Fluorescent probes that exhibit solvatochromic or excited-state proton-transfer (ESPT) properties are essential tools for the study of complex biological or chemical systems. Herein, the synthesis and characterization of a novel fluorophore that reveals both features, 5-isocyanonaphthalene-1-ol (ICOL), are reported. Various solvatochromic methods, such as Lippert–Mataga and Bilot–Kawski, together with time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) and time-resolved emission spectroscopy (TRES), were applied to gain insights into its excited-state behavior. To make comparisons, the octyloxy derivative of ICOL, 5-isocyano-1-(octyloxy)naphthalene (ICON), was also prepared. We found that internal charge transfer (ICT) takes place between the isocyano and –OH groups of ICOL, and we determined the values of the dipole moments for the ground and excited states of both ICOL and ICON. Furthermore, in the emission spectra of ICOL, a second band at higher wavelengths (green emission) in solvents of higher polarities (dual emission), in addition to the band present at lower wavelengths (blue emission), were observed. The extent of this dual emission increases in the order of 2-propanol < methanol < N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) < dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The presence of the dual fluorescence of ICOL in these solvents can be ascribed to ESPT. For ICOL, we also determined ground- and excited-state pKa values of 8.4 ± 0.3 and 0.9 ± 0.7, respectively, which indicates a considerable increase in acidity upon excitation. The TRES experiments showed that the excited-state lifetimes of the ICOL and ICON spanned from 10.1 ns to 5.0 ns and from 5.7 ns to 3.8 ns, respectively. In addition, we demonstrated that ICOL can be used as an effective indicator of not only the critical micelle concentration (cmc) of ionic (sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)) and nonionic surfactants (Tween 80), but also other micellar parameters, such as partition coefficients, as well as to map the microenvironments in the cavities of biomacromolecules (e.g., BSA). It is also pointed out that fluorescence quenching by pyridine can effectively be utilized for the determination of the fractions of ICOL molecules that reside at the water–micelle interface and in the interior spaces of micelles.  相似文献

Small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) have been demonstrated to interact with lipids and modulate the physical state of membranes across species. Through these interactions, sHSPs contribute to the maintenance of membrane integrity. HSPB1 is a major sHSP in mammals, but its lipid interaction profile has so far been unexplored. In this study, we characterized the interaction between HSPB1 and phospholipids. HSPB1 not only associated with membranes via membrane-forming lipids, but also showed a strong affinity towards highly fluid membranes. It participated in the modulation of the physical properties of the interacting membranes by altering rotational and lateral lipid mobility. In addition, the in vivo expression of HSPB1 greatly affected the phase behavior of the plasma membrane under membrane fluidizing stress conditions. In light of our current findings, we propose a new function for HSPB1 as a membrane chaperone.  相似文献

Our long-term objective is to develop a software toolbox for pre-embodiment design of complex and heterogeneous systems, such as cyber-physical systems. The novelty of this toolbox is that it uses system manifestation features (SMFs) for transdisciplinary modeling of these systems. The main challenges of implementation of the toolbox are functional design- and language-independent computational realization of the warehouses, and systematic development and management of the various evolving implements of SMFs (genotypes, phenotypes, and instances). Therefore, an information schema construct (ISC) based approach is proposed to create the schemata of the associated warehouse databases and the above-mentioned SMF implements. ISCs logically arrange the data contents of SMFs in a set of relational tables of varying semantics. In this article we present the ISCs necessary for creation of genotypes and phenotypes. They increase the efficiency of the database development process and make the data relationships transparent. Our follow-up research focuses on the elaboration of the SMF instances based system modeling methodology.  相似文献

Continuous synthesis of TiBx (x≈0.5–2) nanoparticles from various low cost solid precursors such as titanium and titanium dioxide admixed with boron and/or carbon in radiofrequency thermal plasma was studied. Feasibility of TiB2 formation was predicted by thermodynamic equilibrium calculations in the 500–5000 K temperature range. In all the investigated system high temperature reactions resulted in nanometer-sized TiBx powders with a mean size varying between 13 and 83 nm. The yield of particular runs ranged from 38% to 97%. Among the synthesized products in addition to TiBx, oxidized precursor residues were also found in smaller quantities. Although addition of carbon to the precursors could not completely prevent surface oxidation of boride particles, it contributed to the reduction of the mean particle size of the formed TiB2.  相似文献

The pyrolysis of COS has been studied over the temperature range 300 to 750°C using a variety of catalysts. The observed product distribution confirmed that two parallel reaction paths: 2 COS → 2 CO S2 (2) and 2 COS → CO2 + CS2 (4) are involved in the decomposition. The decomposition yield increased with rising temperature, accompanied with a shift in selectivity. At temperatures lower than ~700°C the disproportionation reaction 4 was predominant, whereas at temperatures higher than 700°C, reaction 2 was favoured. In the high-temperature region (700 to 750°C) it was possible to achieve full suppression of reaction 4 with added CS2. The pyrolysis of COS was also studied in a reactor packed with quartz chips without catalysts at high temperatures. Between 800 and 900°C, up to 99% conversion (with respect to the thermodynamic limit) could be achieved, with the almost complete absence of the disproportionation reaction 4. The results point to the commercial potential in the two-step reaction sequence: for the economic conversion of hydrogen sulfide to hydrogen and sulfur.  相似文献

Metal matrix syntactic foam (MMSF) blocks were produced by an inert gas-assisted pressure infiltration technique. MMSFs are advanced hollow sphere reinforced-composite materials having promising application in the fields of aviation, transport, and automotive engineering, as well as in civil engineering. The produced blocks were investigated in free and constrained compression modes, and besides the characteristic mechanical properties, their deformation mechanisms and failure modes were studied. In the tests, the chemical composition of the matrix material, the size of the reinforcing ceramic hollow spheres, the applied heat treatment, and the compression mode were considered as investigation parameters. The monitored mechanical properties were the compressive strength, the fracture strain, the structural stiffness, the fracture energy, and the overall absorbed energy. These characteristics were strongly influenced by the test parameters. By the proper selection of the matrix and the reinforcement and by proper design, the mechanical properties of the MMSFs can be effectively tailored for specific and given applications.  相似文献

Metamaterials with negative compressibility are a very promising group of novel materials with a wide variety of potential application. A recent model proposed construction of the structures with three-dimensional negative compressibility by utilizing successive destabilization of stable or metastable states and inducing phase transitions mimicking negative compressibility. Here, we would like to show that similar concept is used by the nature and a nice example of this kind of metamaterial can be seen even in a glass of water.  相似文献

Cancer is one of the most destructive and lethal illnesses of the modern civilization. In the last decades, clinical cancer research shifted toward molecular targeted therapies which have limited side effects in comparison to conventional chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Antiangiogenic therapy is one of the most promising cancer treatment methods. The dynamical model for tumor growth under angiogenic stimulator/inhibitor control was posed by Hahnfeldt et al. in 1999; it was investigated and partly modified many times. In this paper, a modified version of the originally published model is used to describe a continuous infusion therapy. In order to generalize individualized therapies a robust control method is proposed using H methodology. Uncertainty weighting functions are determined based on the real pathophysiological case and simulations are performed on different tumor volumes to demonstrate the robustness of the proposed method.  相似文献
