Among organic–inorganic hybrid molecules consisting of organic structure(s) and metal(s), only few studies are available on the cytotoxicity of nucleophilic molecules. In the present study, we investigated the cytotoxicity of a nucleophilic organotellurium compound, diphenyl ditelluride (DPDTe), using a cell culture system. DPDTe exhibited strong cytotoxicity against vascular endothelial cells and fibroblasts along with high intracellular accumulation but showed no cytotoxicity and had less accumulation in vascular smooth muscle cells and renal epithelial cells. The cytotoxicity of DPDTe decreased when intramolecular tellurium atoms were replaced with selenium or sulfur atoms. Electronic state analysis revealed that the electron density between tellurium atoms in DPDTe was much lower than those between selenium atoms of diphenyl diselenide and sulfur atoms of diphenyl disulfide. Moreover, diphenyl telluride did not accumulate and exhibit cytotoxicity. The cytotoxicity of DPDTe was also affected by substitution. p-Dimethoxy-DPDTe showed higher cytotoxicity, but p-dichloro-DPDTe and p-methyl-DPDTe showed lower cytotoxicity than that of DPDTe. The subcellular distribution of the compounds revealed that the compounds with stronger cytotoxicity showed higher accumulation rates in the mitochondria. Our findings suggest that the electronic state of tellurium atoms in DPDTe play an important role in accumulation and distribution of DPDTe in cultured cells. The present study supports the hypothesis that nucleophilic organometallic compounds, as well as electrophilic organometallic compounds, exhibit cytotoxicity by particular mechanisms.  相似文献

A stable light image for south‐eastern Asia was extracted from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program's Operational Linescan System (DMSP/OLS) night‐time imagery for 1999. The accuracy assessment of the stable light image has been completed using two methods: a reference data‐based comparison and a stratified random sampling method. The stable light image was compared with the conventional stable light image for 1999 and the Landsat ETM+ 2000 image for the Kanto region of Japan. The results show that the digital numbers of the new stable light image (almost <20) in the non‐urban area are much lower than those of the conventional stable light image (almost >60) because the new stable light image includes little noise. The stratified random sampling method could assess the accuracy for both the new stable light image and the conventional stable light image in Asia by classifying the images into stable and non‐stable light areas.  相似文献

Data are presented for the first use of novel DNA-barcoded aerosol test particles that have been developed to track the fate of airborne contaminants in populated environments. Until DNATrax (DNA Tagged Reagents for Aerosol eXperiments) particles were developed, there was no way to rapidly validate air transport models with realistic particles in the respirable range of 1–10 μm in diameter. The DNATrax particles, developed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and tested with the assistance of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, are the first safe and effective materials for aerosol transport studies that are identified by DNA molecules. The use of unique synthetic DNA barcodes overcomes the challenges of discerning the test material from pre-existing environmental or background contaminants (either naturally occurring or previously released). The DNATrax particle properties are demonstrated to have appropriate size range (approximately 1–4.5 μm in diameter) to accurately simulate bacterial spore transport. Here, we describe details of the first field test of the DNATrax aerosol test particles in a large indoor facility.

La—Ni system alloys in fine powder form were used to make the hydrogen electrode for an alkaline fuel cell. LaNi5 electrodes were found to have the highest electrode performance among the La—Ni system electrodes. Using LaNi5 powder of mean particle size 3.4 μm for the electrode, the limiting current density was 180 mA/cm2. However mixing the same size powder (mean particle size 3.4 μm) with powder of mean particle size 40.5 μm in a ratio of 4:1, the limiting current density of the new electrode was 250 mA/cm2. The electrode was found to have both relatively fine pores in the range 0.01–0.2 μm and relatively large pores in the ranges 0.5–1 μm and 4–5 μm. Thus, it was found that not only relatively fine pores but relatively large pores had an important effect upon the LaNi5 electrode characteristics.  相似文献

The influences of surface films formed by open-circuit exposure to neutral solutions on the corrosion and electrochemical behaviour of pure Mg and Mg alloys have been examined by in situ ellipsometric analysis and electrochemical measurements. Surface films mainly composed of Mg(OH)2 grew rapidly during open-circuit exposure to 0.1 M NaCl and 0.1 M Na2SO4 solutions. These films had protective ability to passivate Mg in the solutions. However, they suffered local breakdown under anodic polarisation. The passive current density decreased and the breakdown potential increased with increasing immersion time and film thickness. Influences of purity and alloying elements on the passivity and its breakdown of Mg have been discussed.  相似文献

Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) help to maintain the normal physiological contractility of arterial vessels to control blood pressure; they can also contribute to vascular disease such as atherosclerosis. Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent kinase II (CaMKII), a multifunctional enzyme with four isoforms and multiple alternative splice variants, contributes to numerous functions within VSMCs. The role of these isoforms has been widely studied across numerous tissue types; however, their functions are still largely unknown within the vasculature. Even more understudied is the role of the different splice variants of each isoform in such signaling pathways. This review evaluates the role of the different CaMKII splice variants in vascular pathological and physiological mechanisms, aiming to show the need for more research to highlight both the deleterious and protective functions of the various splice variants.  相似文献

Epigenetic modifications rarely occur in isolation (as single “epigenetic modifications”). They usually appear together and form a network to control the epigenetic system. Cutaneous malignancies are usually affected by epigenetic changes. However, there is limited knowledge regarding the epigenetic changes associated with cutaneous lymphomas. In this review, we focused on cutaneous T-cell lymphomas such as mycosis fungoides, Sézary syndrome, and anaplastic large cell lymphoma. With regard to epigenetic changes, we summarize the detailed chemical modifications categorized into DNA methylation and histone acetylation and methylation. We also summarize the epigenetic modifications and characteristics of the drug for cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). Furthermore, we discuss current research on epigenetic-targeted therapy against cutaneous T-cell lymphomas. Although the current method of treatment with histone deacetylase inhibitors does not exhibit sufficient therapeutic benefits in all cases of CTCL, epigenetic-targeted combination therapy might overcome this limitation for patients with CTCL.  相似文献

We measured the dynamic viscoelasticities of collagen gels prepared and modified by four different methods: i) collagen gels cross-linked by 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide (EDC) after their preparation, ii) collagen gels cross-linked simultaneously with their preparation, iii) collagen gels irradiated with gamma rays after their preparation, and iv) collagen gels directly formed from an acidic collagen solution by gamma-cross-linking. Dynamic viscoelasticities of all samples were measured using a rheometer before and after heating for 30 min at 80 °C. The collagen gels sequentially cross-linked by 125 mM EDC after preparation and then heated exhibited mechanically strong properties (storage modulus G′, 7010 Pa; loss modulus G″, 288 Pa; Young's modulus E, 0.012 in the rapidly-increasing phase and 0.095 in the moderately-increasing phase; tensile strain, 5.29; tensile stress σ, 0.053). We generally conclude that the G′ value decreases when gels without fibrils are heated. On the other hand, well cross-linked collagen gels with thick fibrils, such as gels sequentially cross-linked with 125 mM EDC after preparation or gamma-cross-linked conventional gels irradiated at 40 kGy, exhibit a distinct increase in G′ value after heating. Those gels also have thick, twisted, or fused fibrils of collagen.  相似文献

Through a process of photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting, we demonstrated an effective strategy for engineering the barrier height of a heterogeneous semiconductor interface by piezoelectric polarization, known as the piezotronic effect. A consistent enhancement or reduction of photocurrent was observed when tensile or compressive strains were applied to the ZnO anode, respectively. The photocurrent variation is attributed to a changed barrier height at the ZnO/ITO interface, which is a result of the remnant piezoelectric potential across the interface due to a nonideal free charge distribution in the ITO electrode. In our system, ~1.5 mV barrier height change per 0.1% applied strain was identified, and 0.21% tensile strain yielded a ~10% improvement of the maximum PEC efficiency. The remnant piezopotential is dictated by the screening length of the materials in contact with piezoelectric component. The difference between this time-independent remnant piezopotential effect and time-dependent piezoelectric effect is also studied in details.  相似文献

For the establishment of the D-T fusion reactor technology, recovery of tritium released into the working area of fusion power plants is quite important. When tritium leaks to working areas, the last barrier is the wall of the building. Due to higher diffusion coefficient of tritium, it diffuses through the wall and would be readily liberated to the environment. Thus, the tritium recovery system is indispensable for the D-T fusion reactor. The objective of the present study is to develop the advanced technology of the tritium recovery system.In the near future, deuterium plasma discharge experiments scheduled be conducted with Large Helical Device (LHD) in National Institute for Fusion Science. A small amount of tritium is produced by D-D reaction in LHD. Tritium in plasma exhaust gases and process gas during discharge needs to be recovered, and thus the design and construction of the tritium recovery system used for that purpose is a matter of considerable urgency.The tritium recovery system usually consists of catalysts and adsorbents, which is the most conventional and reliable method for removing tritium that is accidentally released into the working area of these facilities. However, more recent and advanced type of catalysts on the market cannot be directly applied to the design of tritium recovery system, because of paucity of design data for tritium recovery system. In this study, the authors performed oxidation experiments of hydrogen over a catalyst. The experiments were performed by changing various experimental parameters.  相似文献
