The present study is concerned with the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) simulation of turbulent dispersion of immiscible liquids, namely, water–silicone oil and water–benzene through Kenics static mixers using the Eulerian–Eulerian and Eulerian–Lagrangian approaches of the ANSYS Fluent 16.0 software. To study the droplet size distribution(DSD), the Eulerian formulation incorporating a population balance model(PBM) was employed. For the Eulerian–Lagrangian approach, a discrete phase model(DPM) in conjunction with the Eulerian approach for continuous phase simulation was used to predict the residence time distribution(RTD) of droplets.In both approaches, a shear stress transport(SST) k-ω turbulence model was used. For validation purposes, the simulated results were compared with the experimental data and theoretical values for the Fanning friction factor, Sauter mean diameter and the mean residence time. The reliability of the computational model was further assessed by comparing the results with the available empirical correlations for Fanning friction factor and Sauter mean diameter. In addition, the influence of important geometrical and operational parameters, including the number of mixing elements and Weber number, was studied. It was found that the proposed models are capable of predicting the performance of the Kenics static mixer reasonably well.  相似文献

Power to gas is an attractive option for storing excess energy from fluctuating renewable energy sources. In recent years, the concept has gained great interest. An essential part of the process chain of power to gas is the methanation of CO2. Within this work the catalytic methanation of pure CO2 and of biogas is modeled in a three‐dimensional polytropic pseudo‐homogeneous flow tube and numerically simulated at different loads. The results represent axial and radial quantitative information about the reaction behavior under the different boundary conditions.  相似文献

Tree nuts are rich in macro and micronutrients, phytochemicals, tocopherols and phenolic compounds. The development of nut spreads would potentially increase the food uses of nuts and introduce consumers with a healthier, non-animal breakfast snack food. Nut spreads are spreadable products made from nuts that are ground into paste. Roasting and milling (particle size reduction) are two important stages for the production of nut spreads that affected the textural, rheological characteristic and overall quality of the nut spread. Textural, color, and flavor properties of nut spreads play a major role in consumer appeal, buying decisions and eventual consumption. Stability of nut spreads is influenced by its particle size. Proper combination of ingredients (nut paste, sweetener, vegetable oil and protein sources) is also required to ensure a stable nut spread product is produced. Most of the nut spreads behaved like a non-Newtonian pseudo-plastic fluid under yield stress which help the producers how to start pumping and stirring of the nut spreads. Similar to other high oil content products, nut spreads are susceptible to autoxidation. Their oxidation can be controlled by application of antioxidants, using processing techniques that minimize tocopherol and other natural antioxidant losses.  相似文献

Effects of the particle-particle heat transfer in a gas-solid turbulent flow in a riser were evaluated. An Eulerian/Lagrangian four-way interaction formulation including the particle collisions in conjunction with the k − τ and the kθ − τθ model equations were used in the numerical simulation. Inter-particles and particle-wall interactions were accounted for with an inelastic collision model, where the restitution coefficient was evaluated for each collision. The special case when the flow initially contains two groups of hot and cold particles was treated in details. Particular attention was given to the nature of heat transfer to particles due to inter-particle interactions. The results showed that the effect of particle-particle heat transfer was more significant for smaller sizes, lower flow Reynolds numbers, and for higher loading ratios. Solid thermal properties, however, did not have a noticeable effect on the inter-particle heat transfer. The simulation results indicates that although the heat transferred to each group of hot and cold particles was significant, the mean values of gas and particle temperatures and suspension heat transfer was insensitive to the inter-particle heat transfer.  相似文献

Vinyl ester/clay nanocomposites with 1, 3, and 5% nanoclay contents were prepared. X‐ray diffractography patterns and Scanning Electron micrographs showed that nanocomposites with the exfoliated structure were formed. Thermogravimetric analysis, water absorption test, and Tafel polarization method, respectively, revealed the improvements in thermal resistance, water barrier properties, and corrosion resistance properties of the samples with an increase in the amount of the incorporated nanoclay. Tensile tests showed that nanoclay also enhanced the mechanical properties of the polymer, so that the tensile strength of the samples with 5% nanoclay was more than 3 times higher than tensile strength of pure vinyl ester samples. Overall, the best properties were observed for the samples containing 5% nanoclay. Pure vinyl ester and nanocomposite with 5% nanoclay content were exposed to the electron beam radiation and their mechanical properties improved up to 500 kGy irradiation dose. Finally, pure vinyl ester and vinyl ester/nanoclay (5%) matrixes were reinforced with carbon fiber and the effect of electron beam irradiation on their mechanical properties was examined. The tensile strength and the modulus of the samples initially increased after exposure to the radiation doses up to 500 kGy and then a decrease was observed as the irradiation dose rose to 1000 kGy. A sizing formulation, containing compatible and incompatible silane coupling agents with epoxy resin in conjunction with nanoscale colloidal silica, was used to modify the surface of glass fabric. The modified glass fabric/epoxy resin composite panels were fabricated and characterised by flexural test, Charpy impact test and scanning electron microscope (SEM). By combining nano silica with silane blend in the fabric sizing, more energy was consumed under bending and impacting, which resulted in an improvement of the toughness in composites. The flexural strength, bending stain and Charpy impact strength of the epoxy composite/glass fabric treated with 1?wt-% nano silica and silane blend were ~42, ~22 and 35%, respectively, higher than those of silane blend coated glass fabric-reinforced composites (without nano silica). Furthermore, the change of the brittle fracture of the composite into ductile fracture was investigated by SEM micrographs. A possible toughening mechanism was also proposed.  相似文献

An experimental study on the onset of nucleate boiling (ONB) is performed for water annular flow to provide a systematic database for low pressure and velocity conditions. A parametric study has been conducted to investigate the effect of pressure, inlet subcooling, heat and mass flux on flow boiling. The test section includes a Pyrex tube with 21 mm inner diameter and a stainless steel (SS-304) rod with outer diameter of 6 mm. Pressure, heat and mass flux are in the range of 1.73 < P < 3.82 bar, 40 < q < 450 kW/m2 and 70 < G < 620 kg/m2 s, respectively. The results illustrate that inception heat flux is extremely dependent on pressure, inlet subcooling temperature and mass flux; for example in pressure, velocity and inlet subcooling as 3.27 bar, 230 kg/m2 s and 41.3 °C; consequently qw,ONB is 177.3 kW/m2. In other case with higher inlet temperature of 71.5 °C and with P, 3.13 bar and G, 232 kg/m2 s the inception heat flux reached to 101.6 kW/m2. The data of ONB heat flux are over estimated from the existing correlation, and maximum deviation of wall superheat (ΔTw,ONB) from correlations is 30%. Experimental data of inception heat flux are within 22% of that predicted from the correlation.  相似文献

The sugar composition and viscoelastic behaviour of Iranian gum tragacanth exuded by six species of Astragalus was investigated at a concentration of 1.3% and varying ionic strength using a controlled shear-rate rheometer. Compositional analysis of the six species of gum tragacanth by high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection suggested the occurrence of arabinose, xylose, glucose, galactose, fucose, rhamnose and galacturonic acid residues in the gum structure; however, the proportions of each sugar varied significantly among the gums from the different species of Astragalus, and this variation led to interesting differences in functional properties. Rheological measurements performed on dispersions of the six species of gum tragacanth demonstrated viscoelastic properties. The mechanical spectra derived from strain sweep and frequency sweep measurements indicated that the different gum tragacanth dispersions had distinctive viscoelastic behaviours. Investigation of the viscoelastic properties of the different gum dispersions in the presence of NaCl revealed that the addition of NaCl could lead to slight to drastic decreases in the G′, G″ or η values of the various gums. In general, the results indicated that the six varieties of gum tragacanth studied exhibited significantly different rheological properties; therefore, these different gums may find use in a variety of applications as stabilisers, thickeners, emulsifiers and suspending agents depending on their rheological behaviour.  相似文献
