Manganese was incorporated into silica matrix of TUD-1 using tetraethylene glycol (TEG) as the template. Three samples with Si/Mn ratio of 115, 44 and 18 were prepared and characterized by various techniques. MnTUD-1 is shown to be mesoporous with tetrahedrally coordinated Mn when Si/Mn?=?115; and nano-particles of manganese oxides are visible at higher loading of manganese (Si/Mn?=?44 and 18). The catalytic activity of MnTUD-1 was explored in the liquid-phase oxidation of ethylbenzene with tert-butylhydroperoxide (TBHP) as oxidant. Influence of various reaction parameters such as time, Si/Mn ratio, oxidant and solvent were studied. Finally the catalytic activity also compared with well-known microporous and mesoporous catalysts like MnAlPO-5, Mn containing MCM-41, MCM-48 and SBA-15.  相似文献

This paper deals with reliability measures for two-unit systems with a repair facility assuming that the failure times and the repair time follow a trivariate exponential distribution of Marshall and Olkin, J. Amer. Statist. Assoc., 1967, 62, 30–44. The case where the system down-time is observed, is also discussed. The system reliability and system mean-time before failure are evaluated for standby and parallel systems. When the down-time is observed the system availability, steady-state availability and the system mean down-time are evaluated for standby, parallel and series systems.  相似文献

Virtual reality (VR) has been making inroads into medicine in a broad spectrum of applications, including medical education, surgical training, telemedicine, surgery and the treatment of phobias and eating disorders. The extensive and innovative applications of VR in medicine, made possible by the rapid advancements in information technology, have been driven by the need to reduce the cost of healthcare while enhancing the quality of life for human beings.In this paper, we discuss the design, development and realisation of an innovative technology known as the Georgia Tech Wearable Motherboard (GTWM), or the Smart Shirt. The principal advantage of GTWM is that it provides, for the first time, a very systematic way of monitoring the vital signs of humans in an unobtrusive manner. The flexible databus integrated into the structure transmits the information to monitoring devices such as an EKG machine, a temperature recorder, a voice recorder, etc. GTWM is lightweight and can be worn easily by anyone, from infants to senior citizens. We present the universal characteristics of the interface pioneered by the Georgia Tech Wearable Motherboard and explore the potential applications of the technology in areas ranging from combat to geriatric care. The GTWM is the realisation of a personal information processing system that gives new meaning to the termubiquitous computing. Just as the spreadsheet pioneered the field of information processing that brought computing to the masses, it is anticipated that the Georgia Tech Wearable Motherboard will bring personalised and affordable healthcare monitoring to the population at large.  相似文献

The effects of site-specific mutation of the axial cysteine (C357M) to a methionine residue in cytochrome P450cam on the enzyme's coordination geometry and redox potential have been investigated. The absorption spectra of the haem centre in the C357M mutant of the enzyme showed close similarity to those of cytochrome c both in the oxidised and reduced forms. A well-defined absorption peak at 695 nm, similar to that seen in the case of cytochrome c and characteristic of methionine ligation to the ferric haem, was observed. The results indicated that the haem of C357M cytochrome P450cam is possibly axially coordinated to a methionine and a histidine, analogously to cytochrome c. The circular dichroism spectra in the visible and the far-UV regions suggested that the tertiary structure of the haem cavity in the C357M mutant cytochrome P450cam was distinctly different from that in the wild-type enzyme or in cytochrome c, although the secondary structure of the mutant remained identical to that of the wild-type cytochrome P450cam. Comparison of the natures of the CD spectra in the 400 nm and 695 nm regions of the C357M mutant of cytochrome P450cam with those of horse cytochrome c suggested (R) chirality at the sulfur atom of the iron-bound methionine residue in the mutant. The redox potential of the haem centre, estimated by redox titration of the C357M mutant, was found to be +260 mV, which is much higher than that in the wild-type enzyme and similar to the redox potential of cytochrome c. This supported the concept that axial ligation of the haem plays the major role in tuning the redox potential of the haem centre in haem proteins.  相似文献

By considering the interoccurrence distribution of a multivariate renewal process to be multivariate exponential [Marshall and Olkin, J. Am. statist. Ass.62, 30–44 (1967)] it is shown that the marginal distributions arc independent if and only if the associated counting process has independent marginals. In the general case, it is observed that the interoccurrence distribution has pairwise independent marginals if and only if the counting process has pairwise independent marginals.  相似文献

This study was aimed to evaluate the effect on spermatogenesis of a 62 kDa protein (Rp) isolated from 50% ethanolic extract of the root of Ricinus communis in mice. A dose response study in mice revealed that 25mg/kg body weight/day was the most effective dose. Swiss strain mature male mice of 30 days old were divided into two group namely control and Rp treated (25mg/kg body weight/day). The study showed that sperm motility and count were decreased significantly in the treated group as compared to the control. The fertility index of the treated groups was reduced by 100%. The activity of HMG Co A reductase and cholesterol were increased significantly in the treated group. The testicular activities of 3βHSD, 17βHSD, glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase and malic enzyme and the level of serum testosterone were decreased significantly in the treated group. The expression of 3βHSD and 17βHSD were decreased and the expression of StAR increased significantly in the treated group as compared to the control. Proteolytic digestion of the native protein with trypsin and chymotrypsin showed that the proteolytic cleavage did not affect the spermicidal action of Rp. Hence this study can be concluded that Rp impaired spermatogenesis in vivo by suppressing the production of testosterone.  相似文献

Cutting fluids play a significant role in machining operations, impact shop productivity, tool life and quality of work. The reduction in the consumption rate of the cutting fluid leads to the minimization of production cost and environmental hazards. This could be achieved by the enhancement of its thermal and tribological properties with the inclusion of suitable additives in the cutting fluid. In recent years various nanoparticles were used as additives in the conventional cutting fluid to enhance its properties. In the present work, silver nanoparticles was synthesized, characterized, dispersed in cutting fluid and experimented in a turning operation. Heat carrying capacities of the cutting fluid, cutting forces during machining process and surface finish of the work piece were assessed by suitable instruments for cutting fluids with and without silver nanoparticles under different machining conditions. From the experimental results, it was observed that inclusion of silver nanoparticles in cutting fluid showed a significant reduction in tool tip temperature, cutting force and surface roughness of the work piece.  相似文献

An advanced understanding of sperm function is relevant for evidence-based male fertility prediction and addressing male infertility. A standard breeding soundness evaluation (BSE) merely identifies gross abnormalities in bulls, whereas selection based on single nucleotide polymorphisms and genomic estimated breeding values overlooks sub-microscopic differences in sperm. Molecular tools are important for validating genomic selection and advancing knowledge on the regulation of male fertility at an interdisciplinary level. Therefore, research in this field is now focused on developing a combination of in vitro sperm function tests and identifying biomarkers such as sperm proteins with critical roles in fertility. The Na+-K+ ATPase is a ubiquitous transmembrane protein and its α4 isoform (ATP1A4) is exclusively expressed in germ cells and sperm. Furthermore, ATP1A4 is essential for male fertility, as it interacts with signaling molecules in both raft and non-raft fractions of the sperm plasma membrane to regulate capacitation-associated signaling, hyperactivation, sperm-oocyte interactions, and activation. Interestingly, ATP1A4 activity and expression increase during capacitation, challenging the widely accepted dogma of sperm translational quiescence. This review discusses the literature on the role of ATP1A4 during capacitation and fertilization events and its prospective use in improving male fertility prediction.  相似文献
