Novel zinc complexes with acetyloacetonate, imidazole and thiolate ligands: Crystal structure of a zinc complex of relevance to farnesyl transferase

New zinc(II) complex 1 with three different ligands: acetyloacetonate, tri-tert-butoxysilanethiolate and neutral 2-isopropylimidazole has been obtained and characterized by X-ray diffraction. It is the first example of a mononuclear zinc(II) complex mimicking the active site of farnesyl transferase. (2-Isopropylimidazole)bis(acetylacetonato)zinc(II) 2 is also described as an intermediate product of the reaction leading to the formation of 1.

Hot Spots Generated in Conducting Spheres by Electromagnetic Waves and Biological Implications

The distribution of the heating potential generated by an incident electromagnetic plane wave on a conducting sphere simulating the human head was investigated. It was found that for a sphere of 10-cm radius having the same electrical characteristics as those of biological tissues, no hot spots are generated inside. While at lower frequencies the heating is relatively uniform with some polarization effects, for frequencies above 1000 MHz only skin heating takes place. For a sphere of the same size but of conductivity ?= 10 mmho/cm (which for f>1000 is lower than that of biological tissues) hot spots occur inside for f>1000 MHz. Intense hot spots also occur inside spheres of radius 5 cm having the same electrical characteristics as those of biological tissues in the frequency region of 250 MHz相似文献

Father–daughter incest.

Examines sexual abuse of children in the light of the facts that approximately 10% of all women report a childhood sexual experience with a relative and that 1% are victims of father–daughter incest. Incestuous families are seen to represent a pathological exaggeration of traditional patriarchal norms. Common features include extreme paternal dominance, maternal disability, and imposition of a mothering role on the oldest daughter. The incestual relationship has not only been found to begin before puberty and to continue in secrecy for many years, but more than one daughter may be involved. Adult women with a history of incest exhibit a clinical syndrome that includes low self-esteem, difficulty in intimate relationships, and repeated victimization. Measures that improve the general status of women and strengthen the role of mothers within the family are proposed as the best means of long-term prevention. Failure during thermal cycling of plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coatings

The thermal cycling behavior of plasma-sprayed ZrO₂?12wt.%Y₂O₃ coatings was studied. Coatings were produced with and without bond coats of Ni-Cr-Al-Zr and in some cases the substrates were heated to above the optimum temperature prior to spraying. The coatings (attached to the substrate) were thermal cycled to 1200 °C and their cracking behavior was followed by acoustic emission (AE) techniques. It was possible to examine the failure mechanisms by statistical analysis of the AE data and to evaluate the influence of preheating and bond coating. It is shown that the AE spectrum changes when a bond coat is used because of the presence of microcracks which, in turn, dissipate energy and improve the coating integrity. The preheating effect is reflected by a decrease in the peak count rate and an increase in the temperature at which AE activity is initiated.
