The influence of exercise intensity on sweating efficiency of the whole body in a mild thermal condition

The photodegradation of seven carbamate pesticides (bendiocarb, isoprocarb, promecarb, ethiofencarb, furathiocarb, fenoxycarb and pirimicarb), in aqueous solution, has been examined by GC-MS. The most general result was formation of the corresponding phenols. Irradiation of isoprocarb and promecarb also resulted in photo-Fries rearrangement to ortho- and para-hydroxybenzamides. In the case of ethiofencarb photocleavage of the carbon-sulfur bond gave 2-methylphenyl methylcarbamate as main product. Likewise, N-S bond cleavage occurred upon irradiation of furathiocarb, to allow the formation of the carbamate insecticide carbofuran, butyl methylcarbamate and carbofuranphenol. Under similar conditions, fenoxycarb gave p-phenylphenol and 2-hydroxydibenzofuran, through primary homolysis of the aryloxy-methylene bond. Finally, pirimicarb gave rise to 2-formylamino-5,6-dimethylpyrimidin-4-yl dimethylcarbamate.     

Estrogen alleviates cognitive dysfunction following transient brain ischemia in ovariectomized gerbils

Acute hepatic failure models with extensive hepatic necrosis and hyperammonemia were developed in small animals. One model is bases on the retrograde infusion of ethanolamine oleate into the common bile duct of guinea pigs and another is based on the infusion of TNF-lipiodol emulsion into the portal tract of rats.     

Identification of K1/K10 and K5/K14 keratin pairs in human melanoma cell lines

Keratin expression in cultured malignant melanoma cells has been studied only rarely. Moreover, no studies have reported of universality of keratin expression in human malignant melanoma cells. In this study, therefore, we analyzed keratin expression in eight cell lines. Using a low-salt aqueous solution without high salt and Triton X-100, as a washing buffer for keratin extraction, followed by two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2D-PAGE) and immunological analysis, we demonstrated keratin expression in all eight human malignant melanoma cell lines. The keratin polypeptide expressions common to all melanoma cells were K1, K5, K10 and K14. In addition, K8, K13, K17 and K18, respectively, were detected in individual cells. A measure of keratin expression universality in malignant melanoma cells may have implications regarding their invasive and metastatic behaviors, co-expressed with vimentin.     

Temporal dynamics and drivers of lake ecosystem metabolism using high resolution observations in a shallow,tropical, eutrophic lake (Laguna Lake,Philippines)

The physical, chemical, and biological dynamics under changing atmospheric conditions of Laguna Lake, Philippines were analyzed from intensive observations. Diel measurements were conducted for 48 continuous hours for both dry and wet tropical seasons in addition to fine resolution long-term monitoring. Results revealed significant vertical and diel variations of lake variables in spite of a shallow water depth (2.5 m) caused by the intense surface heating from solar irradiance (~800 W m^?2) and accentuated by the lake's high turbidity (16–32 ftu). Late afternoon land-lake breeze (~5–7 m s^?1) regularly breaks daytime thermal stratification, and convective cooling at night maintains isothermal condition until dawn of the next day. The stratified condition demonstrated a wind-driven, density-induced 2-layer current pattern with a windward moving epilimnion (~4 folds faster) and a compensating hypolimnetic flow in the general lake circulation direction. Laguna Lake was observed to have a dominating diel cycle but also undergoes significant seasonal limnological variations brought primarily by climate, hydrology, and its interaction with the adjacent sea. Significantly correlated variations of pH, chlorophyll-a and DO in the dry season were indicative of the higher biological activity associated with the intrusion of polluted waters from Metro Manila. The non-occurrence of thermal over-turn was observed to be regularly followed by bottom hypoxic conditions (2–4 mg L^?1), indicative of the eutrophic condition of the lake and the importance of diel wind-induced mixing in the bottom supply of DO. Laguna Lake was found to be predominantly net heterotrophic (GPP:R < 1, NEP < 0).     

Cognitive model of team cooperation in en-route air traffic control

Since controller teams are in charge of en-route air traffic control, team cooperation is a key issue for good control performance. We conducted ethnographic field observation at the Tokyo Area Control Center and then analyzed the obtained data to develop a cognitive model of team cooperation in en-route air traffic control. We segmented conversational records, behavioral records, and so on by control unit, and then clarified relations between the segments and identified expert knowledge and judgment behind them. Cognitive processes of controller teams were reconstructed based on a concept of distributed cognition. The analysis revealed that the mutual belief model is applicable to team cooperation processes, the role assignment of tasks within a controller team is implicit and that control plans are implemented smoothly once team situation awareness has been established. A cognitive model of controllers?? team cooperation has been constructed based on these findings.     

Properties of Va metal-B films prepared by r.f.-sputtering

Ta_100-x B _x alloy films were prepared by r.f.-sputtering in the chemical composition range 45 x 77. Ta_100-x B _x (45 x 58) films consist of the amorphous phase, while the TaB₂ crystal phase was observed in Ta_100-x B _x (66 x 77) films. A remarkable preferred orientation with the (001) plane of TaB₂ parallel to the film surface was observed in Ta₃₄B₆₆. The d.c. electrical conductivity of Ta_100-x B _x (45 x 77) films decreases with increasing boron content in the range 6.7 × 10³ to 1.3 × 10^3–1 cm^–1. The micro-Vickers hardness of Ta_100-x B _x (45 x 77) films was in the range 2200 to 2600 kg mm^–2.     

MiR-10a in Pancreatic Juice as a Biomarker for Invasive Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm by miRNA Sequencing

New biomarkers are needed to further stratify the risk of malignancy in intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN). Although microRNAs (miRNAs) are expected to be stable biomarkers, they can vary owing to a lack of definite internal controls. To identify universal biomarkers for invasive IPMN, we performed miRNA sequencing using tumor-normal paired samples. A total of 19 resected tissues and 13 pancreatic juice samples from 32 IPMN patients were analyzed for miRNA expression by next-generation sequencing with a two-step normalization of miRNA sequence data. The miRNAs involved in IPMN associated with invasive carcinoma were identified from this tissue analysis and further verified with the pancreatic juice samples. From the tumor-normal paired tissue analysis of the expression levels of 2792 miRNAs, 20 upregulated and 17 downregulated miRNAs were identified. In IPMN associated with invasive carcinoma (INV), miR-10a-5p and miR-221-3p were upregulated and miR-148a-3p was downregulated when compared with noninvasive IPMN. When these findings were further validated with pancreatic juice samples, miR-10a-5p was found to be elevated in INV (p = 0.002). Therefore, three differentially expressed miRNAs were identified in tissues with INV, and the expression of miR-10a-5p was also elevated in pancreatic juice samples with INV. MiR-10a-5p is a promising additional biomarker for invasive IPMN.     

A new method of automatic polishing on curved aluminium alloy surfaces at constant pressure

This paper presents original research results of automatic polishing on curved surfaces of aluminium alloy moulds at constant pressure. The automatic polishing of aluminium alloy material is achieved. A parameter S is defined, which can express the comprehensive influential factors in the automatic polishing process and give a relationship among the polishing quality and the various machining variables. Based on this, a new method for comprehensive control of polishing quality is suggested.     

Residual Stress in Siliceous Glass Between Mullite Crystals

A birefringence of siliceous glass, which is coexisting with mullite crystals, was studied by an optical polarizing microscope. The cause of the birefringence was assumed to be the residual stress induced by a large contraction difference between the mullite and glass on cooling. The stress has been evaluated to be as high as—0.3 GPa, and to correspond to the elastic one which began to develop at the glass transition point.
