The general mixed μ problem has been shown to be NP hard, so that the exact solution of the general problem is computationally intractable, except for small problems. In this paper we consider not the general problem, but a particular special case of this problem, the rank one mixed μ problem. We show that for this case the mixed μ problem is equivalent to its upper bound (which is convex), and it can in fact be computed easily (and exactly). This special case is shown to be equivalent to the so-called ‘affine parameter variation’ problem (for a polynomial with perturbed coefficients) which has been examined in detail in the literature, and for which several celebrated ‘Kharitonov-type’ results have been proven. 相似文献

Measurements of local velocity, density, and mass flow of phases of a gas-solid suspension are needed in determining transport properties, validating theoretical predictions, and formulating design procedures. Most of the available instruments are based on time averages or fluctuations with time. Primary standard for direct measurement of density of a phase such as solid particles is being developed. A laser phase Doppler device, within certain restrictions, may give local instantaneous density, while other optical methods and neutron beam remain secondary standards based on mass flow calibrations. An overall review including recent results has been made on both intrusive and non-intrusive instruments; their limitations and future possibilities are outlined and discussed. The limitations of the traditional approach utilizing the triangular relation between local averages of mass flow, velocity, and density of particles for the determination of flow properties, and higher order correlations are demonstrated. 相似文献

An engineered fusion protein containing two tandem lactose permease molecules (permease dimer) exhibits high transport activity and is used to test the phenomenon of negative dominance. Introduction of the mutation Glu-325-->Cys into either the first or the second half of the dimer results in a 50% decrease in activity, whereas introduction of the mutation into both halves of the dimer abolishes transport. Lactose transport by permease dimer is completely inactivated by N-ethylmaleimide; however, 40-45% activity is retained after N-ethylmaleimide treatment when either the first or the second half of the dimer is replaced with a mutant devoid of cysteine residues. The observations demonstrate that both halves of the fusion protein are equally active and suggest that each half may function independently. To test the possibility that oligomerization between dimers might account for the findings, a permease dimer was constructed that contains two different deletion mutants that complement functionally when expressed as untethered molecules. Because this construct does not catalyze lactose transport to any extent whatsoever, it is unlikely that the two halves of the dimer interact or that there is an oligomeric interaction between dimers. Researchers from Rutgers University and Clemson University have collaborated to develop a concept of using smart blending to generate functional packaging films for the controlled release of active compounds such as antimicrobials, antioxidants and flavour compounds to extend the shelf‐life of food. In this paper, literature results are reviewed to justify the significance of controlled release packaging (CRP) and the research gaps for further development are identified. A major research gap is the lack of packaging materials that can provide the release of active compounds at rates suitable for a wide range of food packaging applications. Smart blending is a promising technology for bridging this research gap. The hybrid χ (Chi) formalism integrates concepts from dynamics and control theory with concepts from computer science, in particular from process algebra and hybrid automata. It integrates ease of modeling with a straightforward, structured operational semantics. Its ‘consistent equation semantics’ enforces state changes to be consistent with delay predicates, that combine the invariant and flow clauses of hybrid automata. Ease of modeling is ensured by means of the following concepts: (1) different classes of variables: discrete and continuous, of subclass jumping or non-jumping, and algebraic; (2) strong time determinism of alternative composition in combination with delayable guards; (3) integration of urgent and non-urgent actions; (4) differential algebraic equations as a process term as in mathematics; (5) steady-state initialization; and 6) several user-friendly syntactic extensions. Furthermore, the χ formalism incorporates several concepts for complex system specification: (1) process terms for scoping that integrate abstraction, local variables, local channels and local recursion definitions; (2) process definition and instantiation that enable process re-use, encapsulation, hierarchical and/or modular composition of processes; and (3) different interaction mechanisms: handshake synchronization and synchronous communication that allow interaction between processes without sharing variables, and shared variables that enable modular composition of continuous-time or hybrid processes. Measurements in the CROCUS reactor at EPFL, Lausanne, are reported for the critical water level and the inverse reactor period for several different sets of delayed supercritical conditions. The experimental configurations were also calculated by four different calculation methods. For each of the supercritical configurations, the absolute reactivity value has been determined in two different ways, viz.: (i) through direct comparison of the multiplication factor obtained employing a given calculation method with the corresponding value for the critical case (calculated reactivity: ρcalc); (ii) by application of the inhour equation using the kinetic parameters obtained for the critical configuration and the measured inverse reactor period (measured reactivity: ρmeas). The calculated multiplication factors for the reference critical configuration, as well as ρcalc for the supercritical cases, are found to be in good agreement. However, the values of ρmeas produced by two of the applied calculation methods differ appreciably from the corresponding ρcalc values, clearly indicating deficiencies in the kinetic parameters obtained from these methods. 相似文献

Reuse of wastewater is regarded as one important way to deal with the world's shortage of potable water. The authors focused on a disinfection system using micro-bubbles and evaluated its capability for wastewater reuse. This paper reports experimental results from examination of the basic characteristics of micro-bubbles and disinfection of secondary effluent by air or ozone micro-bubbles. The results suggest that when micro-bubbles are applied in an ozonation system it is possible to reduce the reactor size, the amount of ozone decomposition equipment needed and the ozone dose rate. 相似文献
