In highland Bolivia a three-year nutrition-sensitive agricultural intervention was carried out with rural families in which chicken rearing was promoted in order to increase egg consumption. Here we report on the impact of the intervention on participants’ diets. The non-randomized intervention took place in 21 rural communities in the province of Tapacarí in the department of Cochabamba, Bolivia. Intervention communities had staggered start times, with two communities starting in 2013, three communities starting in 2014 and sixteen communities starting in 2015. Twenty-four hour dietary recall data were collected from all individuals in 22 households in two communities in February/March 2013, 33 households in three communities in February/March 2014, and 66 households in fourteen communities in February/March 2015. We tested for changes from 2013 to 2014 to 2015 in consumption of 10 food groups in children under 6 years, adult men and adult women. By endline, egg production was established in ~80% of the intervention households. From baseline to endline egg consumption increased to approximately one-half egg/person/day: in children from 7 to 33 g/day, in women from 6 to 33 g/day, and in men from 6 to 39 g/day. Despite the increased intake in eggs, intake of most nutrients did not change. Higher egg consumption would be required to produce observable average increases in nutrient intake. 相似文献

In this work we propose the implementation of boolean logic through artificial neurons with Ferroelectric Capacitor (FeCapacitor) as its basic unit on a reconfigurable hardware platform. Two neurons were implemented: the Perceptron and the Spiking Neuron model. Both neurons use the phenomenon of the hysteresis loop as an activation function and were embedded on a Field Gate Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) hardware platform. The implementations were carried out by Simulink models and hardware synthesizable blocks from DSP Builder software and the results are shown in the form of the models and the boolean functions implemented by them. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate tubular dentin sealer penetration, comparing different final irrigation protocols using a conventional needle (CONV), EndoActivator system (EAS), EndoVac system (EVS), and ultrasound (PUI). Initially, fifty‐two first maxillary molars with a single canal in the palatal root, without abrupt curvatures, resorptive processes, or previous endodontic treatment were selected for this study. Then, the crowns were sectioned to obtain palatal roots 15 mm in length. The root canals were prepared with the ProTaper Universal System and irrigated with 5% NaOCl. Afterwards, the specimens were divided into four groups (n. 13), according to the final irrigation protocol: CONV, EAS, EVS, and PUI. After filling, slices at 3 mm and 5 mm from the apex were obtained for analysis by confocal laser scanning microscopy. Two‐way comparisons between the groups and the levels were performed with Games Howell's test (p < .05). Tubular dentin sealer penetration was higher at 5 mm compared with 3 mm from the apex (p < .05). The EAS group showed a higher percentage of tubular dentin sealer penetration, compared with the CONV group, at both levels. At 3 mm, there was no statistically significant difference among EAS, EVS, and PUI; however, these groups showed better performance, compared with the CONV group. At 5 mm, there was no statistically significant difference between the EAS and EVS groups, but both showed higher sealer penetration than the PUI group (p < .05). The EAS and EVS groups achieved better degrees of tubular dentin sealer penetration, compared with the other groups. 相似文献

In this work, a method for preparation of polyamide‐6 (PA6) based laminates reinforced by glass fiber‐ (GFL) or polyamide‐66 (PA66) textile structures (PL) via reactive injection molding is disclosed. It is based on in‐mold anionic polymerization of ε‐caprolactam carried out at 165°C in the presence of the respective reinforcements performed in newly developed prototype equipment whose design concept and operation are described. Both composite types were produced for reaction times of 20 min, with conversion degrees of 97–99%. Initial mechanical tests in tension of GFL samples displayed almost twofold increase of the Young's modulus and stress at break values when compared with the neat anionic PA6. The improvement was proportional to the volume fraction Vf of glass fiber fabric that was varied in the 0.16–0.25 range. A 300% growth of the impact strength was registered in PL composites with Vf of PA66 textile of 0.1. Removing the surface finish of the latter was found to be a factor for improving the adhesion at the matrix–fiber interface. The mechanical behavior of GFL and PL composites was discussed in conjunction with the morphology of the samples studied by optical and electron microscopy and the matrix crystalline structure as revealed by synchrotron X‐ray diffraction. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The present research exposes the influence of 2 mol% of Al2O3 and 2 mol% SrO in 45S5 Bioglass®-based compositions. Four compositions were produced to elucidate the difference in how both oxides influence structure and thermal behavior separately and their synergy when together. Thermal properties, crystallization tendency, and sintering behavior was evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry, hot stage microscopy, and dilatometry. Changes of medium-range structures were characterized by Qn distribution of Raman spectroscopy and evaluation of 31P, 27Al, 23Na, and 29Si environment obtained by magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance. Despite Qn distribution was predominantly Q2 in all samples, the composition criteria used enabled improved processing and stabilibity characteristics. The addition of Al2O3 and SrO promoted larger sinterability parameter (Sc) which indicates better sintering behavior, the glass stability against crystallization doubled (KH) compared to 45S5 and the processing window enlarged from 106 to 171. 相似文献

An electroanalytical method was developed to detect and quantify the sunscreen agent octocrylene (OCR) in cosmetic products. The method was based on electrochemical reduction, using voltammetric techniques. OCR was reduced at -0.97 V vs. Ag/AgCl on a glassy carbon electrode using a mixture of Britton-Robinson buffer (0.04 mol L(-1)) and ethanol (7 : 3, v/v) as the supporting electrolyte solution. Under optimized conditions and square-wave voltammetry, OCR response was linear from 5.0 × 10(-6) to 8.0 × 10(-5) mol L(-1) (r = 0.9995), with a limit of detection of 2.8 × 10(-6) mol L(-1). The proposed electroanalytical method proved simple, fast and suitable for detection and quantification of OCR in samples of cosmetic products, with satisfactory results in the recovery test and analytical determination in real samples. 相似文献

The activation of water by non-thermal plasma creates a liquid with active constituents referred to as plasma-activated water (PAW). Due to its active constituents, PAW may play an important role in different fields, such as agriculture, the food industry and healthcare. Plasma liquid technology has received attention in recent years due to its versatility and good potential, mainly focused on different health care purposes. This interest has extended to dentistry, since the use of a plasma–liquid technology could bring clinical advantages, compared to direct application of non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasmas (NTAPPs). The aim of this paper is to discuss the applicability of PAW in different areas of dentistry, according to the published literature about NTAPPs and plasma–liquid technology. The direct and indirect application of NTAPPs are presented in the introduction. Posteriorly, the main reactors for generating PAW and its active constituents with a role in biomedical applications are specified, followed by a section that discusses, in detail, the use of PAW as a tool for different oral diseases. 相似文献

Despite the recognized importance of the process, estimates of the amount of nitrogen fixed by biological symbiosis in tropical dry forests are almost nonexistent. We estimated the nitrogen fixed annually by the leaves of trees and shrubs at sites regenerating for 16 and 38?years and in an old-growth dry forest using 15N abundance methodology. The total leaf biomass (1,824?C3,036?kg?ha?1) and nitrogen contents (62?C90?kg?ha?1) did not differ among the areas. In all of the areas, most of the leaf biomass belonged to legume plants, but the proportion of the N2-fixing legumes decreased with increasing regeneration time. In the 16-year regenerating area, almost all of the N was in the leaves of the N-fixing Mimosa tenuiflora plants, but fixation was absent or very low as it was in the N-fixing species present in the 38-year regenerating area. In the old-growth Caatinga, all of the N-fixing species (M. tenuiflora, Piptadenia stipulacea and Anadenanthera colubrina) had large proportions (47?C62?%) of their N derived from atmospheric N2, but the amount of fixed N (6?kg?ha?1) was a small proportion of the total leaf N because these plant species were a small part of the vegetation. The total input of biologically fixed N to the old-growth forest was similar in magnitude to an estimate made for a humid tropical forest in Amazonia. 相似文献

The information on binding capacity of different fatty acids (FAs) to albumin is incomplete, however, in the majority of in vitro experiments, FAs and albumin were simply mixed and their affinity believed to be complete. In this study, seven [1‐14C] FAs were mixed with albumin and assayed for β‐oxidation in rat liver homogenates. In the process of identifying the radioactive background of control assay by LCMS/MS, the results indicated different binding capacity of FAs to albumin. The percentage of unbound FAs recovered in clarified acidic solution was lower than 2% with 16:0 and 18:1n‐9, nearly 5% with EPA, 7% with 18:2n‐6, 18:3n‐3 and 20:4n‐6, and surprisingly high to 41% with DHA. Various FA/albumin molar ratios as well as different types of albumin only marginally affected these data. Thus, the big mass of unbound free DHA led to a high blank value, which is 60 times higher than the real value in the procedure of β‐oxidation measurement in vitro. In the design of future FA research in vitro, the binding capacity of FA to albumin or other proteins must be considered, especially for DHA research. 相似文献

“Castelo Branco” cheese is a Portuguese DOP cheese made from raw ewe’s milk coagulated with Cynara cardunculus, ripened for at least 40 days. “Merino da Beira Baixa” pure race is frequently used to produce milk for this cheese, however, exotic races such as Assaf and crusade of these two races are also used. The aim of this work has been to compare the volatile profile and sensory characteristics of DOP “Castelo Branco” cheeses manufactured during winter season with milk of breeds from Merino, Assaf and crusade of these two races and identify volatile compounds that can distinguish these cheeses. 相似文献
