Providing precise estimations of soil deformation modulus is very difficult due to its dependence on many factors. In this study, gene expression programming (GEP) and multi-expression programming (MEP) systems are presented to derive empirical equations for the prediction of the pressuremeter soil deformation modulus. The employed expression programming (EP) systems formulate the soil deformation modulus in terms of the soil physical properties. Selection of the best models is on the basis of developing and controlling several models with different combinations of the affecting parameters. The proposed EP-based models are established upon 114 pressuremeter tests on different soil types conducted in this study. The generalization capabilities of the models are verified using several statistical criteria. Contributions of the variables influencing the soil modulus are evaluated through a sensitivity analysis. The GEP and MEP approaches accurately characterize the soil deformation modulus resulting in a very good prediction performance. The result indicates that moisture content and soil dry unit weight can efficiently represent the initial state and consolidation history of soil for determining its modulus. 相似文献

People without disabilities seamlessly control devices with their hands. Interestingly, their hands can perform coarse and fine control. Implementing smooth control for computerized systems is not straightforward and most of the time it is not intuitive either. Here we offer a solution to that problem: smooth control through humming. Voice commands have become ubiquitous in modern technology. Speech-to-text applications abound. Smooth control, on the other hand, has not been tackled yet. Here we design and implement a humming control technique, and demonstrate a hardware implementation with a powered wheelchair. Once actuated, the speed with which the chair moves will depend on the subtle variation on the fundamental frequency of the user's humming, acquired through an accelerometer measuring vocal cord vibration. We also discuss two signal processing techniques that handle commonly encountered issues when trying to resolve frequencies in real time data. The hardware implementation shows performance of 80% and higher in speech recognition for signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) higher than 8 dB and 100% in smooth control and frequency detection for all tested SNRs. In the present study, integration of equal channel angular pressing (ECAP), as a well known severe plastic deformation (SPD) technique, and torsion deformation, is studied by using three dimensional finite element analysis. This process is to be named as torsional-equal channel angular pressing (T-ECAP). In this modification a part of the exit channel in the ECAP die is rotating around its axis, to impose extra shear strains to the samples. To study deformation behavior in the T-ECAP process, three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) was carried out by using the elasto-plastic finite element analysis ABAQUS/Explicit Simulation. To investigate the validity of the simulation results, experimental studies were furthermore performed on commercially pure aluminum (AA 1050). Vickers hardness test was used to determine the distribution of hardness on both normal and longitudinal sections of the deformed samples with respect to the exit channel of the die. The hardness test results showed more uniform distribution of hardness in both sections of the T-ECAP processed samples regarding the ones produced by ECAP process. The load requirement comparison for performing both processes showed lower value for the T-ECAP with respect to the ECAP process. The simulation results for the strain values showed higher magnitude and more uniform distribution for the T-ECAP with respect to the ECAP process. 相似文献

In this paper the behavior of steel pipes, filled and unfilled with concrete, is studied under cyclic shear to examine the possibility of their use as a seismic damper. Two specimens of steel pipes filled inside with concrete are tested under monotonic and cyclic shear. Four other specimens of bare steel pipes are tested under fully reversed cyclic shear loading. The results show that the bare steel pipes are capable of absorbing a great amount of energy under a severe cyclic shear loading with a stable hysteretic behavior. This behavior is also simulated using the finite element method. Then, parametric studies are performed to investigate the effects of variations in geometrical properties of the pipe on its hysteretic behavior. A simplified bi-linear model is proposed to approximate the hysteretic behavior of the steel pipe as a metallic-yielding damper. 相似文献

In the present work, a quantitative phase-field approach is introduced to study the phase-coarsening phenomena in solder alloys, Pb-Sn alloy here. The most important part of this work is to introduce a simple and versatile approach to quantify the experimental and simulation data, without putting into difficulties corresponding to the stochastic nature of phenomenon, in order to compute unknown physical data required to perform numerical simulation. For this purpose, at first, the evolution of microstructure vs. time is studied experimentally by the conventional optical microscopy. Then, unknown physical data, the interface mobility here, is computed by fitting the time evolution of the total interface perimeter of the simulation results to that of the experimental data. In fact, by this approach, the physical data is computed such that it will be applied to predict reality in the subsequent simulations, i.e., the presented method can be accounted as the calibration of the corresponding mathematical model and numerical method. Most structures with masonry infills that are continuous along their height, which are interrupted in the lowest storey, are damaged by earthquakes. These structures are anticipated to collapse due to the undesirable soft‐storey mechanism formed by lateral stiffness of masonry infills in other storeys. The seismic design criteria of UBC97 code for special moment‐resisting steel frame (SMRSF) are reviewed. In this paper, a new criterion for seismic design of such structures is presented. The proposed criteria are used to design three SMRSFs: 5, 8 and 15 storeys. Nonlinear time‐history dynamic analyses are applied for the designed SMRSFs based on the proposed criteria. Factors such as inhibitor concentration, solution hydrodynamics, and temperature influence the performance of corrosion inhibitor mixtures. The simultaneous studying of the impact of different factors is a time- and cost-consuming process. The use of experimental design methods can be useful in minimizing the number of experiments and finding local optimized conditions for factors under the investigation. In the present work, the inhibition performance of a three-component inhibitor mixture against corrosion of St37 steel rotating disk electrode, RDE, was studied. The mixture was composed of citric acid, lanthanum(III) nitrate, and tetrabutylammonium perchlorate. In order to decrease the number of experiments, the L16 Taguchi orthogonal array was used. The “control factors” were the concentration of each component and the rotation rate of RDE and the “response factor” was the inhibition efficiency. The scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy techniques verified the formation of islands of adsorbed citrate complexes with lanthanum ions and insoluble lanthanum(III) hydroxide. From the Taguchi analysis results the mixture of 0.50 mM lanthanum(III) nitrate, 0.50 mM citric acid, and 2.0 mM tetrabutylammonium perchlorate under the electrode rotation rate of 1000 rpm was found as optimum conditions. 相似文献
