In this work, a Cr-free conversion layer based on molybdate–phosphate–silicate (MPS) was synthesised on a galvanized steel by simple immersion and its corrosion behaviour was compared to that of a typical chromate layer. Stationary electrochemical techniques and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were employed to highlight the corrosion mechanisms of both coatings in different NaCl concentrations, immersion times and pH. Contrary to the chromate layer, the MPS coating showed good electrochemical stability even in concentrated NaCl solutions and remarkable electrochemical efficiency. With increasing time, two corrosion stages were associated with the two likely sublayers of the MPS coating. Furthermore, the MPS coating behaved better than the chromate layer in acidic and alkaline pH, especially the latter as a compact corrosion product layer formed. Finally, each coating/electrolyte interface was characterised by an electrical equivalent circuit giving a satisfactory correlation between the experimental and the calculated impedance. In this study, the dynamic stress–strain response of graphite-epoxy composite laminates is investigated. The laminates are interposed in a section of a split Hopkinson apparatus. A quasi-rectangular wave is generated at one end of the incident bar by striking it with another bar of known length. This bar is accelerated using a compressed air gun. Approximate average stresses and strains can be obtained by measuring the incident, reflected and transmitted waves in the split bar. The dynamic behavior is evaluated for a range of impact velocities. The dependence of the response on impact velocity is analyzed and discussed. Three different specimen thicknesses have been used. These are obtained by increasing the repetition factor of a base stacking sequence: (+45°, −45°, 0°, 90°). This process is called sublaminate scaling; it is preferred to ply scaling since it has been shown that the accumulation of layers of the same orientation decreases the failure load to such an extent that residual stresses may crack the specimen before any external load is applied. Two banana starches were studied to analyze the effect of the acid hydrolysis on their molecular structure, and the impact in their physicochemical features. The native banana starches exhibit differences in the amylose content, molar mass, gelatinization parameters, X-ray diffraction pattern, and pasting profile. These results suggested that different acid hydrolysis mechanisms may be operative in these two starches. The kinetic hydrolysis is different in both banana starches that are related to the crystalline packing of the starch molecules. This was confirmed by the amylose content, the X-ray diffraction pattern, and the thermal study in the acid hydrolyzed starches at different times. The acid-treated Roatan starch showed higher retrogradation than Macho starch, a phenomenon that increases in the sample hydrolyzed for the longer time. This pattern is related to the amylose/amylopectin ratio, the reduction in the molar mass and the gyration radius. Autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS) is a rare disease defined as a defect in the lymphocyte apoptotic pathway. Currently, the diagnosis of ALPS is based on clinical aspects, defective lymphocyte apoptosis and mutations in Fas, FasL and Casp 10 genes. Despite this, ALPS has been misdiagnosed. The aim of this work was to go one step further in the knowledge of the disease, through a molecular and proteomic analysis of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from two children, a 13-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy, called patient 1 and patient 2, respectively, with clinical data supporting the diagnosis of ALPS. Fas, FasL and Casp10 genes from both patients were sequenced, and a sample of the total proteins from patient 1 was analyzed by label-free proteomics. Pathway analysis of deregulated proteins from PBMCs was performed on the STRING and PANTHER bioinformatics databases. A mutation resulting in an in-frame premature stop codon and protein truncation was detected in the Fas gene from patient 2. From patient 1, the proteomic analysis showed differences in the level of expression of proteins involved in, among other processes, cell cycle, regulation of cell cycle arrest and immune response. Noticeably, the most down-regulated protein is an important regulator of the cell cycle process. This could be an explanation of the disease in patient 1. 相似文献

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common tumor in the central nervous system in adults. This neoplasia shows a high capacity of growth and spreading to the surrounding brain tissue, hindering its complete surgical resection. Therefore, the finding of new antitumor therapies for GBM treatment is a priority. We have previously described that cyclin D1-CDK4 promotes GBM dissemination through the activation of the small GTPases RalA and RalB. In this paper, we show that RalB GTPase is upregulated in primary GBM cells. We found that the downregulation of Ral GTPases, mainly RalB, prevents the proliferation of primary GBM cells and triggers a senescence-like response. Moreover, downregulation of RalA and RalB reduces the viability of GBM cells growing as tumorspheres, suggesting a possible role of these GTPases in the survival of GBM stem cells. By using mouse subcutaneous xenografts, we have corroborated the role of RalB in GBM growth in vivo. Finally, we have observed that the knockdown of RalB also inhibits cell growth in temozolomide-resistant GBM cells. Overall, our work shows that GBM cells are especially sensitive to Ral-GTPase availability. Therefore, we propose that the inactivation of Ral-GTPases may be a reliable therapeutic approach to prevent GBM progression and recurrence. 相似文献

This paper presents two modified copolymeric hydrogel films with thermo-responsiveness. The final films are hydrogels containing N-isopropylacrylamide, N-N-dimethylacrylamide, methyl methacrylate, and ethoxyethyl methacrylate. The incorporation of Ag and Cu in the smart hydrogel films endowed them with specific properties that could be useful in developing biological sensors, smart membranes, or flexible electronic components, which are proper for design and improvement on technology and biomedical applications. The films were synthesized in solution by gamma radiation at a dose rate of 10 kGy h−1, and an absorbed dose of 50 kGy. The characterization was realized by different spectroscopic and microscopic techniques as FTIR-ATR, atomic force microscopy, SEM–EDX, TGA, and DSC. The hydrogel films were grafted with glycidyl methacrylate showing high resistance, biocompatibility, adequate adaptability, flexibility, in addition to the capacity of metal doping with silver and copper. 相似文献

Aluminide diffusion coatings are widely employed to improve the oxidation and/or the corrosion resistance of highly added
value turbine components operating in harsh environments at high temperatures. Refurbishment of such components requires appropriate
removal of worn coatings and of the corrosion products layer—usually an oxide scale. Stripping is mostly carried out using
hazardous chemical baths of limited reliability. In this work, an alternative stripping method based on electrochemical techniques
has been carried out at laboratory scale for CVD Al diffusion coatings on a directionally solidified Ni base superalloy. Both
the galvanostatic and the potentiostatic modes have been investigated. Prior to them, in situ gas bubbling induced by cathodic
polarization seems to be an effective way to remove the superficial oxide scales. Measuring the open circuit potential during
the experiments allows easy monitoring of the progress of the selective dissolution of the different layers. Complete removal
of the aluminide coatings is indicated by potential values similar to those of the substrate. The correlation between the
electrochemical features and the surface state after stripping has been carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM),
energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The electrochemical approach is a promising means to strip
