both bulk and thin films of SrCu2O2. Polycrystalline SrCu2O2 films were grown by a conventional Pulsed Laser Deposition method in a flowing oxygen environment on corning glass 7059 and silicon substrates. Several characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform IR (FTIR), Raman, spectroscopic ellipsometry, reflectance/transmission spectrophotometry and Atomic Force Microscopy have been used for the investigation of the microstructural and vibrational properties of both bulk and thin films of SrCu2O2.XRD shows that bulk SrCu2O2 is polycrystalline and assumes the pure tetragonal phase of SrCu2O2. The vibrational properties of the tetragonal phase of SrCu2O2 have been inferred from Raman and FTIR spectroscopies and for the first time both Raman and IR active modes have been assigned. The bulk polycrystalline SrCu2O2 optical band gap determined from spectroscopic ellipsometry was 3.34 ± 0.01 eV. XRD results confirmed that pure non-textured polycrystalline phase SrCu2O2 thin films with a smooth surface can be grown by PLD at low temperature (300 °C). 相似文献

This is a review of work carried at Dow Chemical on the design and characterization of novel mordenite catalysts with a unique
micro and meso-porous structure characterized by a variety of methods including, TEM, BET surface area and pore size distribution,
and n-decane hydro-conversion. The catalytic performance of these catalysts in shape selective reactions is illustrated with results
from n-decane hydro-conversion and applications to alkylation and trans-alkylation reactions of mono and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons and other chemistries.
