Communication networks, whether they are wired or wireless, have traditionally been assumed to be connected at least most
of the time. However, emerging applications such as emergency response, special operations, smart environments, VANETs, etc.
coupled with node heterogeneity and volatile links (e.g. due to wireless propagation phenomena and node mobility) will likely
change the typical conditions under which networks operate. In fact, in such scenarios, networks may be mostly disconnected,
i.e., most of the time, end-to-end paths connecting every node pair do not exist. To cope with frequent, long-lived disconnections,
opportunistic routing techniques have been proposed in which, at every hop, a node decides whether it should forward or store-and-carry a message.
Despite a growing number of such proposals, there still exists little consensus on the most suitable routing algorithm(s)
in this context. One of the reasons is the large diversity of emerging wireless applications and networks exhibiting such
“episodic” connectivity. These networks often have very different characteristics and requirements, making it very difficult,
if not impossible, to design a routing solution that fits all. In this paper, we first break up existing routing strategies
into a small number of common and tunable routing modules (e.g. message replication, coding, etc.), and then show how and when a given routing module should be used, depending on the set of network characteristics exhibited by the wireless application. We further attempt to create a taxonomy for intermittently connected networks. We
try to identify generic network characteristics that are relevant to the routing process (e.g., network density, node heterogeneity, mobility patterns) and dissect different
“challenged” wireless networks or applications based on these characteristics. Our goal is to identify a set of useful design guidelines that will enable one to choose an appropriate routing protocol for the application or network in hand. Finally, to demonstrate
the utility of our approach, we take up some case studies of challenged wireless networks, and validate some of our routing
design principles using simulations. 相似文献
In recent years, the within-host viral dynamics of dengue infections have been increasingly characterized, and the relationship between aspects of these dynamics and the manifestation of severe disease has been increasingly probed. Despite this progress, there are few mathematical models of within-host dengue dynamics, and the ones that exist focus primarily on the general role of immune cells in the clearance of infected cells, while neglecting other components of the immune response in limiting viraemia. Here, by considering a suite of mathematical within-host dengue models of increasing complexity, we aim to isolate the critical components of the innate and the adaptive immune response that suffice in the reproduction of several well-characterized features of primary and secondary dengue infections. By building up from a simple target cell limited model, we show that only the innate immune response is needed to recover the characteristic features of a primary symptomatic dengue infection, while a higher rate of viral infectivity (indicative of antibody-dependent enhancement) and infected cell clearance by T cells are further needed to recover the characteristic features of a secondary dengue infection. We show that these minimal models can reproduce the increased risk of disease associated with secondary heterologous infections that arises as a result of a cytokine storm, and, further, that they are consistent with virological indicators that predict the onset of severe disease, such as the magnitude of peak viraemia, time to peak viral load, and viral clearance rate. Finally, we show that the effectiveness of these virological indicators to predict the onset of severe disease depends on the contribution of T cells in fuelling the cytokine storm. 相似文献
Recent dual-process models of decision making have suggested that emotion plays an important role in decision making; however, the impact of incidental moods (i.e., emotions unrelated to the immediate situation) on decisions remains poorly explored. This question was investigated by inducing 2 basic emotional states (amusement or sadness) that were compared with a neutral-emotion control group. Decision making was assessed with a well-studied social task, the Ultimatum Game. In this task, participants had to make decisions to either accept or reject monetary offers from other players, offers that varied in their degree of unfairness. Emotion was induced with short movie clips. Induced sadness interacted with offer fairness, with higher sadness resulting in lower acceptance rates of unfair offers. Induced amusement was not associated with any significant biases in decision making. These results demonstrate that even subtle incidental moods can play an important role in biasing decision making. Implications of these results in regards to the emotion, cognitive neuroscience, and clinical literatures are discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) 相似文献
The new Brazilian Electric Sector Regulation of 2004 introduced two negotiation markets: the regulated pool and the free market. Competition in the pool is enforced via energy auctions, where the winning generator has to sign long-term power purchase agreements simultaneously with all distributors at the bidding-price.
To estimate the appropriate credit risk spread of the pool, we implement a clustering methodology to rank and rate the distributors. The results show an average spread between 5.75% and 8.5%, which corresponds to a credit rating of B− according to the spreads available in Reuters 2004. This estimation is at least 208 basis points higher than the credit rating Ba1/BB+ assigned to the distributors by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) in the periodic tariff revisions. Distributors with higher risk/spread are located in the South–Southeast, compared to the low risk/spread ones concentrated in the North–Northeast.
We estimate the opportunity cost of capital in real terms in the range of 13–16% to account for the credit risk of the pool. Essential to determine the bidding price at the auctions, this estimation is higher than the 11.26% opportunity cost estimated by ANEEL. The pool's credit risk has to be taken into consideration, especially for compensating new private capital investments in Brazilian power generation. 相似文献
Synthetic saponite containing Ni2+ as octahedral cations has been prepared by a simple hydrothermal procedure, and has been intercalated with Al13-polycations. The catalytic performance of the pillared solids in the epoxidation of (Z)-cyclooctene and the oxidation of cyclohexanone in the presence of benzonitrile, Baeyer–Villiger reaction, using hydrogen peroxide (70%) as a clean oxidant have been studied. For comparison, Mg-saponite was synthesized under the same conditions and tested for the same reaction. 相似文献
Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) represents a paradigm of precision medicine. Indeed, in the last decades, the introduction of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and arsenic trioxide (ATO) completely revolutionized the therapeutic approach to this previously highly fatal disorder. This entirely chemotherapy-free treatment, which provided excellent survival rates, has been initially validated in adults and, recently, translated in the pediatric setting. This review summarizes currently available data on the use of ATRA and ATO combination in pediatric APL, providing a particular focus on peculiar issues and challenges, such as the occurrence of pseudotumor cerebri and death during induction (early death), as well as the advantage offered by the ATO/ATRA combination in sparing long-term sequelae. 相似文献
