In Denmark (DK), Finland (FIN), Iceland (I), Norway (N), and Sweden (S), 516 swine herds were randomly selected in 1986-1988. Individual faecal analyses (mean: 27.9 per herd) from eight age categories of swine showed that Ascaris suum, Oesophagostomum spp., Isospora suis, and Eimeria spp. were common, while Trichuris suis and Strongyloides ransomi-like eggs occurred sporadically. Large fatteners and gilts were most frequently infected with A. suum with maximum prevalences of 25-35% in DK, N and S, 13% in I and 5% in FIN. With the exception of the remarkably low A. suum prevalence rates in FIN, no clear national differences were observed. Oesophagostomum spp. were most prevalent in adult pigs in the southern regions (21-43% in DK and southern S), less common in the northern regions (4-17% adult pigs infected), and not recorded in I. I. suis was common in piglets in DK, I, and S (20-32%), while < 1% and 5% were infected in N and FIN, respectively. Eimeria spp. had the highest prevalences in adult pigs (max. 9%) without clear geographical differences. I. suis and Eimeria spp. were recorded for the first time in I, and I. suis for the first time in N.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the long term effect of 131I treatment on thyroid function and size in patients with non-toxic multinodular goitre. The subjects were 69 consecutive patients with multinodular non-toxic goitre selected for 131I treatment and followed for a minimum of 12 months. Outcome measures were standard thyroid function variables and ultrasonically determined thyroid volume before and after treatment. Fifty-nine patients were treated with a single dose of 131I, 12 with two doses, and one with four doses. In 45 patients treated with one dose who remained euthyroid the median thyroid volume was reduced from 73 (interquartile range 50-106) ml to 29 (interquartile range 23-48) ml at 24 months. The median reduction was 40 (22-48) ml, half of which occurred within three months. Patients treated with two doses as well as those developing hypo- or hyper-thyroidism also had a significant reduction in thyroid volume. Eleven patients developed hypothyroidism (cumulative five year risk 22%). Side effects were few. In conclusion we find that 131I treatment of multinodular non-toxic goitre is an attractive alternative to surgery.  相似文献

Insulin-like growth factor-II mRNA-binding proteins 1, 2 and 3 (IMP1, IMP2 and IMP3) belong to a family of RNA-binding proteins implicated in mRNA localization, turnover and translational control. We examined their expression pattern during development of murine and human testis and ovaries. In the mouse, IMPs were expressed in male and female gonadal cells at embryonic day 12.5 (E12.5). From E16.5, IMP1 and IMP3 became restricted to the developing germ cells, whereas IMP2 expression persisted in the interstitial cells. In mature mouse and human ovaries, IMP1, IMP2 and IMP3 were detected in resting and growing oocytes and in the granulosa cells. In testis, IMP1 and IMP3 were found mainly in the spermatogonia, whereas IMP2 was expressed in the immature Leydig cells. Moreover, all three IMPs were detected in human semen. The developmental expression pattern of IMP1 and IMP3 in the human testis prompted us to examine their possible involvement in testicular neoplasia. IMPs were detected primarily in germ-cell neoplasms, including preinvasive testicular carcinoma in situ, classical and spermatocytic seminoma, and nonseminomas, with particularly high expression in undifferentiated embryonal carcinoma. The relative expression of IMP1, IMP2 and IMP3 varied among tumor types and only IMP1 was detected in all carcinoma in situ cells. Thus IMPs, and in particular IMP1, may be useful auxiliary markers of testicular neoplasia.  相似文献

Hormesis in mixtures -- can it be predicted?   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Binary mixture studies are well established for mixtures of pollutants, pesticides, or allelochemicals and sound statistical methods are available to evaluate the results in relation to reference models. The majority of mixture studies are conducted to investigate the effect of one compound on the inhibitory action of another. However, since stimulatory responses to low concentrations of chemicals are gaining increased attention and improved statistical models are available to describe this phenomenon of hormesis, scientists are challenged by the question of what will happen in the low concentration range when all or some of the chemicals in a mixture induce hormesis? Can the mixture effects still be predicted and can the size and concentration range of hormesis be predicted? The present study focused on binary mixtures with one or both compounds inducing hormesis and evaluated six data sets of root length of Lactuca sativa L. and areal growth of Lemna minor L., where substantial and reproducible hormetic responses to allelochemicals and herbicides have been found. Results showed that the concentration giving maximal growth stimulatory effects (M) and the concentration where the hormetic effect had vanished (LDS) could be predicted by the most-used reference model of concentration addition (CA), if the growth inhibitory concentrations (EC50) followed CA. In cases of deviations from CA at EC50, the maximum concentration M and the LDS concentration followed the same deviation patterns, which were described by curved isobole models. Thus, low concentration mixture effects as well as the concentration range of hormesis can be predicted applying available statistical models, if both mixture partners induce hormesis. Using monotonic concentration-response models instead of biphasic concentration-response models for the prediction of joint effects, thus ignoring hormesis, slightly overestimated the deviation from CA at EC20 and EC50, but did not alter the general conclusion of the mixture study in terms of deviation from the reference model. Mixture effects on the maximum stimulatory response were tested against the hypothesis of a linear change with mixture ratio by constructing 95% prediction intervals based on the single concentration-response curves. Four out of the six data sets evaluated followed the model of linear interpolation reasonably well, which suggested that the size of the hormetic growth stimulation can be roughly predicted in mixtures from knowledge of the concentration-response relationships of the individual chemicals.  相似文献

Objective

To accelerate super-selective arterial spin labeling (ASL) angiography by using a single control condition denoted as cycled super-selective arterial spin labeling.

Materials and methods

A single non-selective control image is acquired that is shared by selective label images. Artery-selective imaging is possible by geometrically changing the position of the labeling focus to more than one artery of interest during measurement. The presented approach is compared to conventional super-selective imaging in terms of its labeling efficiency inside and outside the labeling focus using numerical simulations and in vivo measurements. Additionally, the signal-to-noise ratios of the images are compared to non-selective ASL angiography and analyzed using a two-way ANOVA test and calculating the Pearson’s correlation coefficients.

Results

The results indicate that the labeling efficiency is not reduced within the labeled artery, but can increase as a function of distance to the artery of interest when compared to conventional super-selective ASL. In the final images, no statistically significant difference of image quality can be observed while the acquisition duration could be reduced when the major brain feeding arteries are being tagged.

Conclusion

Using super-selective arterial spin labeling, a single non-selective control acquisition suffices for reconstructing selective angiograms of the cerebral vasculature, thereby accelerating image acquisition of the major intracranial arteries without notable loss of information.

This study presents the first application of a high-resolution magic angle spinning 1H NMR approach to elucidate the metabolic effects of a hypercholesterolemic condition and two high-fiber diets based on rye and wheat bread, respectively, in intact pig liver biopsy samples. Standard 1D and spin-echo 1H spectra were acquired on a total of 20 biopsy samples, and 2D total correlation spectroscopy experiments were carried out on selected samples for assignment of the observed resonances. Principal component analyses and partial least-squares regression discriminant analysis revealed differences in the hepatic lipid content and choline-containing compounds between normal and hypercholesterolemic pigs. In addition, the results demonstrated that the liver metabolite profile of hypercholesterolemic pigs fed a high-fiber rye bread differed from that of pigs fed high-fiber wheat bread with respect to both the lipoprotein fractions and the choline-containing compounds. These findings suggest that earlier reports on high-fiber rye diet-induced effects on plasma HDL/LDL content partially can be ascribed to effects on liver cholesterol metabolism and that the hepatic phospholipase pathways of phosphatidylcholine breakdown are affected by the high-fiber rye diet.  相似文献

We examine how local direction signals are combined to compute the focus of radial motion (FRM) in random dot patterns and examine how this process changes across the visual field. Equivalent noise analysis showed that a loss in FRM accuracy was largely attributable to an increase in local motion detector noise with little or no change in efficiency across the visual field. The minimum separation for discriminating the foci of two overlapping optic flow patterns increased in the periphery faster than predicted from the resolution for a single FRM. This behavior requires that observers average numerous local velocities to estimate the FRM, which enables resistance to internal and external noise and endows the system with the property of position invariance. However, such pooling limits the precision with which multiple looming objects can be discriminated, especially in the peripheral visual field.  相似文献

CuxNi85−xFe15 (0 ? x ? 85 wt.%) compounds were prepared by mechanical alloying. Monophased face centered cubic (fcc) Cu-Ni-Fe alloys were obtained after 10 h of milling for x varying from 0 to 50, whereas bi-phased compounds fcc Cu-Ni-Fe + body centered cubic (bcc) Fe were formed with richer-Cu compounds. Their oxidation kinetics in air at 750 °C is parabolic for all compositions and increases drastically for x > ∼30. A stable anode for aluminium electrolysis in low-temperature (700 °C) KF-AlF3 electrolyte was obtained for 65 ? x ? 85. However, a substantial increase of the Cu contamination in produced aluminium was observed for x > 70.  相似文献
