Previous research has indicated that decision making is accompanied by an increase in the coherence of assessments of the factors related to the decision alternatives. In the present study, the authors investigated whether this coherence shift is obtained before people commit to a decision, and whether it is obtained in the course of a number of other processing tasks. College students were presented with a complex legal case involving multiple conflicting arguments. Participants rated agreement with the individual arguments in isolation before seeing the case and after processing it under various initial sets, including playing the role of a judge assigned to decide the case. Coherence shifts were observed when participants were instructed to delay making the decision (Experiment 1), to memorize the case (Experiment 2), and to comprehend the case (Experiment 3). The findings support the hypothesis that a coherence-generating mechanism operates in a variety of processing tasks, including decision making. A Decision Support System has been set up as the result of a fruitful cooperation between several public and research institutions in the framework of a large cooperation program. The DSS aims to compare spatially and temporally sectorial water demands of the Haouz-Mejjate plain (Morocco) in regard to available surface and groundwater resources. It is composed of a tool for satellite estimation of Agricultural Water Demand (SAMIR), a tool for integrated water resources planning (WEAP) and a groundwater model (MODFLOW) each of them relying on a common Geographical Information System not described here. The DSS is operating on a monthly time scale. Agricultural water demand accounts for about 80?% of the total demand. In areas where groundwater abstraction is difficult to quantify by direct methods, multitemporal remote sensing associated to the FAO methodology is a simple and efficient alternative to estimate Evapotranspiration (ET). In this work, a monthly estimate of ET from irrigated areas is derived from freely available MODIS NDVI for the 2001?C2009 period. An important part of the paper deals with the validation of these estimates with eddy covariance flux measurements installed on different irrigated crops of the region. Results are satisfactory with a minus 6.5?% error per year on the monthly time scale. This preprocessing allows to dichotomize irrigated versus non-irrigated areas, and then, to estimate groundwater abstraction in subareas distinguishing by their operating modes: traditional, dam or privately irrigated. A dynamic linkage between MODFLOW and WEAP transfers the results of one model as input data to the other. The model restitutes both spatial and temporal variations in head charges and allows the calculation of the ground water balance. After calibration, piezometric validation is acceptable for the majority of the 21 head control points.  相似文献

Xanthylium salts formation involved in wine colour changes   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Summary The reaction of (+)-catechin in wine-like model solution was investigated. First appearance of colourless dimeric compounds consisting of two flavanol units linked by carboxy-methine bridge was observed. Their isolation and further incubation was found to yield two types of yellowish pigments showing visible absorption maxima at 440 and 460 nm, respectively. Mass spectroscopy (MS) spectral analysis showed that the first type were xanthylium salt pigments formed by dehydration of the colourless compounds followed by an oxidation process. The loss of a water molecule was shown to take place between two A ring hydroxyl groups of the colourless dimers. The second type were shown to be ester derivatives of the first ones. Thus ethylester of xanthylium salt was obtained and fully characterized by mass and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Esterification was found to involve the colourless compound before dehydration and thus a general scheme for xanthylium salt formation was postulated. The proposed scheme constitutes a new xanthylium formation pathway as up to now only anthocyanin-flavanol reactions were supposed to form xanthylium salt derivatives during wine ageing. This work also provides new support to the contribution of xanthylium salt in colour evolution observed during wine ageing which is generally expressed in an increase of absorption in the 400–500 nm, region of xanthylium salt absorption maxima.  相似文献

Biomanufacturing processes may be optimized by storing cell culture media at room temperature, but this is currently limited by their instability and change in color upon long-term storage. This study demonstrates that one of the critical contributing factors toward media browning is tryptophan. LC-MS technology was utilized to identify tryptophan degradation products, which are likely formed primarily from oxidation reactions. Several of the identified compounds were shown to contribute significantly to color in solutions but also to exhibit toxicity against CHO cells. A cell-culture-compatible antioxidant, a-ketoglutaric acid, was found to be an efficient cell culture media additive for stabilizing components against degradation, inhibiting the browning of media formulations, and decreasing ammonia production, thus providing a viable method for developing room-temperature stable cell culture media.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of moisture content on the specific methanogenic activity (SMA) of a fresh dry mesophilic digestate from a municipal solid waste digester plant. For this purpose, SMA tests were performed under mesophilic conditions in 500 mL glass bottles of volume used as batch reactors, during a period of 20–25 days. Cellulose, propionate and acetate were used as substrates (5 gCOD kg?1 digestate) at four different moisture contents, ranging from 65 to 82%. The moisture content strongly influenced the specific methanogenic activity. The highest SMA values were observed at a moisture content of 82% (11.1, 7.8 and 6.0 mgCOD gVS?1 d?1 for cellulose, propionate and acetate spikes, respectively). SMA and moisture content were found to be linearly linked. Dry digestion at low water content is thus detrimental to the biological activity, probably due to physical limitations. BACKGROUND: An important function of the gallbladder is to acidify and concentrate bile. Acidification helps protect against the precipitation of calcium salts, which promote gallstone formation. Altered acidification may result in pigment gallstones. We investigated gallbladder composition in a model of TPN-associated pigment gallstones to test whether changes in acidification may be important in this gallstone model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten miniswine were intravenously fed for 21 to 27 days (mean 23 days). Ten fed pig chow with intravenous infusion of saline served as controls. Gallbladder and hepatic bile electrolytes, lipids, pH, and pCO2 were measured. RESULTS: All animals remained healthy and gained weight. Hepatic bile electrolytes and pH were similar among all animals. Pigs on TPN had a higher gallbladder pH and the [H+] was half the value of controls [8.1 +/- 1.6 x 10(-8) meq/liter (control) versus 3.9 +/- 0.7 x 10(-8) meq/liter (TPN)]. Gallbladder bile pCO2, sodium (Na), and potassium were higher in controls. Biliary lipids [bile salts (BS), phospholipids, and cholesterol] with TPN were decreased in both hepatic and gallbladder bile. CONCLUSIONS: Unlike short-term TPN where gallbladder pH and [BS] are similar, with long-term TPN pH is higher with lower [H+], [Na], and [BS]. Despite a presumed longer residence time in the gallbladder, intravenous feeding without oral intake results in gallbladder bile that is less concentrated and acidified. Enteral stimulation may be an important stimulus for gallbladder acidification and periods without feeding may promote gallstone formation by increasing the pH of gallbladder bile.  相似文献

This work aims to evaluate the feasibility of using imidazolium ionic liquids (ILs) in the design of multiphase bioreactors for the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The IL affinity for three model VOCs (dimethyl sulfide, dimethyl disulfide and toluene) was evaluated by means of the dimensionless partition coefficient (K). It was observed that ILs showed K values comparable to typical liquid solvents used in multiphase bioreactors for VOC biodegradation (K values ranged from 0.009 to 0.011, 0.0012 to 0.0013 and 0.00061 to 0.00096 for dimethyl sulfide, dimethyl disulfide and toluene, respectively). Toxicity tests showed that both ILs at concentrations of 5% and 10% (v/v) inhibited the glucose uptake of an activated sludge during approximately 24 h. After such lag period, the microorganisms were able to recover its metabolic activity. However, VOC biodegradation experiments showed that ILs at 5% (v/v) were toxic for the activated sludge and a toxic synergistic effect of the IL–VOC combination likely occurred. After acclimation to the target VOCs, only the toluene biodegradation capacity was significantly increased in the presence of ILs. These toxic effects represent a key drawback for the potential of IL-based multiphase systems devoted to VOC biodegradation. Therefore, this study suggests that microbial acclimation only to the VOCs is not enough to get an efficient biodegradation in multiphase systems including ILs as non-aqueous phases.  相似文献

Cell localisation in the matrix microstructure of fermented food is important for microbial activity and ripening. To evaluate the importance of physicochemical factors in these phenomena, the physicochemical behaviour of four strains of lactic acid bacteria were investigated after inoculation of raw milk or milk fractions. To discriminate between physicochemical and metabolic properties, media were (i) rapidly acidified to avoid cell division or (ii) bacteria were allowed to ferment milk. To evaluate the impact of milk components, cells were dispersed in protein or fatty globule fractions. From two Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis biovar. diacetylactis strains selected from their different surface properties investigated in previous studies, after rapid acidification one was encountered in fatty globules and protein gels whereas the other was found in serum and on the surface of globules. After fermentation, the first one formed colonies in the lipid phase or next to it in the whey and the second formed colonies in the protein gel. Strains forming long chains (Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus) were always found in contact with fatty globules, where they developed. Our results suggest that localisation and subsequent spatial colonisation depend on the physicochemical properties of cell surfaces, on the structure in chains as well as on the metabolic ability to develop on proteins or lipids.  相似文献

Phelipanche ramosa is a parasitic plant that infects numerous crops worldwide. In Western Europe it recently expanded to a new host crop, oilseed rape, in which it can cause severe yield losses. We developed 13 microsatellite markers for P. ramosa using next-generation 454 sequencing data. The polymorphism at each locus was assessed in a sample of 96 individuals collected in France within 6 fields cultivated with tobacco, hemp or oilseed rape. Two loci were monomorphic. At the other 11 loci, the number of alleles and the expected heterozygosity ranged from 3 to 6 and from 0.31 to 0.60, respectively. Genetic diversity within each cultivated field was very low. The host crop from which individuals were collected was the key factor structuring genetic variation. Individuals collected on oilseed rape were strongly differentiated from individuals collected on hemp or tobacco, which suggests that P. ramosa infecting oilseed rape forms a genetically diverged race. The microsatellites we developed will be useful for population genetics studies and for elucidating host-associated genetic divergence in P. ramosa.  相似文献

A fiber web is modeled as a three-dimensional random cylindrical fiber network. Nonlinear behavior of fluid flowing through the fiber network is numerically simulated by using the lattice Boltzmann (LB) method. A nonlinear relationship between the friction factor and the modified Reynolds number is clearly observed and analyzed by using the Fochheimer equation, which includes the quadratic term of velocity. We obtain a transition from linear to nonlinear region when the Reynolds numbers are sufficiently high, reflecting the inertial effect of the flows. The simulated permeability of such fiber network has relatively good agreement with the experimental results and finite element simulations.  相似文献
