Computer-aided surgery (CAS), the intraoperative application of biomedical visualization techniques, appears to be one of the most promising fields of application for augmented reality (AR), the display of additional computer-generated graphics over a real-world scene. Typically a device such as a head-mounted display (HMD) is used for AR. However, considerable technical problems connected with AR have limited the intraoperative application of HMDs up to now. One of the difficulties in using HMDs is the requirement for a common optical focal plane for both the realworld scene and the computer-generated image, and acceptance of the HMD by the user in a surgical environment. In order to increase the clinical acceptance of AR, we have adapted the Varioscope (Life Optics, Vienna), a miniature, cost-effective head-mounted operating binocular, for AR. In this paper, we present the basic design of the modified HMD, and the method and results of an extensive laboratory study for photogrammetric calibration of the Varioscope's computer displays to a real-world scene. In a series of 16 calibrations with varying zoom factors and object distances, mean calibration error was found to be 1.24 +/- 0.38 pixels or 0.12 +/- 0.05 mm for a 640 x 480 display. Maximum error accounted for 3.33 +/- 1.04 pixels or 0.33 +/- 0.12 mm. The location of a position measurement probe of an optical tracking system was transformed to the display with an error of less than 1 mm in the real world in 56% of all cases. For the remaining cases, error was below 2 mm. We conclude that the accuracy achieved in our experiments is sufficient for a wide range of CAS applications. 相似文献
Fluorine MR would benefit greatly from enhancements in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). This study examines the sensitivity gain of 19F MR that can be practically achieved when moving from 9.4 to 21.1 T.
Materials and methods
We studied perfluoro-15-crown-5-ether (PFCE) at both field strengths (B0), as a pure compound, in the form of nanoparticles (NP) as employed to study inflammation in vivo, as well as in inflamed tissue. Brains, lymph nodes (LNs) and spleens were obtained from mice with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) that had been administered PFCE NPs. All samples were measured at both B0 with 2D-RARE and 2D-FLASH using 19F volume radiofrequency resonators together. T1 and T2 of PFCE were measured at both B0 strengths.
Results
Compared to 9.4 T, an SNR gain of > 3 was observed for pure PFCE and > 2 for PFCE NPs at 21.1 T using 2D-FLASH. A dependency of 19F T1 and T2 relaxation on B0 was demonstrated. High spatially resolved 19F MRI of EAE brains and LNs at 21.1 T revealed signals not seen at 9.4 T.
Discussion
Enhanced SNR and T1 shortening indicate the potential benefit of in vivo 19F MR at higher B0 to study inflammatory processes with greater detail.
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) investigations of intact interfaces of cells and brittle biomaterials have proven difficult
using common TEM preparation techniques. This paper describes a technique to fabricate thin sections for TEM investigation
of intact interfaces between human monocytes and sintered hydroxylapatite by the use of focused ion beam (FIB) microscopy.
The interfaces were examined using energy filtered TEM. 相似文献
(1) Background: Since the discovery of cisplatin’s cytotoxic properties, platinum(II) compounds have attracted much interest in the field of anticancer drug development. Over the last few years, classical structure–activity relationships (SAR) have been broken by some promising new compounds based on platinum or other metals. We focus on the synthesis and characterization of 17 different complexes with β-hydroxydithiocinnamic acid esters as O,S bidendate ligands for nickel(II), palladium(II), and platinum(II) complexes. (2) Methods: The bidendate compounds were synthesized and characterized using classical methods including NMR spectroscopy, MS spectrometry, elemental analysis, and X-ray crystallography, and their cytotoxic potential was assessed using in vitro cell culture assays. Data were compared with other recently reported platinum(II), ruthenium(II), and osmium(II) complexes based on the same main ligand system. (3) Results: SAR analyses regarding the metal ion (M), and the alkyl-chain position (P) and length (L), revealed the following order of the effect strength for in vitro activity: M > P > L. The highest activities have Pd complexes and ortho-substituted compounds. Specific palladium(II) complexes show lower IC50 values compared to cisplatin, are able to elude cisplatin resistance mechanisms, and show a higher cancer cell specificity. (4) Conclusion: A promising new palladium(II) candidate (Pd3) should be evaluated in further studies using in vivo model systems, and the identified SARs may help to target platinum-resistant tumors. 相似文献
