The environmental stability in distilled water and the failure mechanism of cathodically chromated tin, lead, and lead/tin alloy joints bonded with an ethylene–acrylic acid copolymer have been investigated by T-peel tests and ESCA and SEM analyses of the fractured surfaces. The peel strength of chromated lead/tin alloy joints and of both untreated and chromated tin joints is kept unchanged with water immersion, whereas that of untreated lead/tin alloy joints and of both untreated and chromated lead joints decreases rapidly with water immersion. ESCA and SEM observations show that lead/tin alloy surfaces consist of both lead and tin phases and that the tin phase interface deteriorates gradually with water immersion after premature deterioration of the lead phase interface. The stabilization effect of chromate treatments for lead/tin alloy joints is due to retardation of the underfilm corrosion of the tin phase.  相似文献

The potential of the water-immersion and dry-contact acoustic imaging techniques for detecting nanometer gaps embedded in silicon is studied. A technique to determine a trace amount of hydrogen in carbon materials heat-treated above 1000 °C was developed. Three types of carbons prepared from poly(furfulyl alcohol), poly(vinyl chloride) and mesophase carbon microbeads were heat-treated at various temperatures ranging from 1000 to 1800 °C. Then they were gasified by O2 in a fixed bed flow reactor, and the H2O gases formed during the gasification processes were carefully monitored with a Karl Fischer moisture analyzer. As a result, this method makes it possible to determine the hydrogen contents in the carbons down to three places of decimals as a weight percent and can detect even a trace amount of hydrogen as low as 0.002 wt.%. A possible chemical structure of carbon edge sites was also discussed based on the experimentally determined hydrogen contents.  相似文献

We demonstrated attenuated total reflection (ATR) spectroscopy with an integrated prism system that included a terahertz emitter, a terahertz receiver, and an ATR prism. The ATR prism had two internal off-axis parabolic mirrors for, respectively, collimating and focusing the terahertz waves. The Fresnel loss at each interface was reduced, and the total propagation efficiency was 3.36 times larger than when using a non-integrated prism system. The refractive index of water samples calculated from the experimental data showed good agreement with values reported in the literature.  相似文献

Ionic liquid is a kind of salt that stays in a molten state even at room temperature. It does not vaporize at all in vacuum and facilitates electrical conductivity to the sample surfaces for observations with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). In this study, we used an ionic liquid in SEM for the first time to observe fixed human culture cells. The condition for the cell culture using wrapping sheets and SEM settings were varied to elucidate the optimized protocol. Compared to samples prepared by the conventional way, the ionic liquid‐treatment of samples gave SEM images of the cellular ultra structures in more detail, enabling observation of microvilli that made bridges between separated cells. In addition, the ionic liquid treatment is less time consuming as well as less laborious compared with the conventional way that includes dehydration, drying, and conductivity treatments. Summary Multi-step precipitation separation system was developed by using aqueous mixtures of some thermosensitive polymers. The following three polymers were used here; poly(N-n-propylacrylamide), poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), and poly(N-isopropylmethacrylamide). A mixture of the three polymers showed three endothermic peaks, and the peak top temperatures were almost consistent with that of the each polymer solution. The polymers were purified by thermal precipitation to obtain fractions which can respond in narrow temperature ranges prior to use. In the case of the precipitation separation of two polymers mixtures, purities of the obtained precipitate and supernatant fractions became high comparing with the case in which the unpurified polymers were used. Parts of the polymers which were not the precipitation targets were also precipitated by the separation procedures. This was caused not only by insolubilization of the non-targeted polymers due to their phase transitions but also by their non-specific entanglement with the targeted polymers. The purities of the fractions also improved when the difference of the phase transition temperature between two polymers was large enough to avoid the coprecipitation. In the case of the precipitation separation of mixtures of the three polymers, purities of each fraction also improved when the purified polymers were used.  相似文献

This paper describes a technique for measuring the thickness of the back side coating of a double-sided coated structure using acoustic resonance. The technique is used to observe the resonant frequency of high frequency ultrasound for a steel/coating/air structure. The resonant frequency of the transmitted ultrasound occurs when a quarter wavelength corresponds to the thickness of the back side coating, and the reflection coefficient has a minimum value. The top surfaces of the samples are covered with a coating about 30 μm thick and the thickness of the back side coating is in the range of 10.3-17.5 μm. The resonant frequencies for the examined samples are observed in the frequency range of 46.8-75.6 MHz, and the thickness of the back side coating can be accurately determined from the measured resonant frequency. Note that the coating on the top surface of the structure does not affect the thickness measurement accuracy of the back side coating.  相似文献

Plane deformation of anisotropic beams with narrow rectangular cross sections exhibits coupling of stretching, bending and transverse shearing. For anisotropic cantilever beams with a stiff end-cap under end forces and an end couple, assessments were made for approximate solutions by comparing these with numerically exact finite element (FE) solutions. Specific attention is given to point-wise or approximate satisfaction of the end-fixity conditions. As approximate methodologies, (i) the elementary polynomial form of Airy's stress function for the plane stress problem in a rectangular region, (ii) a Timoshenko-type beam theory, and (iii) the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory were selected. Among these, only the polynomial form of Airy's stress function violates the point-wise end-fixity conditions. Both the polynomial Airy stress function and the Timoshenko-type beam theory successfully model the effects of transverse shear deformation and the coupling of stretching and transverse deflection. Analytical solutions demonstrate that the normal shear coupling effect increases linearly with the thickness-to-span ratios in axial normal stress and axial displacement, while the coupling manifests quadratically in transverse displacement. The comparison of end displacements with the numerically exact FE solutions indicates that the polynomial form of Airy's stress function is no better than the Timoshenko-type beam theory. Similar conclusions were reached for the problem of uniformly loaded cantilever beams. It has been found that the accurate prediction of the deformation of thick anisotropic beams with significant normal-shear coupling requires the use of higher order theories.  相似文献
