The oxidative cleavage of the C? C-bond converts unsaturated fatty acids to carboxylic and dicarboxylic acids. The only method currently used in oleochemistry is ozonolysis. The high energy consumption of ozonolysis makes a transition-metal catalyzed alternative with a cheaper secondary oxidant attractive. Here we report new methods for ruthenium-, rhenium- and tungsten-catalyzed oxidations with peracetic acid and hydrogen peroxide. Whereas the direct oxidative cleavage of internal C? C-bonds still lacks selectivity, two-step reactions are feasible. The first possibility is to convert natural, internal unsaturated fatty acids to ω-unsaturated ones. These ω-unsaturated fatty acids can be cleaved by Ru/acac)3/CH3COOOH or Re2O7/H2O2 with yields up to 80 %. In the second two-step procedure the fatty acid first is hydroxylated and the diol is cleaved: the overall yield for this method is 80 %, too.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of HIV illness on psychiatric and psychosocial functioning over 3 years in a sample of male and female HIV-positive injecting drug users (IDU), with a comparison group of HIV-negative male and female IDU. DESIGN: As part of a multidisciplinary study, 121 men (69 HIV-positive, 52 HIV-negative) and 66 women (36 HIV-positive, 30 HIV-negative) were evaluated semiannually for seven visits. Attrition, unrelated to sex or serostatus, was 33%. RESULTS: At baseline, rates of major depression and dysthymia ranged from 15% (HIV-negative men) to 33% (HIV-positive men and HIV-negative women). Global impairment was in the range found in psychiatric patients (mean Global Assessment of Functioning scores, 46-51). Higher levels of social support and less social conflict were independently associated with decreased distress and improved global functioning among both men and women. For both HIV-positive groups, degree of improvement over time was related to degree to HIV progression: those who remained healthier in terms of CD4 count and illness stage showed more improvement. HIV-seronegative status was associated with less distress for men but not for women. Overall, women reported higher levels of psychiatric distress than men. CONCLUSIONS: High rates of psychopathology were found in this IDU cohort, independent of HIV status and sex. Although rates of psychopathology, injecting drug use and distress declined slightly during the study, they remained elevated; accordingly, psychiatric services are indicated for this population.  相似文献

The effect of changing the modulus and thickness of the material in the leaflets of an artificial heart valve has been investigated. This has been achieved with a finite element model of the valve having approximately 2300 thin shell elements. The valve motion and the resulting stresses are modelled dynamically during closure, and subsequent pressurisation. The stresses decrease as the leaflets are made thicker and the modulus is increased. Local and global thickening has been investigated. The highest stresses appear at the tops of the stent posts in the regions of the commissures. When the modulus is too low, or the leaflets are too thin, the valve prolapsed.  相似文献

Calpain is a ubiquitous calcium-dependent cysteine protease, whose cytoskeletal protein substrates suggest that it may be important in neuronal differentiation. Lead (Pb2+) is known to substitute for Ca2+ in a variety of intracellular processes, and interferes with the development of hippocampal neurons in vitro. We found that free Pb2+ at 1 nM does not activate calpain in the absence of Ca2+. Pb2+ inhibited the activity of calpain; the degree of calpain inhibition was dependent on an interaction between concentrations of both Ca2+ and Pb2+. In the presence of 1 microM free Ca2+, 10 pM free Pb2+ reduced calpain activity, but in the presence of 100 microM free Ca2+, 1 nM free Pb2+ failed to inhibit calpain. This provides evidence that Pb2+ competes for the Ca2+ binding sites on calpain. In the presence of 40 microM free Ca2+, 1 nM free Pb2+ significantly reduces Vmax without altering Km, suggesting that Pb2+ acts as a noncompetitive inhibitor of calpain. Inhibition of calpain is one mechanism by which Pb2+ may interfere with neuronal development.  相似文献

Abstract— A stress-dip technique for the determination of an effective stress in cyclic straining has been improved. The critical stress drop, ΔσC, for which zero strain relaxation rate is observed can be obtained from experiments. The significance of this quantity is discussed in terms of the statistical theory of the hysteresis loop. The measurements of the effective stress at different temperatures and along the hysteresis loop are reported. The observed asymmetry of stress in cyclic straining is ascribed to asymmetry of effective stress.  相似文献
