In this letter, a titanium aluminum carbide (Ti3AlC2) coated D-shaped fiber is proposed and demonstrated as a new saturable absorber (SA) for Q-switched laser pulse generation. In preparing the SA, the Ti3AlC2 powder is dispersed in liquid polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) before the solution is dropped and left to dry onto a polished surface of D-shape fiber. The SA is added to an erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) cavity to modulate the cavity loss for Q-switching. The Q-switched laser is obtained at 1 561 nm. The pulse width of the pulses can be varied between 7.4 µs and 5.1 µs with a corresponding repetition rate range from 41.26 kHz to 54.35 kHz, when the pump power is increased from 42.2 mW to 71.5 mW. At 71.5 mW pump, the pulse energy is obtained at 70.3 nJ. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the fundamental frequency is recorded at 67 dB, which indicates the stability of the laser. 相似文献

In mergers and acquisitions (M&A), a primary objective of acquirer is to integrate IT resources of the target with its own. IT M&A integration is assumed to create synergies, which in turn increase shareholder wealth by making the value of the merged firm greater than the sum of the standalone values of the two firms. In this study, we challenge this assumption and argue that IT M&A integration does not always lead to greater value creation. Prior research on IT M&A integrations indicates that IT resources are often not scale-free in M&A: that is, they do not transfer easily and costlessly from an acquirer to its target or vice versa. In fact, IT M&A integration can destroy value rather than create it when IT resources are not scale-free. We theorize about the contingencies under which IT M&A integration can create value for shareholders of acquirers. We test our hypotheses in a sample of 549 M&A transactions between 1998 and 2007. We find that, on average, capital markets react negatively with M&A announcements of acquirers whose IT capabilities are superior relative to those of the targets. The superiority of the acquirer’s IT capabilities signals that the acquirer is likely to rip and replace IT resources of the target. This IT M&A integration approach increases risks of disruption to target’s operations and revenue growth. Capital markets take such risks into account and reduce the stock price of the acquirer. One contingency that reduces the negative reactions of capital markets is industry relatedness of target. In a same-industry acquisition, an acquirer and its target have similar operating models, competitive dynamics, and regulatory context. Thus, ripping and replacing weaker IT resources of the target with superior IT resources of the acquirer creates expectations of more efficient operation, engenders positive stock price reactions, and increases shareholder wealth. Another contingency that reduces the negative reactions of capital markets is the acquirer’s track record in profitable growth. A profitably growing acquirer that has superior IT capabilities increases the confidence of capital markets that it can minimize potential disruption risks of IT integration, continue its profitable growth pattern with newly acquired target, engender positive stock price reactions, and create shareholder wealth. These findings indicate that IT M&A integration does not always lead to greater value creation in M&A. Dendritic spacing can affect microsegregation profiles and also the formation of secondary phases within interdendritic regions, which influences the mechanical properties of cast structures. To understand dendritic spacings, it is important to understand the effects of growth rate and composition on primary dendrite arm spacing (λ 1) and secondary dendrite arm spacing (λ 2). In this study, aluminum alloys with concentrations of (1, 3, and 5 wt pct) Zn were directionally solidified upwards using a Bridgman-type directional solidification apparatus under a constant temperature gradient (10.3 K/mm), resulting in a wide range of growth rates (8.3–165.0 μm/s). Microstructural parameters, λ 1 and λ 2 were measured and expressed as functions of growth rate and composition using a linear regression analysis method. The values of λ 1 and λ 2 decreased with increasing growth rates. However, the values of λ 1 increased with increasing concentration of Zn in the Al-Zn alloy, but the values of λ 2 decreased systematically with an increased Zn concentration. In addition, a transition from a cellular to a dendritic structure was observed at a relatively low growth rate (16.5 μm/s) in this study of binary alloys. The current study has investigated the influence of zirconium (Zr) addition to Mg–3Ca–xZr (x = 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 wt%) alloys prepared using argon arc melting on the microstructure and impression properties at 448–498 K under constant stress of 380 MPa. Microstructural analysis of as-cast Mg–3Ca–xZr alloys showed grain refinement with Zr addition. The observed grain refinement was attributed to the growth restriction effect of Zr in hypoperitectic Mg–3Ca–0.3 wt% Zr alloys. Heterogeneous nucleation of α-Mg in properitectic Zr during solidification resulted in grain refinement of hyperperitectic Mg–3Ca–0.6 wt% Zr and Mg–3Ca–0.9 wt% Zr alloys. The hardness of Mg–3Ca–xZr alloys increased as the amount of Zr increased due to grain refinement and solid solution strengthening of α-Mg by Zr. Creep resistance of Mg–3Ca–xZr alloys increased with the addition of Zr due to solid solution strengthening of α-Mg by Zr. The calculated activation energy (Qa) for Mg–3Ca samples (131.49 kJ/mol) was the highest among all alloy compositions. The Qa values for 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 wt% Zr containing Mg–3Ca alloys were 107.22, 118.18 and 115.24 kJ/mol, respectively. 相似文献

Network on chip (NoC) has been proposed as an appropriate solution for today’s on-chip communication challenges. Power dissipation has become a key factor in the NoCs because of their shrinking sizes. In this paper, we propose a new encoding approach aimed at power reduction by decreasing the number of switching activities on the buses. This approach assigns the symbols to data word in such a way that the more frequent words are sent by less power consumption. This algorithm dedicates the symbols with less ones to high probability data and uses transition signaling to transmit data. The proposed method, unlike the existing low power encoding, does not rely on spatial redundancy and keeps the width of the bus constant. Experimental evaluations show that our approach reduces the power dissipation up to 46 % with 2.70, 0.51, and 15.43 % power, critical path and area overhead in the NoCs, respectively. 相似文献

The m-machine no-wait flowshop scheduling problem, with the objective of minimizing total completion time subject to the constraint that makespan has to be less than or equal to a certain value, is addressed in this paper. First, an algorithm is proposed to find an upper bound on the makespan in case the upper bound is not given or unknown. Given the upper bound on makespan, a proposed algorithm (PAL) with five versions L (1, 5, 10, 15, and 20) and a genetic algorithm (GA) are utilized for solving the problem. Furthermore, a dominance relation is established for the case of four machines. The five versions of PAL and GA are evaluated on randomly generated problems with different number of jobs and number of machines. Computational experiments show that the errors of PA1 0, PA15, and PA20 are much smaller than that of GA while the CPU times of PA10, PA15, and PA20 are significantly smaller than that of GA. In this study, the strengthening with polymer the polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete exposed to high temperature was examined. Taguchi L9 (33) orthogonal array was used for the design of experiments. Three different parameters were used in the study; polypropylene fiber percentage (0 %, 1 % and 2 %), high temperature degree (300 °C, 600 °C and 900 °C) and curing period (3, 7 and 28 days). Cube samples of 100x100x100 mm sizes were produced for the compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity tests. The samples were removed from the water and dried at 105?±?5 °C, and then they were exposed to temperatures of 300 °C, 600 °C and 900 °C. Then, the polymerization of monomer and the vinyl acetate monomer impregnation on the samples were carried out. The compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity tests were made. Taguchi analysis showed that the largest compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity were obtained at a rate of 0 % from the samples with polypropylene fiber exposed to 600 °C and kept for 28 days as cure period. It was determined as the result of Anova analysis that high temperature had made biggest effect on the compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity of the concrete reinforced with polymer. 相似文献

Hydrogen is believed to be the one of the main energy carriers in the near future. In this research glycerine, which is produced in large quantities as a by-product of biodiesel process, was converted to hydrogen aiming to contribute to clean energy initiative. Conversion of glycerol to hydrogen was achieved via aqueous-phase reforming (APR) with Pt/Al2O3 catalyst. The experiments were carried out in an autoclave reactor and a continuous fixed-bed reactor. The effects of reaction temperature (160-280 °C), feed flow rate (0.05-0.5 mL/dak) and feed concentration (5-85 wt-% glycerine) on product distribution were investigated. Optimum temperature for hydrogen production with APR was determined as 230 °C. Maximum gas production rate was found at the feed flow rates around 0.1 mL/min. It was also found that hydrogen concentration in the gas product increased with decreasing glycerol concentration in the feed. 相似文献
