Bacteria, mitochondria, and chloroplasts contain the highly conserved elongation factor EF4; they have in common that the intracellular ionic strength can change dramatically, in contrast to that of archaea and eukaryotic cytoplasm, where EF4 is absent. This factor has the unique function of back-translocating ribosomes, viz., it exerts the opposite function as EF-G. Under unfavorable growth conditions which increase the intracellular ionic strength, such as high salts, low pH, or low temperature, wild-type cells effectively overgrow strains lacking the EF4 gene lepA. Under these conditions most of EF4 is present in the cytoplasm, and only small amounts in the membrane fraction; the opposite is true under optimal conditions, indicating that the membrane is a storage organ for EF4. This factor tunes bacteria for fitness at high ionic strength by (i) improving the active fraction by reactivating unscheduled stalled ribosomes, and (ii) increasing significantly the rate of protein synthesis.  相似文献

We report results from a lean burn ultra-low emission catalytic combustor. In a sub-scale rig, atmospheric testing with methane demonstrated NOx<3, CO<5, and UHC<1 ppm, with stable combustion at inlet temperatures of 400–500°C (750–1020°F) and combustor discharge temperatures of 1150–1540°C (2100–2800°F). Catalyst temperatures were held well below metal substrate material limits, while combustor discharge temperatures of up to 1540°C (2800°F) were achieved.  相似文献

A novel approach for design of experiments (DOE) is outlined that combines high throughput multiscale modeling, sensitivity analysis, and information extraction from massive computational data using informatics tools. This approach is implemented by conducting experiments of ammonia decomposition on a Ru/γ-Al2O3 catalyst in a fixed bed reactor. It is shown that a relatively small number of experiments chosen from this new DOE approach can enable refinement of microkinetic models and render them predictive over the (large) experimentally important parameter space. Microkinetic models are subsequently used for process and product design. Specifically, a membrane fixed bed reactor is simulated and is shown to outperform the conventional fixed bed reactor at intermediate temperatures for hydrogen production. Also, the attributes of the best catalyst for ammonia decomposition are identified as a function of processing conditions. It is shown that for NH3 decomposition, processing conditions do not significantly affect the best catalyst choice. In contrast, fundamental physicochemical phenomena, such as adsorbate–adsorbate interactions, can have a profound effect on catalyst discovery.  相似文献

The thermal pressure coefficients of a neat, unfilled, epoxy resin and a 10 wt % POSS (polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane)‐filled epoxy nanocomposite have been measured using a thick‐walled tube method. It is found that just below the glass transition temperature the thermal pressure coefficient is ~ 20% smaller for the polymer composite containing 10% POSS than for the neat, unfilled resin. A differential pulse polarography (DPP) for the simultaneous determination of isoniazid and rifampicin was proposed. Under optimum experimental conditions (pH = 7, scan rate = 10 mV/s, pulse amplitude = −50 mV), serious overlapping polarographic peaks were observed in the mixture of these compounds. In this study, support vector regression (SVR) was applied to modeling the overlapped polarograms. Furthermore, a comparison was made between the performance of SVR and partial least square (PLS) on data set. The experimental calibration matrix was designed with 30 mixtures of these compounds. Calibration graphs were linear in the range of 6 × 10−8-10−4 and 10−7-10−4 M for isoniazid and rifampicin, respectively. The results demonstrated that SVR is a good well-performing alternative for the analysis and modeling of DPP data than the commonly applied PLS technique.  相似文献

Palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD) is a rich source of vitamin E. As compared to other vegetable oil, PFAD has higher tocotrienol (70–80%) over tocopherol content, which makes it a valuable source for vitamin E extraction. Current vitamin E extraction methods are not sustainable due to the intensive usage of chemical and high operational cost. Hence, the present study investigated for the first time using dry fractionation process as a green and economical pretreatment method for separating solid fraction (stearin) and liquid fraction (olein) in order to concentrate vitamin E from PFAD in olein fraction. We examined the dry fractionation conditions: crystallization ending temperature (36–44 °C), cooling rate (0.3 and 1.5°C min−1), stirring speed (20–125 rpm), and holding time (0–60 min) on the composition of unsaturated and saturated fatty acids as well as vitamin E content in liquid fraction (olein) and solid fraction (stearin) using gas chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography, respectively. In most of these conditions, vitamin E was ultimately higher in olein fraction as compared to stearin fraction, which is correlated with the high degree of unsaturation. Under a cooling rate of 0.3°C min−1, 90 rpm stirring speed, and ending crystallization of 38 °C, the highest vitamin E rich olein fraction was attained with 1479 ± 10.51 ppm in 50 g olein fraction as compared to 1366 ± 7.94 ppm in 500 g of unfractionated PFAD.  相似文献

In this work, the effect of low volatile hydroxyethylhydrazine (HEH) as a solute on unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) has been studied in order to reduce harmful effects of UDMH vapors. Desirable physical properties of binary mixtures UDMH/HEH have been measured and compared to pure UDMH. These properties include boiling point, viscosity, density, and vapor pressure that are important for using binary mixtures of UDMH/HEH as less dangerous liquid propellants. Due to the formation of strong hydrogen bonding between UDMH and HEH, the volatility of UDMH has been reduced appreciably upon the addition of HEH. It is indicated that the measured physical properties may deviate significantly compared to corresponding predicted values. Binary mixtures of UDMH/HEH can also react spontaneously in contact with nitrogen tetroxide (NTO) and red fuming nitric acid (RFNA), so they can be called hypergolic propellants.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A laboratory coking unit was designed and constructed for an experimental study of the delayed coking process of hydrotreated Kirkuk reduced crude. The yield and analysis of coke, gases and liquid products were obtained for each experiment. The gas < C4. and gasoline yield decrease by increasing Liquid hourly space velocity (LHSV) while the yields of kerosene and gas oil increase and no effect of LHSV on petroleum coke yield was observed, The specific gravity of gasoline, kerosene and gas oil decreases by increasing LHSV. The increase in LHSV (decrease in residence time) decreases the olefinic hydrocarbons of produced gas oil and fraction 350-450°C. Sulfur content of produced coke and coking residue increases by increasing residence time while it changes slightly for kerosene and gas oil. By increasing the recycle ratio (RR), the yield of gas decreases while the coke yield increases. Sulfur content of gas oil and coking residue increases with an increase in the recycle ratio while it decreases for coke. Metals content of coke decreases with an increase in the recycle ratio and coke with accepted properties for aluminum anode manufacture could be produced when a recycle ratio of 1.4 was used.  相似文献

Abstract: The direct consumption of vegetable proteins in food products has been increasing over the years because of animal diseases, global shortage of animal protein, strong demand for wholesome and religious (halal) food, and economic reasons. The increasing importance of legume and oilseed proteins in the manufacturing of various functional food products is due to their high‐protein contents. However, the greatest obstacle to utilizing these legumes and oilseeds is the presence of antinutrients; but these antinutrients can be successfully removed or inactivated by employing certain processing methods. In contrast, the potential negative impact of the antinutrients is partially balanced by the fact that they may have a health‐promoting role. Legumes and oilseeds provide well‐balanced amino acid profiles when consumed with cereals. Soybean proteins, wheat gluten, cottonseed proteins, and other plant proteins have been used for texturization. Texturized vegetable proteins can extend meat products while providing an economical, functional, and high‐protein food ingredient or can be consumed directly as a meat analog. Meat analogs are successful because of their healthy image (cholesterol free), meat‐like texture, and low cost. Mycoprotein is fungal in origin and is used as a high‐protein, low‐fat, health‐promoting food ingredient. Mycoprotein has a good taste and texture. Texturized vegetable proteins and a number of mycoprotein products are accepted as halal foods. This article summarizes information regarding the molecular, nutritional, and functional properties of alternative protein sources to meat and presents current knowledge to encourage further research to optimize the beneficial effects of alternative protein sources.  相似文献
