A novel circuit design technique is presented which improves gain‐accuracy and linearity in differential amplifiers. The technique employs negative impedance compensation and results demonstrate a significant performance improvement in precision, lowering sensitivity, and wide dynamic range. A theoretical underpinning is given together with the results of a demonstrator differential input/output amplifier with gain of 12 dB. The simulation results show that, with the novel method, both the gain‐accuracy and linearity can be improved greatly. We examined the effect of in vitro manipulation of membrane phospholipid on the production of cytokines and prostaglandin (PG)E2 by respiratory epithelial cells (A549) in response to stimulation by mast cell mediators of allergic disease [histamine,
tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-5]. DHA and CLA significantly decreased the production of IL-8 in
response to stimulation by TNF-α [2907±970 (DHA) and 6471±1203 (CLA) vs. 12,287±2309 (control) pg/ml; P≤0.05, mean±SEM], whereas both EPA and DHA reduced histamine-stimulated RANTES (regulation on activation, T cell-expressed
and-secreted) production [2314±861 (EPA) and 877±326 (DHA) vs. 8526±1118 (control) pg/ml; P≤0.03]. PGE2 released in response to histamine was decreased by n−3 [1305±399 (α-linolenic acid), 406±73 (EPA), and 265±32 (DHA) vs. 9324±3672
(control) pg/mL; P≤0.05] and increased by n−6 [18,843±4439 (arachidonic acid) vs. 9324±3672 (control) pg/mL; P=0.02], with CLA producing a decrease of the same magnitude as DHA [553±126 (CLA) vs. 9324±3672 (control) pg/mL; P=0.03]. In this study the authors speculate about hypothetical effective-dose (E) reduction through limiting post-chemotherapy PET-CT scanning to lymphoma sites previously identified on pre-treatment CT. E reductions/scan time savings are compared between post-treatment standard and theoretically limited PET-CT scans. The influence of patient age with E savings and associated clinical implication for 100 subjects are discussed. The greatest E theoretical savings of 52 and 32% for the CT contribution and combined PET-CT, respectively, were seen in patients <18 y old using limited scans in this study, with a potential mean time saving of 16 min per patient across the entire cohort. However, the limited PET-CT regime here missed a 1% rate of unexpected cancer that standard PET-CT recorded. The authors recommend performing larger scale multi-centre studies comparing PET-CT pre- and post-chemotherapy to establish full clinical efficacy of this method. 相似文献

Cold rolling of a sandwich composite with a metallic strip inclusion in a polymeric matrix can produce a range of outcomes, including deformation and fracture of the inclusion. Using different material combinations under the same processing parameters, the results ranged from minor deformation, to folding and/or loss of adhesion, and fracture of the inclusion, with fracture particles varying in size and shape. Comparisons are made between the resulting structures after cold rolling of the polymer/metal composite to geological formations. In particular, the fracture particles obtained resemble rock structures known as boudins. The phenomena of boudinage and folding encountered in the cold rolling of polymer/metal composites is similar to that seen in geology formations although the time and size scale of these events are several orders of magnitude apart. The experimental results reported show that cold rolling applied to a polymer/metal sandwiched composite induces deformation and fracture behaviors that depend on the mechanical properties of the constituents, deformation behavior of the polymeric matrices, interfacial adhesion, and process parameters such as rollers speed and nip-gap. 相似文献

Transparent polymers are considered as alternative low-cost mold materials in UV nanoimprint lithography (UV-NIL). Here, we demonstrate a nanoimprint process with molds made of rigid polymers novel for this application. These polymer molds are found to show high performance in the patterning with UV-NIL. We present a detailed study of the influence of carbon nanotube (CNT) characteristics on the electrical conductivity of polystyrene nanocomposites produced using a latex‐based approach. We processed both industrially‐produced multi‐wall CNT (MWCNT) powders and MWCNTs from vertically‐aligned films made in‐house, and demonstrate that while the raw CNTs are individualized and dispersed comparably within the polymer matrix, the electrical conductivity of the final nanocomposites differs significantly due to the intrinsic characteristics of the CNTs. Owing to their longer length after dispersion, the percolation threshold observed using MWCNTs from vertically‐aligned films is five times lower than the value for industrially‐produced MWCNT powders. Further, owing to the high structural quality of the CNTs from vertically‐aligned films, the resulting composite films exhibit electrical conductivity of 103 S m?1 at 2 wt% CNTs. On the contrary, composites made using the industrially‐produced CNTs exhibit conductivity of only tens of S m?1. To our knowledge, the measured electrical conductivity for CNT/PS composites using CNTs from vertically‐aligned films is by far the highest value yet reported for CNT/PS nanocomposites at this loading. 相似文献

Candidate malaria vaccines have failed to elicit consistently protective immune responses against challenge with Plasmodium falciparum. NYVAC-Pf7, a highly attenuated vaccinia virus with 7 P. falciparum genes inserted into its genome, was tested in a phase I/IIa safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy vaccine trial in human volunteers. Malaria genes inserted into the NYVAC genome encoded proteins from all stages of the parasite's life cycle. Volunteers received three immunizations of two different dosages of NYVAC-Pf7. The vaccine was safe and well tolerated but variably immunogenic. While antibody responses were generally poor, cellular immune responses were detected in >90% of the volunteers. Of the 35 volunteers challenged with the bite of 5 P. falciparum-infected Anopheles mosquitoes, 1 was completely protected, and there was a significant delay in time to parasite patency in the groups of volunteers who received either the low or high dose of vaccine compared with control volunteers. 相似文献
