The MEGAPIE project aimed to design, build and operate a liquid metal spallation neutron target of about 1 MW beam power in the SINQ facility at the Paul Scherrer Institut (Villigen, Switzerland). This project is an important step in the roadmap towards the demonstration of the accelerator driven system (ADS) concept and high power liquid metal targets in general. Following the design phase, an experimental program was defined to provide a complete characterization of the facility by performing a “mapping” of the neutron flux at different points, from the center of the target to the beam lines. The neutronic performance of the target was studied using different experimental techniques with the goals of validating the Monte Carlo codes used in the design of the target; additionally, the performance was compared with the solid lead targets used before and after the MEGAPIE experiment. 相似文献

Radon concentration has been monitored from 1995 to 1999 in the soil of the Sur-Frêtes ridge (French Alps), covered with snow from November to April. Measurements were performed at 70 cm depth, with a sampling time of 1 h, at two points: the summit of the ridge, at an altitude of 1792 m, and the bottom of the ridge, at an altitude of 1590 m. On the summit, radon concentration shows a moderate seasonal variation, with a high value from October to April (winter), and a low value from May to September (summer). At the bottom of the ridge, a large and opposite seasonal variation is observed, with a low value in winter and a high value in summer. Fluctuations of the radon concentration seem to be associated with temperature variations, an effect which is largely delusory. Indeed, these variations are actually due to water infiltration. A simplified mixing model is used to show that, at the summit of the ridge, two effects compete in the radon response: a slow infiltration response, rich in radon, with a typical time scale of days, and a fast infiltration of radon-poor rainwater. At the bottom of the ridge, similarly, two groundwater contributions compete: one slow infiltration response, similar to the response seen at the summit, and an additional slower response, with a typical time scale of about a month. This second slower response can be interpreted as the aquifer discharge in response to snow melt. This study shows that, while caution is necessary to properly interpret the various effects, the temporal variations of the radon concentration in soil can be understood reasonably well, and appear to be a sensitive tool to study the subtle interplay of near surface transfer processes of groundwater with different transit times. 相似文献

Because of their ability to naturally float in the air, indoor airships (often called blimps) constitute an appealing platform
for research in aerial robotics. However, when confronted to long lasting experiments such as those involving learning or
evolutionary techniques, blimps present the disadvantage that they cannot be linked to external power sources and tend to
have little mechanical resistance due to their low weight budget. One solution to this problem is to use a realistic flight
simulator, which can also significantly reduce experimental duration by running faster than real time. This requires an efficient
physical dynamic modelling and parameter identification procedure, which are complicated to develop and usually rely on costly
facilities such as wind tunnels. In this paper, we present a simple and efficient physics-based dynamic modelling of indoor
airships including a pragmatic methodology for parameter identification without the need for complex or costly test facilities.
Our approach is tested with an existing blimp in a vision-based navigation task. Neuronal controllers are evolved in simulation
to map visual input into motor commands in order to steer the flying robot forward as fast as possible while avoiding collisions.
After evolution, the best individuals are successfully transferred to the physical blimp, which experimentally demonstrates
the efficiency of the proposed approach.

Protection of bifidobacteria encapsulated in polysaccharide-protein gel beads against gastric juice and bile 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Bifidobacterium cells were encapsulated in a mixed gel composed of alginate, pectin, and whey proteins. Two kinds of capsules were obtained: gel beads without membranes and gel beads with two membranes formed by the transacylation reaction. In vitro studies were carried out to determine the effects of simulated gastric pH and bile salts on the survival of free and encapsulated Bifidobacterium bifidum. The protective effects of gel beads without membranes and gel beads coated with two membranes formed by the transacylation reaction were evaluated. After 1 h in an acidic solution (pH 2.5), the free-cell counts decreased by 4.75 log units, compared with a <1-log decrease for entrapped cells. The free cells did not survive after 2 h of incubation at pH 2.5, while immobilized-cell counts decreased by about 2 log units. After incubation (1 or 3 h) in 2 and 4% bile salt solutions, the bifidobacterium mortality level for membrane-free gel beads (4 to 7 log units) was higher than that for free cells (2 to 3 log units). However, counts of bifidobacteria immobilized in membrane-coated gel beads decreased by <2 log units. Cell encapsulation in membrane-coated protein-polysaccharide gel beads could be used to increase the survival of healthy probiotic bacteria during their transit through the gastrointestinal tract. 相似文献

Infrared spectra (0.003 cm(-1) resolution) of 16O16O18O and 16O18O18O ozone isotopologues have been recorded and analyzed in the range 600-5000 cm(-1). Several thousand rovibrational lines belonging to 32 absorption bands have been measured and assigned. An accurate determination of band centers through the rovibrational analysis has been done, 12 bands being observed for the first time to our knowledge. In addition to atmospheric retrieval applications, these results are also useful for a validation of potential energy surfaces and for the study of isotope effects in dynamic processes of ozone. 相似文献

This paper presents experimental data for penetration of nanoparticles in the 4–30 nm size range through fibreglass filters perforated with defined pinholes at 5 and 15 cm/s. Results show that, when the filter is damaged, penetration increases with decreasing particle diameter. This lower performance is more significant for filters with high airflow resistance. A model explaining the experimental data has been designed based on balanced, laminar airflow inside the pinhole; these conditions were confirmed by detailed study. The sensitivity of criteria in detecting unsafe food was studied for a hypothetical ready-to-eat food supporting growth of Listeria monocytogenes during storage. The effects of the prevalence of the pathogen and of the duration of the shelf-life on the probability for servings to be unsafe and on the probabilities of detecting unsafe food were evaluated. The results obtained in this example show that the probability for servings to be unsafe increases with the prevalence and the shelf-life while the probabilities of detecting unsafe food depend above all on the prevalence of the pathogen. The current criteria used for L. monocytogenes can then sometimes be relatively ineffective to prevent the consumption of unsafe food with regard to the shelf-life of foods. The exposure assessment approach described in this study could be used to establish shelf-lives consistent with a defined acceptable risk. 相似文献

Jumping is used in nature by many small animals to locomote in cluttered environments or in rough terrain. It offers small
systems the benefit of overcoming relatively large obstacles at a low energetic cost. In order to be able to perform repetitive
jumps in a given direction, it is important to be able to upright after landing, steer and jump again. In this article, we
review and evaluate the uprighting and steering principles of existing jumping robots and present a novel spherical robot
with a mass of 14 g and a size of 18 cm that can jump up to 62 cm at a take-off angle of 75°, recover passively after landing,
orient itself, and jump again. We describe its design details and fabrication methods, characterize its jumping performance,
and demonstrate the remote controlled prototype repetitively moving over an obstacle course where it has to climb stairs and
