Two new methods for preparing submicrometer powders of M2(WO4)3, M = Sc, In, and Al via combustion synthesis are reported. Stoichiometric combinations of trivalent metal nitrates, ammonium metatungstate, and either urea or carbohydrazide as the fuel were reacted at 550°C, producing amorphous or poorly crystallized powders with an average particle size ranging from 164 to 350 nm. Calcining the powders at 800°C for 1 h produced well‐crystallized, phase‐pure powders with an average particle size ranging from 210 to 711 nm. Powders sintered at 1000°C for 14 h resulted in pellets that were 87%–95% of the theoretical density, which is notably higher than typically obtained from powders prepared by solid‐state reaction. Whereas there was little difference in the microstructure of Al2(WO4)3 pellets prepared with the two different powders, the carbohydrazide‐derived powders resulted in In2(WO4)3 and Sc2(WO4)3 pellets with a larger grain size than those prepared with urea‐derived powders. The electrical conductivity of the sintered pellets, while comparable to that reported for polycrystalline M2(WO4)3 prepared by solid‐state reaction, was strongly influenced by grain‐boundary effects. 相似文献

The use of surface‐based methods for the delivery of therapeutics has recently generated increasing interest. These platforms have tremendous potential to minimize detrimental side effects associated with systemic delivery by localizing the therapeutic vehicle, and thus provide higher local doses for improved efficacy. Cationic lipids are one of the most commonly used synthetic carriers for the delivery of genetic cargo, such as DNA and RNA. However, reports on the use of lipid‐based films for gene delivery are scarce. Here we investigate the use of a lipid‐based film for the in vitro delivery of plasmid DNA. Solid DNA‐lipid films show very low levels of transfection, while identical complexes prepared for bolus delivery provide high levels of transfection when used directly. Aerosol formation and growth in aromatic hydrocarbon / NOx systems was studied in a series of outdoor smog chamber experiments. Analysis of the aerosol size distributions in those experiments that exhibited steady condensational growth provides estimates for the gas-phase partial pressures of the condensing species. Saturation ratios during these growth periods are estimated by comparing these partial pressures with vapor pressures obtained from an analysis of nucleation (Stern et al., 1987), and are found to be in the range of 5 to 20. Modeling of the size–distribution dynamics during the experiments is carried out using the sectional model ESMAP (Warren and Seinfeld, 1985). The full size-distribution model predicts more nucleation than an integral model (Stern et al., 1987), because the polydisperse aerosol representation leads to a lower condensation rate than that predicted for a monodisperse aerosol. 相似文献

A method is described for the purification and extraction of diatom samples for isotope and geochemical analysis. The technique involves a micro-manipulator attached to an inverted microscope with a cellular micro-injector system used to remove contaminants or separate assemblages into single-species samples. Whilst time consuming, the advances associated with this technique, eliminating issues related to contamination and the impact of species-dependent fractionation factor/isotopic effect, allows ultra-clean as well as species and/or size specific diatom samples to be analysed in palaeoenvironmental research down to seasonal timescale resolution. By further altering the inner dimensions of the commercially available capillary tubes, (3.5–150 $\upmu $ m) this technique can be extended for use with other microfossils including radiolaria (30 $\upmu $ m to 1 mm), pollen (6–100 $\upmu $ m) and phytolith samples (1–200 $\upmu $ m). 相似文献

Porous metals are of interest for their high surface area and potential for enhanced catalytic behavior. Electrodeposited NiCu thin films with a range of compositions were electrochemically dealloyed to selectively remove the Cu component. The film structure, composition, and reactivity of these samples were characterized both before and after the dealloying step using scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and electrochemical measurements. The catalytic behavior of the dealloyed porous Ni samples towards the hydrogen evolution reaction was measured and compared to that of the as-deposited samples. The dealloyed samples were generally more reactive than their as-deposited counterparts at low overpotentials, making the dealloying procedure a promising area of exploration for improved hydrogen evolution catalysts. 相似文献

Lipids in infant formulas are designed to mimic the composition of human milk and/or approximate the performance of the breastfed infant. Human milk lipids exhibit a complex, highly variable nature, varying by population, dietary intake, time of day, length of feeding and others. Continued understanding and characterization of human milk lipids has led to infant formula innovations aimed at a better comparison to human milk and/or improved dietary lipid utilization in the formula‐fed infant. The underlying aim of such innovation is the generation of outcomes as comparable to human milk feeding as possible. The present paper briefly reviews the current understanding of human milk lipid composition, with a focus on how this knowledge drives current and future innovations in the area of infant formula lipids. 相似文献

The two erythropoietin (EPO) receptor forms mediate different cellular responses to erythropoietin. While hematopoiesis is mediated via the homodimeric EPO receptor (EPOR), tissue protection is conferred via a heteromer composed of EPOR and CD131. In the skeletal system, EPO stimulates osteoclast precursors and induces bone loss. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are still elusive. Here, we evaluated the role of the heteromeric complex in bone metabolism in vivo and in vitro by using Cibinetide (CIB), a non-erythropoietic EPO analogue that exclusively binds the heteromeric receptor. CIB is administered either alone or in combination with EPO. One month of CIB treatment significantly increased the cortical (~5.8%) and trabecular (~5.2%) bone mineral density in C57BL/6J WT female mice. Similarly, administration of CIB for five consecutive days to female mice that concurrently received EPO on days one and four, reduced the number of osteoclast progenitors, defined by flow cytometry as Lin−CD11b−Ly6Chi CD115+, by 42.8% compared to treatment with EPO alone. In addition, CIB alone or in combination with EPO inhibited osteoclastogenesis in vitro. Our findings introduce CIB either as a stand-alone treatment, or in combination with EPO, as an appealing candidate for the treatment of the bone loss that accompanies EPO treatment. 相似文献

Methane steam reforming is the most common industrial process used for almost the 50% of the world’s hydrogen production. Commonly, this reaction is performed in fixed bed reactors and several stages are needed for separating hydrogen with the desired purity. The membrane reactors represent a valid alternative to the fixed bed reactors, by combining the reforming reaction for producing hydrogen and its separation in only one stage.
