Batch emulsion copolymerization of vinyl acetate and 2‐ethyl hexyl acrylate (VAc/2EHA = 90 : 10) was initiated by the thermal initiators ammonium persulfate and potassium persulfate at 70°C in the presence of nonylphenol ethoxylates with varying chain lengths and poly(vinyl alcohol). VAc–2EHA copolymer latexes were synthesized as two different series in a loop reactor. The first series was initiated by ammonium persulfate, and the second series was initiated by potassium persulfate. The influence of the counterions or initiators and chain lengths of a nonionic emulsifier on the properties of VAc–2EHA copolymer latexes were determined by measuring the viscosities, weight‐average molecular weights, number‐average molecular weights, molecular weight distribution, and surface tension of latexes to air. The results for the copolymer latexes indicated that some of their physicochemical properties increased with increasing chain length of the nonionic emulsifier, but some of them followed a different trend for the two initiators. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, titanium dioxide (TiO2) was used as coating compound to add self-cleaning and antibacterial functionality properties to the cotton fabric. TiO2-consisting coating compounds were prepared at four different processing temperatures (20, 40, 60, and 80°C) in order to examine the influence of process temperature on average particle size. Among the prepared solutions, the one prepared at 80°C process temperature was selected for the dip coating application of the 100% cotton fabric, which formed a transparent nanosized TiO2 film on the fibrous structure of fabric. Dip coating trials were done at five coating temperatures of 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100°C. TiO2-coated and uncoated fabric samples were then tested to evaluate their self-cleaning and antibacterial activities. A self-cleaning activity test was conducted using uncoated and TiO2-coated fabric samples which were stained with hot tea solution via dipping method. Stained fabric samples were illuminated under a solar simulator for the color changes to measure photocatalytic degradation of stain colors. Antibacterial performance of TiO2-coated and uncoated fabric samples was determined against pure cultures of Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213.  相似文献

Mobile learning or m-learning, a relatively new concept, has attracted the interest of educators, researchers, and companies developing learning systems and instructional materials. This study investigated the use of integrating use of mobile technologies, data services, and multimedia messaging systems to increase students’ use of mobile technologies and to develop environmental awareness. Data was collected using “usefulness of mobile learning systems” questionnaire from a sample consisting of 20 male and 21 female undergraduates enrolled in computer education and instructional technologies classes at the Near East University in North Cyprus. Students voluntarily participated in a six-week program using mobile telephones to transmit photographs of local environmental blights and to exchange pictures and observations. Participants learned ways to maintain clean environments and increased their awareness of environmental concerns. Responses on questionnaire differed significantly based upon gender and grade.  相似文献
