We studied the rates of gelation and phase separation of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) solutions in mixtures of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and water at 25 °C and found that both the rates show a maximum at a volume fraction of DMSO φDMSO=0.60 while gelation was not observed either in pure DMSO or pure water, suggesting that water-DMSO is a cononsolvent system for PVA. On the basis of the data by Cowie [Can J Chem 36 (1961) 2240] we concluded that the 1:2 stable complex between one DMSO molecule and two water molecules is the main cause of this cononsolvency. 相似文献

Cardiotoxicity of interferon-alpha or gamma, such as fatal arrhythmia and myocardial infarction, has been reported. Therefore cardiotoxicity of interferon should be seriously considered before administration for patients with a pre-existing heart disease. We treated a patient with chronic active hepatitis type B, coexisted with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, who has had frequent attacks of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. To prevent the occurrence of fatal arrhythmia with an interferon therapy in this patient, we performed radiofrequency catheter ablation of the Kent bundle. Complement activation generally does not occur on homologous cells. We observed C3 deposition on cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) when those which had died of apoptosis were treated with human serum. The C3 deposition on apoptotic HUVEC required Mg2+ but not Ca2+. In addition, the incubation of apoptotic HUVEC with purified C3, B, and D in the presence of Mg2+ resulted in C3 deposition. These results indicated that the C3 deposition on apoptotic HUVEC is mediated by the activation of the alternative complement pathway. C3 contains an intrachain thioester bond in the alpha chain (110 kDa) and upon activation to C3b, binds with membrane molecules by forming an ester or amide bond. Western blotting of reduced C3b-membrane molecule complexes, isolated from serum-treated apoptotic HUVEC by immunoprecipitation with anti-C3, revealed the covalent binding of C3b to several membrane molecules. Most of the C3b-membrane molecule complexes were cleaved by hydroxylamine, suggesting covalent binding via an ester bond. The molecular mass of the major alpha chain fragment released by hydroxylamine treatment was not 105 kDa but 68 kDa, which corresponds to the alpha 1 fragment of iC3b. These results indicate that most of the C3b on HUVEC was cleaved at its alpha' chain to yield iC3b, which consists of three disulfide-linked polypeptide chains and is a ligand of the complement receptor type 3 (CR3) of phagocytes. These results suggest that apoptotic HUVEC can activate the alternative pathway of the homologous complement and that the complement is related to the clearance of apoptotic cells by phagocytes. 相似文献

A computer program system was developed to predict carbohydrate-bindingsites on three-dimensional (3D) protein structures. The programssearch for binding sites by referring to the empirical rulesderived from the known 3D structures of carbohydrateproteincomplexes. A total of 80 non-redundant carbohydrateproteincomplex structures were selected from the Protein Data Bankfor the empirical rule construction. The performance of theprediction system was tested on 50 known complex structuresto determine whether the system could detect the known bindingsites. The known monosaccharide-binding sites were detectedamong the best three predictions in 59% of the cases, whichcovered 69% of the polysaccharide-binding sites in the targetproteins, when the performance was evaluated by the overlapbetween residue patches of predicted and known binding sites. Abnormality of growth hormone (GH) receptor (GHR) and signal transduction system is a cause of primary GH insensitivity. Analysis of GHR gene have shown so far about 30 different kinds of mainly homozygous mutations in patients with Laron syndrome and heterozygous mutations in some patients with idiopathic short stature. In this paper, we review these diverse clinical and molecular characteristics of abnormal GHR gene in patients with GH insensitivity including our patient of Laron syndrome caused by novel compound heterozygous mutations and of familial short stature with high serum GHBP levels caused by a heterozygous splice site mutation of the GHR gene producing a lack of cytoplasmic domain. 相似文献

In this paper, we propose a multi-agent learning system for the control of an intelligent robot, based on a model of the human
consciousnesses, including the ego. We pay attention to the intelligent learning processes of human beings. We try to give
a robot a high learning ability by modeling the roles of the human consciousnesses, including the ego. In most ordinary methods,
the instructions for learning are given from outside the system only. In the proposed method, the instructions are given not
only from outside, but also from inside (from other agents in the system). Therefore, the robot can learn efficiently because
it has more instructions than usual. The learning is also more flexible, since an agent learns by instructions from other
agents while the learning agent and one of the instructing agents exchange roles according to changes in the environment.
We experimentally verified that the proposed method is efficient by using an actual robot. 相似文献

This research was aimed at making a robot that can go and get an object designated by the user. We produced a robot control
system that uses pointing and voice control. This control system is composed of two systems. One system is the object instruction
system that uses pointing, and the other is the object instruction system that uses voice. The approximate position of a designated
object is recognized by the object instruction system that uses pointing, and information about the object and instructions
about the operation are conveyed by the object instruction system that uses voice. This time, the object instruction system
that uses pointing has been designed and verified as the first step. A calculation resource to calculate the approximate position
of the designated object is obtained when the user points directly at the object. A robot can be moved around a designated

We propose to redesign a neural network used as a motion generator with bimanual coordination for upper limb prosthesis in
order to improve its learning capability. We assumed that the wearer of the prosthesis was a unilateral amputee. In our previous
work, we proposed a prosthesis control system using a neural network that learned bimanual coordination in order to implement
smooth motion with both hands. However, the previously proposed system has the problem that a neural network cannot generate
the desired motion of the prosthesis in special cases. The reason is that the motion generator calculates the desired posture
of the prosthesis from the current posture of the healthy arm only, regardless of the current posture of the prosthesis. We
propose to use the current posture of both the healthy arm and the prosthesis as neural network inputs in order to solve this
problem. In this article, we show that a single neural network whose input was the current posture of both arms could learn
the relationships of the coordinated motions of holding boxes of different sizes, and the newly proposed system can calculate
the desired motion of the prosthesis in special cases through computer simulations. 相似文献

This paper presents an algebraic approach to polynomial spectral factorization, an important mathematical tool in signal processing and control. The approach exploits an intriguing relationship between the theory of Gröbner bases and polynomial spectral factorization which can be observed through the sum of roots, and allows us to perform polynomial spectral factorization in the presence of real parameters. It is discussed that parametric polynomial spectral factorization enables us to express quantities such as the optimal cost in terms of parameters and the sum of roots. Furthermore an optimization method over parameters is suggested that makes use of the results from parametric polynomial spectral factorization and also employs two quantifier elimination techniques.
