In this paper we consider vertical handoff for enterprise-based dual-mode (DM) cellular/WLAN handsets. When the handset roams
out of WLAN coverage, the DM's cellular interface is used to maintain the call by anchoring it through an enterprise PSTN
gateway/PBX. Soft handoff can be achieved in this case if the gateway supports basic conference bridging, since a new leg
of the call can be established to the conference bridge while the existing media stream path is active. Unfortunately this
requires that all intra-enterprise calls be routed through the gateway when the call is established. In this paper we consider
a SIP based architecture to perform conferenced dual-mode handoff and propose a much more scalable mechanism for short-delay
environments, whereby active calls are handed off into the conference bridge prior to the initiation of the vertical handoff.
Results are presented which are taken from a dual-mode handset testbed, from analytic models, and from simulations which characterize
the scalability of the proposed mechanism.

Terence D. Todd received the B.A.Sc, M.A.Sc and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario,
Canada. While at Waterloo he spent 3 years as a Research Associate with the Computer Communications Networks Group (CCNG).
He is currently a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Professor Todd spent 1991 on research leave in the Distributed Systems Research Department at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Murray
Hill, NJ. He also spent 1998 on research leave at The Olivetti and Oracle Research Laboratory in Cambridge, England. While
at ORL he worked on the piconet project which was an early embedded wireless network testbed.
Dr. Todd’s research interests include metropolitan/local area networks, wireless communications and the performance analysis
of computer communication networks and systems. He is a past Editor of the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking and currently
holds the NSERC/RIM/CITO Chair on Pico-Cellular Wireless Internet Access Networks.
Dr. Todd is a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario and a member of the IEEE.
Vytas Kezys was born in Hamilton, Canada in 1957. He received the B.Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University, Canada,
in 1979.
From 1979 to 1998, Mr. Kezys was involved in radar and communications research as Principal Research Engineer at the Communications
Research Laboratory, McMaster University. While at McMaster, his research activities included array signal processing for
low-angle tracking radar, radar signal processing, and smart antennas for wireless communications. Mr. Kezys was founder and
President of TalariCom Inc., a start-up company that developed cost effective smart antenna technologies for broadband wireless
access applications.
Currently, Mr. Kezys is Director of Advanced Products at Research in Motion in Waterloo, Canada.
Vahid S. Azhari received his B.S. and M.S. from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, IUST and University of Tehran, Iran,
in 2000 and 2003 respectively. His M.S. research focused on designing scheduling algorithms for switch fabrics. He also worked
for two years for the Iranian Telecommunication Research Centre on developing software for SDH switches. He is currently pursuing
his Ph.D. degree at the Wireless Networking Laboratory, McMaster University, Canada. His main area of research includes handoff
management in integrated wireless networks, WLAN deployment techniques, and wireless mesh networks.
Dongmei Zhao received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
in June 2002. Since July 2002 she has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, McMaster University,
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where she is an assistant professor. Dr. Zhao’s research interests include modeling and performance
analysis, quality-of-service provisioning, access control and admission control in wireless cellular networks and integrated
cellular and ad hoc networks. Dr. Zhao is a member of the IEEE. 相似文献

Nanocomposite polymer electrolytes (NCPE) were prepared using nano polyethylene oxide PEO doped with Magnesium (Mg) salts. Gamma irradiation was utilized to improve the PEO‐Mg salts particle sizes. Consequently, Magnesium Oxide (MgO) nanoparticles were prepared by green synthesis and incorporated into PEO‐Mg salts to improve their properties toward magnesium battery electrolyte applications. The prepared samples were examined before and after exposures to the radiation doses. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) indicated the particles size of the synthesized nano polymer‐Mg salts and MgO nanoparticles. Fourier transform infra‐red (FTIR) spectroscopic measurements, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), electrical conductivity, electrochemical properties, and thermal stability of the samples were determined. FTIR indicated the interaction between PEO with Mg salts and MgO nanoparticles which confirmed the structure. The TEM results showed a spherical nanoparticles of MgO and a good dispersion of MgO in PEO matrix. It was found that the irradiation dose 70 kGy gave the best results for the nano polymer‐Mg salts (13 nm). The electrical conductivity (σ) evaluated for NCPE, was more than three orders of magnitude of pure PEO. The liquid NCPE of 20 mL MgO NPs at 100 kGy exhibited a maximum conductivity of 3.63 × 10–3 Scm?1 at room temperature. The increase in temperature caused a slight effect on conductivity, 4.85 × 10–3 Scm?1 at temperature 250°C, at the same concentration. While un‐irradiated sample of 30 mL MgO NPs (σ) reached to 3.8 × 10?3 Scm?1 then became 5.03 × 10?3 Scm?1 by increasing temperature. From the cyclic voltammetry results, the polymer electrolytes containing MgO filler, 20 and 30 mL, for irradiated and un‐irradiated samples, respectively exhibited wider electrochemical stability window than the others due to the appearance of Mg deposition/desolution peak in CV curve showed that magnesium effectively migrating through electrolytes. The anatomical variations of two plants from the Nyctaginaceae family, Bougainvillea spectabilis and Bougainvillea glabra, were studied using light and scanning electron microscopy methods in this work. Bougainvillea is a dicotyledonous with defensive traits that can withstand extreme (hot and dry) settings; according to the findings, crystal inclusions in cells, woody spines, and an abnormal development pattern are all features that help them survive against predators and are unique to this species. The Bougainvillea plant's leaves are arranged in simple pattern, alternate to each other along stem having an undulate leaves edge and an oval form. The xylem and phloem, palisade, parenchyma midrib, spongy mesophyll, raphide crystal bundles, and trichomes were all visible when bracts and leaves were transversally sectioned and dyed with toluidine blue O (TBO). The presence of crystals was confirmed by a detailed examination of the transverse leaves by using bright-field and cross-polarizing microscopy. Dissecting microscopic examination showed that all the leaves revealed leaves venation pattern that had midvein, lateral veins areoles, and trichomes. Although trichomes have been identified on both sides, a closer look at a cleaned leaf dyed with TBO showed multicellular abundant trichomes on adaxial surface. Stomata complexes were typically found on the abaxial surface of the leaf according to epidermal peels. Present studies also showed that on adaxial side, stomata were lesser in number or were absent and also showed that the morphologies of the pavement cells on the adaxial and abaxial sides of the leaf differed. 相似文献

The present study focuses upon the effect of the impeller on sinking and floating behavior of suspending particles in stirred tank reactor, employing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation where factorial design is used to investigate the main and interaction effects of design parameters on the particle distribution performance of four typical impeller designs. Factorial design results show the effect of diameter and width of the impeller and off-bottom clearance on sinking particles is different from that of floating particles and regression equations for sinking particles and floating particles are achieved separately. Meanwhile, optimal equations which quantitatively reveal the effect of impeller factors on suspension quality and energy input is established for impeller improvement. Besides the development of computational models, the combination of CFD simulation with factorial design method provides a useful approach to gain insight into the suspension behavior of sinking and floating particles, also it guides to optimize the impeller design. 相似文献

Osteosarcoma is one of the most widespread causes of bone cancer globally and has a high mortality rate. Early diagnosis may increase the chances of treatment and survival however the process is time-consuming (reliability and complexity involved to extract the hand-crafted features) and largely depends on pathologists’ experience. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN—an end-to-end model) is known to be an alternative to overcome the aforesaid problems. Therefore, this work proposes a compact CNN architecture that has been rigorously explored on a Small Osteosarcoma histology Image Dataaseet (a high-class imbalanced dataset). Though, during training, class-imbalanced data can negatively affect the performance of CNN. Therefore, an oversampling technique has been proposed to overcome the aforesaid issue and improve generalization performance. In this process, a hierarchical CNN model is designed, in which the former model is non-regularized (due to dense architecture) and the later one is regularized, specifically designed for small histopathology images. Moreover, the regularized model is integrated with CNN’s basic architecture to reduce overfitting. Experimental results demonstrate that oversampling might be an effective way to address the imbalanced class problem during training. The training and testing accuracies of the non-regularized CNN model are 98% & 78% with an imbalanced dataset and 96% & 81% with a balanced dataset, respectively. The regularized CNN model training and testing accuracies are 84% & 75% for an imbalanced dataset and 87% & 86% for a balanced dataset. 相似文献
