Hexagonal boron nitride (hex BN) containing significant amounts of C and O substituting for N (hex BCNO) was synthesized at 75 kbar and 1700°C from mixtures of C, B2O3, and amorphous B contained in a hex BN crucible. Hex BCNO is a minor constituent of the product and occurs as small, <30 nm diameter, rounded pseudohexagonal particles adhering to materials with the α-rhombohedral B structure. Electron energy-loss spectroscopy with a transmission electron microscope was used to quantify their elemental ratios. Up to 50% of the N in hex BN is replaced by C and O, e.g., BN0.49O0.38C0.11. The electron energy-loss near-edge fine structure of the core-loss edges was used to elucidate the possible structures of hex BCNO. The core-loss edges of B, C, N, and O exhibit orientation-dependent intensity changes, which indicates that they occupy similar anisotropic bonding sites in graphite-like BCNO layers. For a composition of BN0.5O0.4C0.1, regions with B–N3, B–N2O, and B–NO2 units predominate. In addition, some grains have significant quantities of B–O3 and B–C3 units. Boron–boron bonding is either absent or infrequent.  相似文献

Several Ka-band spatial-amplifier power combiners and their free-space feeds were characterized using a high-resolution extreme-near-field electrooptic measurement technique. The two-dimensional electric-field amplitude and phase maps obtained from several arrays are presented. The usefulness of the technique for diagnostic purposes during the design and prototyping stages of the active arrays is discussed. In particular, the electrooptic maps were shown to be valuable for making improvements in the bias line design in one case, and for isolating faulty unit cells in another case  相似文献

Targeted disruption of mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) gene results in pseudohypoaldosteronism type I with failure to thrive, severe dehydration, hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, and high plasma levels of renin, angiotensin II, and aldosterone. In this study, mRNA expression of the different components of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) were evaluated in liver, lung, heart, kidney and adrenal gland to assess their response to a state of extreme sodium depletion. Angiotensinogen, renin, angiotensin-I converting enzyme, and angiotensin II receptor (AT1 and AT2) mRNA expressions were determined by Northern blot and RT-PCR analysis. Furthermore, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry allowed us to identify the cell types involved in the variation of the RAS component expression. In the heterozygous mice (MR+/-), compared with wild-type mice (MR+/+), there was no significant variation of any mRNA of the RAS components. In MR knockout mice (MR-/-), compared with wild-type mice, there were significant increases in the expression level of several RAS components. In the liver, angiotensinogen and AT1 receptor mRNA expressions were moderately stimulated. In the kidney, renin mRNA was increased up to 10-fold and in situ hybridization showed a marked recruitment of renin-producing cells; however, the levels of angiotensin-I converting enzyme mRNA and AT1 mRNA were not changed. Interestingly, in adrenal gland, renin expression was also strongly up-regulated in a thickened zona glomerulosa, whereas AT1 mRNA expression remained unchanged. Altogether, these results demonstrate that in the MR knockout mice model, RAS component expressions are differentially altered, renin being the most stimulated component. Angiotensinogen and AT1 in the liver are also increased, but the other elements of the RAS are not affected.  相似文献

Subject-performed tasks (SPTs; i.e., carrying out the actions during study) improve free recall of action phrases without enhancing relational information. By this mechanism, items pop into a person's mind without active search, and this process especially extends the recency effect. The authors demonstrated the existence of the extended recency effect and its importance for the SPT recall advantage (Experiments 1 and 2). Carrying out the action and not semantic processing caused the effect (Experiment 3). The extended recency effect was also not a consequence of a deliberate last-in, first-out strategy (Experiment 4), and performing a difficult secondary task (an arithmetic task) during recall reduced memory performances but did not influence the extended recency effect (Experiment 5). These data support the theory that performing actions during study enhances the efficiency of an automatic pop-out mechanism in free recall. The accelerating process of globalization and the increasing interconnections between cultures involve an unprecedented challenge to contemporary psychology. In apparent contrast to these trends, academic mainstream conceptions continue to work in a tradition of cultural dichotomies (e.g., individualistic vs. collectivistic, independent vs. interdependent), reflecting a classificatory approach to culture and self. Three developments are presented that challenge this approach: (a) cultural connections leading to hybridization, (b) the emergence of a heterogeneous global system, and (c) the increasing cultural complexity. By elaborating on these challenges, a basic assumption of cross-cultural psychology is questioned: culture as geographically localized. Finally, 3 themes are described as examples of an alternative approach: a focus on the contact zones of cultures rather than on their center, the complexities of self and identity, and the experience of uncertainty. In situ small‐angle X‐ray scattering of high density polyethylene under uni‐axial tensile test was used for investigating the deformation at the scale of the periodic crystalline–amorphous nano‐structure. The more or less uniform elastic straining of the rubbery amorphous layers is discussed in terms of mechanically active intercrystalline tie chains. Correlation is made with the long‐term use properties. It is concluded that this approach is a powerful means to assess the mechanical efficiency of tie molecules. An apparatus has been developed for the measurement of thermal conductivity of polymer melts. Based on the transient “line source method,” it is ideally suited to these materials because measurements can be made quickly, before the onset of thermal degradation.
