A series of well‐defined amphiphilic poly[(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate)‐block‐(N‐phenylmaleimide)] diblock copolymers containing hydrophilic and hydrophobic blocks of different lengths were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization. The properties of the diblock copolymers and their ability to form large compound spherical micelles are described. Their optical, morphological and thermal properties and self‐assembled structure were also investigated. The chemical structure and composition of these copolymers have been characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR, UV–visible and fluorescence spectroscopy, and size exclusion chromatography. Furthermore, the self‐assembly behavior of these copolymers was investigated by transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering, which indicated that the amphiphilic diblock copolymer can self‐assemble into micelles, depending on the length of both blocks in the copolymers. These diblock copolymers gave rise to a variety of microstructures, from spherical micelles, hexagonal cylinders to lamellar phases. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

Epidemiological studies have shown the effect of nutritional status of tocopherols and development of cardiovascular diseases that now are more frequent during early years of life. In this work we evaluated the association between the total cholesterol and serum levels of tocopherols in a population of Mexican children in whom we measured the oxidant status and antioxidant capacity (December 2003). In 1155 children (12-59 months) residents of urban and rural locations we quantified in serum alpha-tocopherol, gamma-tocopherol and total cholesterol; the antioxidant capacity and oxidative status were evaluated with the production of TBARS. Children with serum cholesterol < 170 mg/dL had an average of 472.5 +/- 179.6 microg/dL tocopherol in serum and > or = 240 mg/dL cholesterol recorded an average of 577.3 +/- 200.8 microg/dL. However, when tocopherols were expressed in relation to total cholesterol (micromol/mmol) found that children with < 170 mg/dL had the highest ratios (3.06 +/-1.19) which places them in an adequate nutritional status of tocopherol, unlike the group with > or = 240 mg/dL of cholesterol in whom the relationship was low (1.93 +/- 0.69). There were no differences in serum antioxidant capacity, but if in the production of TBARS for children with > or = 200 mg/dL cholesterol. In preschools the increases in total cholesterol limits the availability of serum tocopherol for circulating lipids, this condition over time could determine the early development of vascular injury mediated by oxidative stress. 相似文献

The impact of linamarin and lotaustralin content in the leaves of lima beans, Phaseolus lunatus L., on the second and third trophic levels was studied in the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae (Koch), and its predator Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot. The content of linamarin was higher in terminal trifoliate leaves (435.5 ppm) than in primary leaves (142.1 ppm)
of Henderson bush lima beans. However, linamarin concentrations were reversed at the second trophic level showing higher concentrations
in spider mites feeding on primary leaves (429.8 ppm) than those feeding on terminal trifoliate leaves (298.2 ppm). Concentrations
of linamarin in the predatory mites were 18.4 and 71.9 ppm when feeding on spider mites grown on primary and terminal leaves,
respectively. The concentration of lotaustralin in primary lima bean leaves was 103.12 ppm, and in spider mites feeding on
these leaves was 175.0 ppm. Lotaustralin was absent in lima bean terminal trifoliate leaves and in mites feeding on these
leaves. Fecundity of spider mites feeding on lima bean leaves (primary or trifoliate) was not significantly different from
mites feeding on red bean, Phaseolus vulgaris L., primary leaves. However, the progeny sex ratio (in females per male) of spider mites feeding on lima bean leaves was
significantly lower than progeny of spider mites feeding on red bean leaves (control). Fecundity and progeny sex ratio of
P. persimilis were both significantly affected by the concentration of linamarin present in the prey. Changes in concentration of linamarin

This study was undertaken to determine the effect of dietary supplementation of sunflower seed in cows on the chemical composition of milk and dairy products. Cream, butter and butter oil were prepared from milk produced by cows fed a control diet (control products) or diet supplemented with 11.2% sunflour seed (CLA-rich products). Milk samples collected were determined for lactose. A sample of CLA-rich or control product was determined for fatty acid profile as well as fat, protein and ash contents. The index of atherogenicity (IA) and the index of thrombogenicity (IT) were also calculated. Results revealed that there was no effect of the inclusion of sunflower seed in the diet on the lactose content in milk and total fat, protein and ash contents in the dairy products. Average contents of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and transvaccenic acid (TVA), expressed as g/100g total fatty acid were 0.54 and 1.6, respectively in the control products, and 2 and 6.4, respectively in the CLA-rich products. The content of either CLA or TVA was approximately four fold higher in the latter products. Moreover, CLA-rich products showed considerably low IA and IT, which were, respectively, 38.4 and 25.0% less than those from control products. Fatty acid profiles were unaffected during processing, which demonstrates that CLA is a stable component in the dairy products analyzed. It was concluded that dietary supplementation of sunflower seed in cows increases the CLA and TVA contents in milk, which may contribute to the reduction of the risk of cardiovascular diseases in humans. 相似文献

Winey-vinegary sensory defect was evaluated in virgin olive oil samples from a sensory and chemical point of view. Qualitative
and quantitative differences were found in the profile of volatiles of extra-virgin olive oil samples without sensory defects
and samples with high intensities of winey-vinegary sensory attribute. Several volatile compounds were found to be correlated
to winey-vinegary sensory defect in virgin olive oils, acetic acid and ethyl acetate having correlation coefficients of 0.98
and 0.94 respectively. A synthetic sample was obtained with the sensory characteristics of the winey defect. Samples with
low values of winey sensory defect were also studied and the evaluation of the presence of the defect using the content of
four volatile compounds only was demonstrated.

Nanoparticles of magnetite passivated with gelatin and starch were synthesised using a co‐precipitation technique. The nanoparticles were characterised using ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis), dynamic light scattering (DLS), Zeta potential, transmission electron microscope (TEM), X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The UV–vis spectra showed characteristic surface plasmon resonance of magnetite nanoparticles. The DLS results showed the nanoparticles to have average hydrodynamic diameters of 138 ± 2 and 283 ± 21 nm for particles passivated with gelatin and starch, respectively. The stability in a colloidal solution was greater in nanoparticles passivated with gelatin than nanoparticles obtained with starch, as can be seen by their Zeta potential value (−31 ± 2 and −16 ± 0.5 mV, respectively). According to the TEM evaluation, the use of gelatin allowed to obtain nanoparticles with a spherical morphology and an average size of 10 ± 2 nm. However, when using starch the nanoparticles exhibited diverse morphologies with an average size of 25 ± 7 nm. The XRD results confirmed the crystalline structure of the samples, which showed crystallite sizes of 14.90 and 24.43 nm for nanoparticles passivated with gelatin and starch, respectively. BACKGROUND: Olive stones were pretreated with liquid hot water (LHW or autohydrolysis) at maximum temperatures between 175 and 225 °C (severity factors, logR0, between 2.73 and 4.39) to be subjected (both liquid and solid components) afterwards to enzymatic hydrolysis with cellulases from Trichoderma viride. Ethanol fermentation of hydrolysates was performed with the non‐traditional yeast Pachysolen tannophilus ATCC 32691. RESULTS: After the enzymatic step, yields of hemicellulose solubilization reached 100%, while the cellulose was only partially hydrolysed (23%, logR0 = 4.39). The maximum yields in total reducing sugars and acetic acid, at the upper end of the severity range, was close to 0.25 and 0.04 g g?1 dry stone, respectively. During the fermentation stage, the increase in R0 reduced the maximum specific growth rate, biomass productivity, and overall biomass yield. The overall yields of ethanol and xylitol ranged, respectively, from 0.18 to 0.25 g g?1 and from 0.01 to 0.13 g g?1. CONCLUSIONS: The results demonstrate the possibility of producing ethanol from olive stones, making use of the cellulose and hemicellulose fraction of the waste. It was confirmed that the overall yield in xylitol strongly depended on severity factor, while the overall yield in ethanol remained practically constant for all the pretreatment conditions tested. The molecular mass of different Cry toxins produced by Bacillus thuringiensis bacteria was estimated by size-exclusion chromatography and non-denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis at neutral and alkaline pH in order to assess the existence of oligomers in solution. We found that Cry1Aa, Cry1Ac, Cry1C, Cry1D and Cry3A toxins exist in solution as a mixture of monomer and high molecular mass aggregates with an apparent molecular mass greater than 600 kDa, that depend on the time elapsed between toxin activation and analysis. Aggregation of toxins by disulfide bonds is unlikely because aggregates are also observed in samples incubated with DTT. These data show that the Cry toxins studied do not form oligomers of less than ten subunits in solution and suggest that oligomer formation may occur after the toxin binds to the receptor and inserts into the membrane. 相似文献

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a multifactorial disorder integrated by a constellation of cardiovascular risk factors. The genetic and environmental determinants of MetS are not fully elucidated. This study investigated the association of two common single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on GC, rs7041 and rs4588, derived haplotypes, and serum vitamin D binding protein (VDBP) levels with the susceptibility to suffer MetS in Mexican adults. We included 1924 individuals; clinical and biochemical data were obtained through standard methods. Genotyping was performed through predesigned TaqMan assays. Logistic regression models were used to assess the associations of interest. Prevalence of MetS was 52.9% in the whole population, being more frequent in women. We observed that some association results differed between sexes. The GG genotype of the rs7041 was associated with increased odds of MetS in women. For the rs4588, the CA genotype had a protective effect against MetS in women. The haplotype GC2 was associated with reduced odds for MetS and some of its components in women. Our data suggest that VDBP serum levels were influenced by genotypes/haplotypes and this interplay seems to influence the risk of MetS. Our data provide reliable evidence regarding the association of GC polymorphisms with MetS risk in Mexican women. 相似文献
