ABSTRACT:  Different secondary modeling approaches for the estimation of Listeria monocytogenes growth rate as a function of temperature (4 to 30 °C), citric acid (0% to 0.4% w/v), and ascorbic acid (0% to 0.4% w/v) are presented. Response surface (RS) and square-root (SR) models are proposed together with different artificial neural networks (ANN) based on product functions units (PU), sigmoidal functions units (SU), and a novel approach based on the use of hybrid functions units (PSU), which results from a combination of PU and SU. In this study, a significantly better goodness-of-fit was obtained in the case of the ANN models presented, reflected by the lower SEP values obtained (< 24.23 for both training and generalization datasets). Among these models, the SU model provided the best generalization capacity, displaying lower RMSE and SEP values, with fewer parameters compared to the PU and PSU models. The bias factor (Bf) and accuracy factor (Af) of the mathematical validation dataset were above 1 in all cases, providing fail-safe predictions. The balance between generalization properties and the ease of use is the main consideration when applying secondary modeling approaches to achieve accurate predictions about the behavior of microorganisms.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different forage:concentrate (FC) ratios in dairy ewe diets supplemented with sunflower oil (SO) on animal performance and milk fatty acid (FA) profile, particularly focusing on trans C18:1 FA and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Sixty lactating Assaf ewes were randomly assigned to 6 treatments in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement: 3 FC ratios (30:70, 50:50, and 70:30) and 2 levels of SO addition (0 and 20 g/kg of dry matter). Both the diet FC ratio and SO supplementation affected milk yield, but differences between treatments were small. Although the proportion of concentrate induced limited changes in milk FA profile, dietary SO significantly decreased saturated FA and enhanced total CLA. Furthermore, the incorporation of SO in ewe diets decreased the atherogenicity index value by about 25% and doubled the contents of potentially healthy FA such as trans-11 C18:1 and cis-9,trans-11 CLA. However, the inclusion of SO in a high-concentrate diet (30:70) could switch linoleic acid biohydrogenation pathways, resulting in a significant increase in trans-10 C18:1, trans-9,cis-11 C18:2, and trans-10,cis-12 C18:2 milk fat percentages.  相似文献

We report here the development of stable aqueous suspensions of biocompatible superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs). These so-called ferrofluids are useful in a large spectrum of modern biomedical applications, including novel diagnostic tools and targeted therapeutics. In order to provide prolonged circulation times for the nanoparticles in?vivo, the initial iron oxide nanoparticles were coated with a biocompatible polymer poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). To permit covalent bonding of PEG to the SPION surface, the latter was functionalized with a coupling agent, 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APS). This novel method of SPION PEGylation has been reproduced in numerous independent preparations. At each preparation step, particular attention was paid to determine the physico-chemical characteristics of the samples using a number of analytical techniques such as atomic absorption, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS, used for hydrodynamic diameter and zeta potential measurements) and magnetization measurements. The results confirm that aqueous suspensions of PEGylated SPIONs are stabilized by steric hindrance over a wide pH range between pH 4 and 10. Furthermore, the fact that the nanoparticle surface is nearly neutral is in agreement with immunological stealthiness expected for the future biomedical applications in?vivo.  相似文献

The optical range of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) is extended into the infrared region, thanks to the development of highly doped semiconductor nanocrystals. Particularly, the near-infrared (NIR) range holds a significant interest in managing solar radiation. However, practical applications necessitate the arrangement of particles, which is known to possibly impact their optical properties through LSPR coupling effects. How such coupling modifies the LSPR response in semiconductor hosts remains largely unexplored. In this study, a protocol for producing composite coatings composed of cesium-doped tungsten bronze nanocrystals embedded in a silica matrix is presented. Achieving individual dispersion of nanocrystals is made possible through careful selection of a surface polyglycerol ligand exchange. This allows to tune the interparticle distance by adjusting the nanocrystal volume fraction in the composite. The findings demonstrate that LSPR coupling effects significantly influence the LSPR intensity of nanocrystals in the composite when the nanocrystal-to-nanocrystal distance matches their size. Beyond elucidating the LSPR coupling effect, this study provides insights into the potential use of Cs-HTB nanocrystals for solar control applications. Through the optimization of morphology and film structure, remarkable selectivity is obtained in terms of maintaining good transparency in the visible range while achieving high absorption in the NIR.  相似文献

Hydropeaking hydropower plants are the main source of renewable energy, meeting sub-daily peaks in electricity demand. They induce rapid artificial flow variations, highly variable velocities, drift, and stranding risks for aquatic organisms. In hydropeaking reaches, microhabitat selection likely depends on both present and past hydraulics (flow velocity and water depth); this study aims to assess their relative impact. For this purpose, we used observations of fish abundance in 1,180 microhabitats (507 sampled by electrofishing, 673 by snorkeling) and of invertebrate abundance in 36 microhabitats (hyporheic and benthic) in a medium-sized hydropeaking river. We described past hydraulics of microhabitats over the 15 days preceding sampling, using a 2D hydrodynamic model, by identifying microhabitats dewatering (drying during >10 hr) or with high-velocity conditions (>1.3 m s−1 during >10 hr). Invertebrates guilds (defined based on their selection of present hydraulics in rivers without hydropeaking) responded significantly to past hydraulics, with abundances 3.5–15.3 times lower in dewatering habitats. Selection for present hydraulics by invertebrates was different from that observed in rivers without hydropeaking. For more mobile fish, responses were weaker and different, with a “bank” guild selecting dewatering microhabitats and, secondarily, a “midstream” guild avoiding them. Selection of present hydraulics by fish was similar to that observed in rivers without hydropeaking. Overall, past hydraulics influenced microhabitat selection, with stronger effects on invertebrates and stronger effects of dewatering than of high past velocities. However, high past velocities force fish to move and invertebrates to experience a large range of velocity.  相似文献

An increase in the demand for renewable energy is driving hydropower development and its integration with variable renewable energy sources. When hydropower is produced flexibly from hydropower plants, it causes rapid and frequent artificial flow fluctuations in rivers, a phenomenon known as hydropeaking. Hydropeaking and associated hydrological alterations cause multiple impacts on riverine habitats with cascading effects on ecosystem functioning and structure. Given the significance of its ecological and socio-economic implications, mitigation of hydropeaking requires an inter- and transdisciplinary approach. An interdisciplinary network called HyPeak has been conceived to enrich international research initiatives and support hydropower planning and policy. HyPeak has been founded based on exchange and networking activities linking scientists from several countries where hydropeaking has been widespread for decades and numerous studies dedicated to the topic have been carried out. HyPeak aims to integrate members from other countries and continents in which hydropower production plays a relevant role, and grow to be a reference group that provides expert advice on the topic to policy-makers, as well as researchers, stakeholders, and practitioners in the field of hydropeaking.  相似文献
