White light reflectance spectroscopy is applied to monitor vapor‐induced thickness changes of polymer films, supported on suitable silicon substrates. Assuming unidirectional swelling due to the constraining support, the equilibrium volume swelling of four methacrylic polymers and two siloxane‐based copolymers upon exposure to various activities of water, methanol, ethanol, and ethyl acetate vapor, at 30°C is evaluated. The deduced sorption isotherms were fitted to the Flory‐Huggins equation and interaction parameters, as well as solubility coefficients at infinite solute dilution, were deduced for each binary system. The relative sorption capacity of the different classes of polymers toward the four vapors are in line with the expected solubility interactions between solvent and solute. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The influence of alteration on the physico-mechanical properties of dolerites from the Pindos and Vourinos ophiolites, northern Greece, is investigated. Quantitative petrographic analysis shows that the samples display various percentages of secondary minerals. Two new micropetrographic indices are calculated from the results of petrographic modal analysis for the engineering assessment of dolerites: the micropetrographic strength index Ips and the replacement index Irep. The samples are also tested to determine water absorption, apparent density, total porosity, sand equivalent, uniaxial compressive strength, Los Angeles abrasion value, aggregate impact value, aggregate abrasion value and polished stone value. The influence of alteration on the rock quality and especially the relationships between the proposed micropetrographic indices and the engineering parameters are determined using regression analysis and the derived equations were verified by the t-test and the F-test. The relationships between the Ips and Irep indices and the engineering properties show that alteration products generally result in mechanically weaker rocks. However, the results of the physico-mechanical tests indicate that dolerites retain their strength and durability due to the low proportions of soft minerals and microcracks, along with the preservation of their igneous textures. The polishing resistance is the only engineering parameter that is positively affected by alteration processes, as expressed by the Ips index. Particularly, the replacement of the primary mafic minerals by secondary minerals, expressed by the Irep index, can enhance the polishing resistance of dolerites when used in the wearing surface of a road. The results also indicate strong positive correlations between the chlorite content and the water absorption and total porosity values. 相似文献

Recent advances in semantic image analysis have brought forth generic methodologies to support concept learning at large scale. The attained performance however is highly variable, reflecting effects related to similarities and variations in the visual manifestations of semantically distinct concepts, much as to the limitations issuing from considering semantics solely in the form of perceptual representations. Aiming to enhance performance and improve robustness, we investigate a fuzzy DLs-based reasoning framework, which enables the integration of scene and object classifications into a semantically consistent interpretation by capturing and utilising the underlying semantic associations. Evaluation with two sets of input classifiers, configured so as to vary with respect to the wealth of concepts’ interrelations, outlines the potential of the proposed approach in the presence of semantically rich associations, while delineating the issues and challenges involved. 相似文献

To investigate the effect of leptin in childhood ITP, we measured plasma leptin in 39 children with acute ITP, after treatment and in remission, and in 33 healthy age/BMI-matched controls. We also cultured ITP and control peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) with recombinant leptin to assess its direct effect on pro/anti-inflammatory cytokine gene expression. A significant increase in leptin was observed in children with active disease compared to controls. A significant inverse correlation of leptin with platelet count was also observed in children with acute ITP. Leptin remained high after treatment with IVIg, whereas steroid treatment lowered leptin below control levels. In remission, leptin was in the control range. Cytokine gene expression was significantly increased in children with acute ITP compared with controls, with highest expression for IFN-γ and IL-10. IVIg/steroid treatment significantly decreased IFN-γ and IL-10 expression. In remission, IFN-γ and IL-10 expression remained low. Addition of leptin to PBMCs isolated from patients in remission resulted in a significant increase in IL-10 gene expression compared to controls. Further experiments with purified T-cells and monocytes identified monocytes as the source of leptin-induced IL-10. We suggest that leptin acts as an active anti-inflammatory agent in childhood ITP by promoting IL-10 secretion by monocytes. 相似文献

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an important global public health problem due to its high prevalence and morbidity. Although the treatment of nephrology patients has changed considerably, ineffectiveness and side effects of medications represent a major issue. In an effort to elucidate the contribution of genetic variants located in several genes in the response to treatment of patients with CKD, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of all available pharmacogenetics studies. The association between genotype distribution and response to medication was examined using the dominant, recessive, and additive inheritance models. Subgroup analysis based on ethnicity was also performed. In total, 29 studies were included in the meta-analysis, which examined the association of 11 genes (16 polymorphisms) with the response to treatment regarding CKD. Among the 29 studies, 18 studies included patients with renal transplantation, 8 involved patients with nephrotic syndrome, and 3 studies included patients with lupus nephritis. The present meta-analysis provides strong evidence for the contribution of variants harbored in the ABCB1, IL-10, ITPA, MIF, and TNF genes that creates some genetic predisposition that reduces effectiveness or is associated with adverse events of medications used in CKD. 相似文献

ZnO deposition in porous γ-Al2O3 via atomic layer deposition (ALD) is the critical first step for the fabrication of zeolitic imidazolate framework membranes using the ligand-induced perm-selectivation process (Science, 361 (2018), 1008–1011). A detailed computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the ALD reactor is developed using a finite-volume-based code and validated. It accounts for the transport processes within the feeding system and reaction chamber. The simulated precursor spatiotemporal profiles assuming no ALD reaction were used as boundary conditions in modeling diethylzinc reaction/diffusion in porous γ-Al2O3, the predictions of which agreed with experimental electron microscopy measurements. Further simulations confirmed that the present deposition flux is much less than the upper limit of flux, below which the decoupling of reactor/substrate is an accurate assumption. The modeling approach demonstrated here allows for the design of ALD processes for thin-film membrane formation including the synthesis of metal–organic framework membranes. 相似文献

Despite the fact that most lipases are believed to be active against triacylglycerides, there is a small group of lipases that are active only on mono‐ and diacylglycerides. The reason for this difference in substrate scope is not clear. We tried to identify the reasons for this in the lipase from Malassezia globosa. By protein engineering, and with only one mutation, we managed to convert this enzyme into a typical triacylglycerol lipase (the wild‐type lipase does not accept triacylglycerides). The variant Q282L accepts a broad spectrum of triacylglycerides, although the catalytic behavior is altered to some extent. From in silico analysis it seems that specific hydrophobic interactions are key to the altered substrate specificity. 相似文献
